Battery from Seattle 89 is the one song to show why we all got addicted. Everything from that show is pretty much perfect, but it doesn’t get any better.
I've seen Metallica live more than any other band (and met them back in April of '86...yes, I'm that old) and they never disappoint. See them while you can.
James Hetfield is up there with the greatest front man in history music. It’s so crazy, Those of us who started listening in 80’s was a band for weirdos, today, they are the biggest rock band in the world. They and TOOL (who please god do a tool reaction) are the bands the world seemed to really acknowledge their greatness these days.
This was from 2009, so yes it was a 'modern performance'... the song 'Seek & destroy' was from their 1st album "Kill 'em all" in 1983, so intensity nowadays is not quite what it used to be for Metallica circa the 80's. But Metallica is still the most popular metal band in the world after 4 decades of career... Credit where credit is due...(And they never wear masks on stage... this was for that halloween show, I guess). Metallica worked their way up from the clubs in L.A. and San Francisco to the arenas of the world on their workload... They also had the songs and the attitude that endeared them to metal fans worldwide early on. Brief history: The core of the band has been the unlikely duo of James Hetfield (vocals & guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums)... the 2 met in 1981 in the L.A. scene and were different by far - James came from a broken home in California, raised by strict Christian parents and had endured abuse and loss after his father left home and then his mom died... Lars was the only son of a Danish tennis pro who immigrated to the US. Lars could barely play drums, but he had connections to the metal scene & tape traders and convinced James to record a demo song in 1981 for a local label Metal Blade Records, which ended up on a compilation release 'Metal massacre'... Lars took the name Metallica from a friend who was starting a metal fanzine... In 1982, Metallica played their first show in L.A. w/ Dave Mustaine (lead guitar) and Ron McGovney (bass)... They started writing original songs and made a demo that year which circulated around the country. In 1983, Metallica relocated to San Francisco so that Cliff Burton (bass) could join them... A trip to New York City that year to record their first album resulted in Dave Mustaine being fired and Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) replacing him and recording his parts for their first album "Kill 'em all" in 1983, released on Megaforce Records. Dave Mustaine returned to L.A. and formed Megadeth in retaliation... their debut album was released in 1985. Metallica set the pace for the thrash metal scene in the 80's, leading the pack of bands that played this brand of fast and furious metal... 2nd album 'Ride the Lightning' was released in 1984 and the band was always touring America or Europe. 3rd album 'Master of Puppets' was the big breakthrough in 1986 as Metallica opened an arena tour for Ozzy Osbourne... the album sold gold in the US (half million copies). Tragedy struck Metallica on tour in Europe in 1986... a bus accident in Sweden took the life of bassist Cliff Burton at age 24. A devastated and inebriated Metallica opted to carry on w/ Jason Newsted (bass) joining the band and finishing the tour... releasing a covers EP in 1987... They released 4th album 'And justice for all' in 1988 and were blowing away their competition on tour that year and launched their first arena headline tour in 1989 and their first music video 'One' on MTV... the album sold 2x platinum in the US (2 million copies). Hoping to break even bigger, the band recorded their self titled 5th album in 1991 (often called the 'black' album) and made the songs more accessible and not thrash metal like previous albums. It made #1 on the charts and sold over 16 million copies to date in the US w/ 5 MTV music video singles. Metallica spent years touring on that record, finally ending the run of tour dates in 1994 before taking a break. Recording enough songs for 2 albums, Metallica emerged w/ the album 'Load' in 1996 but had drastically changed their image w/ short hair and a commercial sound that fans were not too happy with... but still sold 5x platinum, followed by 'Reload' in 1997... Then, a double CD of cover songs in 1998 w/ the title 'Garage Inc'... Their most successful era was capped w/ a live CD performed w/ a full classical orchestra, released in 1999 as 'S&M'. But the problem in the band had gotten worse w/ time... bassist Jason Newsted quit the band in 2001. Metallica attempted to record a new album, but James Hetfield ended up in rehab for alcoholism. The finished album 'St. Anger' in 2003 was supposed to be a return to thrash metal, but the sessions had been shaky and the under-produced record was universally slagged... Only a small minority of Metallica fans cherish 'St. Anger'... Robert Trujillo (bass) joined Metallica in 2003 for the tour. The band tried again in 2008 w/ 'Death Magnetic' and it was better received... (This Quebec concert was filmed on that tour). They would also play the 'Big Four' (of thrash metal) shows, uniting Metallica on the same stage w/ Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax at several festivals... Metallica attempted a 3D concert movie 'Through the never' in 2013... but it flopped in theaters. Their attempt at launching their own Orion Music Festival was a financial disaster as well. Metallica's long awaited new album 'Hardwired to self-destruct' was finally released in 2016 and got a good response overall... After the pandemic, Metallica announced the 2023 release of their new album '72 Seasons' and return to touring.
