  • This video has been entirely brought to you by ‪@BurjTransit‬ and JoshuaXposure! After 2 years of reconstruction, the northbound tracks 3 and 4 have opened. This marks the halfway point of the Lawrence to Bryn Mawr portion of the Red and Purple Modernization project (RPM). With Phase 1 completed, now the old tracks 1 and 2 will be demolished and rebuilt using pre fabricated concrete segments being put in place with a gantry system.
    New temporary stations have been built at Foster (Argyle), and a southbound only Bryn Mawr station. In this video Burj filmed the first couple Red Line trains using the new tracks which opened July 28th, 2023 before 10pm CDT. The very next day CTA was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 4000 series 'L' cars which means both the 4000s and the 2400s traversed on the new tracks! Those clips are brought to you by Josh.
    Enjoy this video marking a historical milestone in Chicago Transit history.

    Notice the new sound on breaking and take off on the 5000s!, that sound is so epic and better than the original sounding

    • @tonyp7779
      @tonyp7779 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sound is the wheels on corrugated rail. The rail may have been ground after it was installed, or the corrugations are from manufacture. Eventually the corrugations will wear off, and the trains will sound like normal again.

    The sound is completely different! Shows how new the rails are, its so quiet compared to the old track with all that rattling! The VVVF inverter sounds are also very clear and audible!

    I live across from the tracks and those trains are noisy AF compared to before, especially early mornings and late nights. I don't want to move so I keep my windows close at night 😩

      CTA is going to add soundproofing to the tracks soon.

      @@carstarsarstenstesenn I have no idea but I sure hope they fix it soon because while watching TV or on the phone the noise is frustrating to say the least.

      @@carstarsarstenstesennif you know anything about trains...New tracks are loud. Think about it, the tracks need to be used plenty to get properly shaved up.

      Yeah, that'll change when the tracks are used for about a month or so.

    Bryn Mawr was my late aunt's home station for nearly 52 years. I'm willing to bet those two 4000s ran on the Evanston Express at some point tin time.

      @@ChicagolandTransit That was the last line to still have overhead wires, so they kept a group of Plushies running until that line was converted to third rail.

    The sounds here reminds me of the Los Angeles Metro Subway Cars on their Red Lines and Blue Lines especially the traction motors sounds. That is these newer silver L cars.

    Meanwhile, the reroute of the 84 Peterson was a complete shitshow, with half the drivers refusing to follow the reroute on Monday morning. On my rush hour bus, a driver argued with passengers that the reroute was just for "Saturday", instead of, like, for the next two years. So don't celebrate RPM all that much. Hundreds of 84 customers got screwed all day long Monday.

    I noticed on the noise barriers next to track 4 there are signage poles indicating where the future stations will be.

    I also wonder how different the sound is, going from a ballasted trackbed to direct fixation on concrete. The sound walls should help.
