same thing with the Benz E-class !
I guess he makes a difference between high-maintenance cost and low-repair cost reliable.
German money-pits are designed to just eat parts unlike Lexus that eat miles

    • @JDYTC
      @JDYTC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Not all true. Most keyboard kids are too young to know that 80s and 90s Mercedes rivalled Toyota in reliability. The most reliable cars ever made are early 90s Lexus/Toyotas, early 90s Mercedes or early 90s Volvo. The difference is that Toyota kept making reliable cars and Volvo went to Ford.
Also BMW never came close to MB's reliability. They shouldn't be named in the same sentence. VAG especially fucked up with the first couple of generations DSG's.

Those good old days certainly weren't.

"Ultimate Driving Machine": everyone knows that a nickname you give yourself, isn't cool. It's the opposite of cool. At least Mercedes is a little more honest: "The Best, or Nothing." See? They're telling you that when you buy a Benz, and you get nothing, don't be surprised. It's like if I gave my wife a box:
    "What's in the box?"
    "A million bucks, or nothing."
*Opens box, and finds it empty.*
    "See? I wasn't lying."
MB's slogan may as well be, "It's a potato...or not."
Lexus? Theirs is even dumber (and I say that as a Lexus owner): "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection." Seriously? They came right out and admitted it? Who the hell pursues something they already have? Ergo, they're just admitting imperfection, and buyers eat it up. I should change my motto to this:
"The Relentless Pursuit of Friends." See how that means, "No friends"?

I think we should not stress ourselves out too much about car reliability. All these car brands can run 10+ years or 200k+ miles before a major breakdown or you will just have to replace it because of being outdated and the exterior is rusting out and will be costly to repair. Even current cars with new tech like with lcd can last 10+ years if you will. My phone and and TV still working until now, its more than 10 years already so I think, how you take care of things play a major factor when it comes to reliability. Just buy what you like and as long as you can afford it without compromising financial stability then I think you are good to go. The only reason you will not buy a certain car is due to having a known issue like owning the car for a few months and some parts of the car will fail. Nothing lasts forever in this world, its just a car, its just a material thing, we will not live in this world forever so make the best out of it. Just know your priorities and share your wealth to those who are in need.

BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and Jaguar (I'm not including Jaguar) are reliable until they brakedown. I run into a 2010 BMW E60 5 series for $7400 months ago with 86k miles at an Bay Area used car lot. Besides the vehicle passing SMOG, it's due for a lot of work, but being 9 years old, more problems down the road. Someone bought the car days later.
The most reliable luxury cars are lower end low maintenance vehicles. A Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima with luxury features.

    The actual order:
    1. Lexus
    2. Acura
    3. Infinite
    4. Genesis? (Still early to tell)
    5. Anything European

He's right about Lexus, I have had two over the past 10 years, only changed the tires/oil and done routine maintenance, and you can get them serviced at at Toyota dealer...plus who wants a 50k BMW with vinyl seats?

The interesting thing is how much people who own a 15 year old Lexus want to hate on new MBs and BMWs like they're terrible cars LOL.... I wonder why....
I see no MB or BMW owners hating on Lexus. Lexus is a super nice car. It's not as cool as MB or BMW and def not as amazing of a driving exp -- but it's without doubt a super nice car. Drive what you enjoy.

Summary- First, for reliability, Lexus beats the German brands. This has been true for many years. Everybody knows it. Second, if you must go German, the larger the car, the less reliable it will be. Large German cars are packed with too much and unnecessary tech that proves finicky and unreliable over time. Good video.

I wonder if adding an oil catch can as a way to keep oil out of the intake would help with carbon build up on direct injection engines.

Many of BMW's with the 35i and 40i engine designations share the same engine and drivetrain with 3, 4, 5 Series and many X-Series too! Same reliability in a different body style, trim level, option package etc.