10:56 I LOVE the Look on Lar's Face, it's like He hasn't taken a Crap in 3 Months. 🤣 Great Reaction, not sure Which I enjoyed More , Watching them or Watching YOU. 😉
There's a reason why they are one of the most popular metal bands. Like Iron Maiden and Motley Crue they give you your monies worth when you see them live. All three bands give you a show.
I finally got to see them in concert about 4 years ago. They rarely came very close(Alabama), not since they first became popular. This was like the third song they played then but the black balls were in the crowd. No the masks are not usual, that was just a Halloween thing.
There's a band that started at VCU art school in Richmond Va when one student was putting together a movie about aliens that come to earth and start a band . He recruited some other students band to be In the movie . as a joke they would wear the movie costumes and be the opening band at their shows . way more people came to the opening band . They scrapped the movie and went full time working on the band project . Their name is Gwar and I think immortal corruptor is their best song if you ever check them out .
I would say if you choose to do Iron Maiden then Hallowed Be Thy Name live at the Hammersmith in 1982 would be the performance to go with. It has been reacted to by just about every channel that I've seen for good reason. It was at a point in the band's legendary history where they were looking to take over the world with raw talent, energy and showmanship. They're too important of a group to gloss over.
@@stefanwikander1336 I'm curious about how many millions of albums you've sold. Also how many sold out world tours have you been a part of? Oh what's that number... *Zero.* Just a heads up jealously is never a good look.

Thanks for your reaction. Metallica - Live in Moscow, Russia (28-09-1991) Full Concert.being a gamer i thought you would have done alex terribles cover of doom eternal thats epic
Hey there. I like your reactions. I have a suggestion for you. It would be cool if you react to this Metallica song. Disposable heroes - Basel Switzerland 1993 Regards from Serbia and cheers🍻
More vintage Metallica - live from Moscow. Just about every reaction channel reacts to Enter Sandman from this show, but I strongly suggest that you react to Creeping Death, the second song they performed in that set. Just don’t dwell on the helicopters too much.
not normal just cause its Halloween, you should go back to their debut Kill ´em all you will get screaming vocals by James very young...heeeeeeeeey my names is Peter :D
You would be okay at a Metallica show, Charis. Safe and boring. Lot of families, older parents and children. Also middle class, because the tickets are so danged expensive, so you won't be in danger of getting caught up in a mosh pit or getting beer dumped on you. It would be a nice, pleasant waspy night out.
Just fyi this isn't modern, this song has been played at ever Metallica show since they started back in 1981. And while it's cool to get your opinion on them, I wish something a bit more aggressive had been chosen. Met likes to think of themselves as "Rock" these days, but they started as thrash, and they pretty much started that whole genre.
Kirk Hammett made me pick up guitar. Cliff Burton (RIP) made me switch to bass. Not their best live performance though. This was mostly a just for giggles one lol.
Charis, to do the top band in the genre justice. You got to do Metallica at their live peak between 89-93. This is fun but does not have the speed and fury of the younger band trying to conquer the world. Please do another one. I would recommend Creeping death live from Moscow 91.
I can't describe how much I despise seeing you and Charismatic voice react to LIVE videos... especially if you're not super familiar with the band...I know "why" you do it, but it would make more sense to view the 80s live performance so it actually sounds closer to what is supposed to
No offense, but you picked one of their worst performances… their earlier recordings are much more ‘MetallicA’ PLEASE check out ‘Enter Sandman 1991 Russia’ you will experience what MetallicA is about and the energy they have

Nice reaction, but i think that you should react to their lives in 1989 like you did with slayer. Those times they were brutal!!!
It's actually the bottom of the list for best LIVE performances by Metallica
In 89 they were at their best and the best they ever sounded live.
