Newborn baby deer in hiding & mothers return

  • Five different camera view angles - fawn stands to stretch, grooms itself, and waits until dark for its mothers return. This is normal behavior for baby deer (fawns), they hide by themselves until the mother returns to feed them. They don't need to be rescued, in fact to pick them up or move them is very harmful. When I found this fawn I set up the cameras and left it alone with the cameras running.

    These babies are so adorable and I think it is awesome the way mama will leave them and stay gone for HOURS and the baby just lies there patiently waiting for her to come back. My mother told me that when she was potty training my older brother she also had a newborn a couple of years younger than the brother she was potty training. She put "Jake" on his potty chair and told him, "Don't you move until I come back and get you". She then went away and started caring for her newborn and doing other chores around the house and she TOTALLY FORGOT the toddler sitting on his potty chair. Her best guess was that she had left Jake on his potty for longer than an hour when she finally remembered him and went running back to see where he had gotten to and when she got back he was still patiently sitting on his potty chair waiting for her. She asked him why he didn't come and get her or at least call out to her and he said that she told him to stay there until she came back so he was just waiting and he knew she would come because she had told him she would. My brother was grown when she told me that story but she cried as she told it because she still felt bad about forgetting about her toddler and leaving that little fellow sitting on his potty chair for such a long time. Seeing this little fawn reminded me of that story.

    It still amazes me that these newborn fawn know not to make noises nor run around exploring or playing. Such good instincts for self preservation. I wonder how long a fawn will wait around for its mother if she doesn’t show up for much longer than usual?

    How cute, since I've started fishing I've been lucky enough to find two fawns. Albeit, I didn't see one of them for 15 minutes at least before I spotted it because of how well camouflaged it was right next to me. The other one I never saw at all, it was behind me very well hidden and it eventually got up and ran while I was fishing from shore. Scared the crap out of me!

      @@Gold-oj8do Fawns have no scent for 2 days after birth? How is this possible? Even when the fawn is born, there's lots of blood and fluid left on the fawn, so theres that scent unless the mother spent alot licking the fawn to mask the scent. Thats the only way I can think of its scent being masked.

    • @Gold-oj8do
      @Gold-oj8do 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rafihaq9321 Yes, the doe will eat all the afterbirth...just like most animals. They keep them scent free by continued cleaning. Fawns can stand around 20 minutes after birth but keeping up with the mom is a different story. That's why she leaves them but stays close by....she will attack a predator. This is from the internet: Fawns are born scent-free and have white camouflage spots which protect them from predators. The doe continues to keep her babies scent free by consuming her fawns urine and droppings.

      It is just instinct, if they don't stay hidden a coyote would get them for sure. The mom stays away and only returns to feed the fawn. A baby deer has no scent for the first couple of days of its life so the mother deer leave them only to return a few times a day for feeding. After it is strong enough the mom will be with the fawns until they are fully matured. A Doe will rarely abandon a fawn.

      but Is it the same baby deer which got united with mom ??

    • @Gold-oj8do
      @Gold-oj8do 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KARTHIKPANCH97 Yes, it's the same baby deer. The mom deer (Doe) know their own offspring. In fact most Does will not nurse another Does fawn.

      For the first 2 months or so fawns are pretty helpless and slow so mom hides her baby immediately after birth. Fawns have very little odor and are very well camouflaged but moms presence attracts predators. She only comes around every few hours to nurse it and go away again. Staying away from the fawn is the best way she can ensure it's survival.

      That is definitely the right thing to do. Most people will pick it up and think they have rescued it. that is the worst thing to do. Just so you know I very slowly and quietly set my cameras up, then walked away, I only returned to retrieve them much later.
