How to fix iPhone 12 Mini Error 4045 - Won't switch to "Black Screen Recovery Mode"

  • This iPhone 12 Mini experienced severe water damage and after clearing all the shorts, was stuck at a repeating apple logo. It would go into recovery mode and start the update process but would get hung up at the "switching to black screen recovery mode" stage. If you keep waiting, it will eventually show error 4045. I have heard of this problem a few times before, but this is the first time I am seeing it myself. I have found the solution to be resistors connecting to the EEPROM. This was mainly determined simply by a thorough physical examination and just looking with my eyes at which components seem like they might be bad. Your eyes are very often your best diagnostic tools!

Good job, thank you for your videos. I have a question please : wasn’t it more simply to make a swap please ? Thank you

I always to fix the board first, because if something goes wrong on a swap then data will be lost forever. I try to take the way that gives the least risk to data, even if it takes a little longer.

I'm curious, why didn't you measure the resistor after removing it from the donor board, and then put it back again, to keep the donor board complete, then get an equivalent resistor for the repair?

I mentioned about that at 5:15. I was going to replace with an equivalent resistor but the value was kind of fluctuating when I was measuring it on the board so I wasn't exactly sure what I needed. I guess I could have taken it off first and then measured, but I just figured I would most likely transfer another back when I needed to use it from whatever damaged board I'm working on.

Nice! What software are you using has net names for the 12 mini? ZXW doesn't seem to have them. Or are you just referencing another model to find the name?
