  • CC Webster is Hodgkin's Lymphoma Survivor. This is her story.
She was 29 when she was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin lymphoma. She underwent 12 cycles of the ABVD chemotherapy regimen before the cancer was in remission. Hear from her as she talks about getting diagnosed, how to deal with the side effects, her hair loss and response, and relying on others for support.
You can find CC's entire story at The Patient Story: www.thepatientstory.com/cance...

    Background:
The Patient Story turns in-depth interviews from recent cancer survivors into a FAQ format-story along with timelines to give newly diagnosed patients and caregivers a sense of what their lives may look like in the upcoming months. Hear straight from the people who've already been through it.
TPS (formerly OneDavid) was started by Stephanie Chuang, a non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, who wants cancer patients and caregivers to get the information they need in a human way, not with medical jargon. Visit www.ThePatientStory.com for more.
If you would like to share a story, give feedback, or just say hello, we'd also love to hear from you! Please write us at support@thepatientstory.com.
    _____
    A message from our founder:
    My name is Stephanie.
In 2013, I found a story that touched my heart: a group of friends were fighting to raise awareness about bone marrow donations for a young woman who'd been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It had spread to her brain.
Nina was in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. She's of Asian descent, which narrowed her odds of finding a match (fewer people of the same race and ethnicity registered to donate).
The good news: she found a donor! The wife and mother of two is living happily. I couldn't be happier.
The "odd" news: I was diagnosed with the same cancer, same sub-type just three years later.
That motivated me to create The Patient Story: a company to help cancer patients and caregivers by giving them real answers from real people - people who've actually been through the experience.

I had a different reaction when I found out! { “ This is it ! The final curtain call. I was 65 going on 105 ! Totally looking decimated! I had a great life I said to myself. I’m ready to go! “ } Forty-five days later ,, I’m still here. Starting my second cycle of chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin’s aggressive Lymphoma.

I recently gave up that i would have my life back.
Chronic fatigue aged me 20 years.
Treatment saved my life, but i am not living.
Job, exercise, interests and family life. It all got reduced to 25 %.
I was alwas very stoic, but 4 years of this, cannot be explained to people. I wish you all well, and hope you avoid the fatigue.

I’m a 25 year survivor of stage IVB Hodgkin (called Hodgkin’s back then) lymphoma. I had the crazy regimen of MOPP/ABV, 6 cycles total. I’m glad to see you’re only required to do ABVD now! The mustargen was the hardest to deal with. I had my spleen removed and also had 8 weeks of radiation therapy. I took mega doses of vitamin C (like 50,000 mg per day!) I’m thankful to God for giving me a second chance at life and pray for anyone battling cancer. It’s not a walk in the park.

I’ll be 73 next month and I just found out that I have a recurrence of my HL after 3 1/2 years. This time around I chose radiation. It was a punch in the gut the first time I was diagnosed and this time was a little easier to handle the unfortunate news. I trusted my team before and I trust them now. I believe I’ve got this and look forward to getting on with the treatments and move on once again.

I'm glad that we have the Free NHS and 2 week wait system here in the UK. Once referred under the 2WW system, you wait no longer thsn 2 weeks before the next move or appointment. We also don't have to worry about searching for Drs / consultants / surgeons, as this is done by the NHS.

Awesome message to all cancer fighters at the end of her testimonial! Let cancer be the catalyst that allows the new, stronger, galvanized, and more potent version of yourself to emerge. My non-Hodgkin's diagnosis helped to simplify and focus my life. It's one of the best things that have happened to me! (That said - I don't want to go through it again!) Bottom line: I think the mortality rate is still 100%, right? 😉 Don't just "go out" on your own terms, truly engage life in a loving and life-giving way! This lady's got it!

The first four minutes I was in disbelief. So in America even when you can afford healthcare there is no guarantee you’ll get it??? And you have to arrange it yourself??? That’s the most ridiculous dystopian shit I’ve ever heard. In the UK the NHS would get you started on treatment within the week and have a full medical team to support you without you having to make a single phone call. The system in the US clearly doesn’t function as well as people claim.

Your statement isn’t totally correct! I found on November 12th of this year 2021 that I had a tumor, in my belly, the size of a football! Forty-five days later, I’m starting my “second cycle” of radiation chemotherapy tomorrow! You see, my healthcare provider did everything for me … from the moment I was admitted to the ER, to the installation of a nephrostomy bag the same day, to the transfer to a bigger hospital for the biopsy and installation of an IV portal …. to the transfer of an even bigger hospital (called the VA) to begin chemotherapy! It all happened in 7 days ! Those first seven days was horrible. So much so that I wanted to die! It was like going through the burning fires of Hell !
