Hi Mr. John, I tell ya I did my son's Baseball bat like that using red and black grip tape.. I'd bring the rope back down causing a criss cross... he loved it and so did all the boys on his team...lol.. so I ended up one whole after noon having to tape 11 bat handles for all the boys 😅 good memories and it makes a heck of grip! Good stuff

Excellent video. I played a lot of hockey and at age 58 and I still do. Wrapping handles of hockey sticks is a common practice, and thank you for showing otheis that pro tip. If you have an old round shoelace ....that works as well for underlying with the tape. Ive done this with many of my handles for yard equipment. Thanks again for sharing.

Robert- There is something so different about hockey, the relationship between stick and puck, lining up a shot and fighting your adrenaline so not to miss. Having superior situational awareness is a must. When played right it’s such a beautiful thing to see.

I used electrical tape on my baseball bat grip. Bad Choice! Slicker than a Politician! I won't get into all the various wraps that could be used (racquetball racket, tennis racket, baseball bat, road bike handle bars, etc.), but I remember playing street football in high school, and my sneakers came apart, so I wrapped tape around the bottom and the top.

Those LEDs are nice. I only have one florescent tube light left in the garage and I need to replace it. LED is a game changer in unheated buildings. Like a regular light it can turn on and off, not affected by the cold and isn't hard on the bulb if you are just popping in and out for a tool. Funny thing about the tape, I believe that is close to the original medical tape of the early 20th century. I did a job a while ago for someone who was concerned about her home security. I found a stubby aluminum baseball bat on a garage sale. Painted it purple and wrapped with tennis racket wrap. Boy that stuff was nice. I don't have a grip problem for wood handles yet although I don't use them in the rain much. Yes as you get older you are not the swinger you were when you were young even though you think you are. Well maybe I can be for 10 minutes on the dance floor. 🤣

Hi Scoutcrafter What I have done with hammer handles is before you put the head on the handle smear JB weld on the handle and in the head put them together with all the wedges the JB weld will squish out you clean up the excess JB weld, they are verry solid after that. The only thing is if you ever want the handle off again you would have to destroy the handle.

What about old fashion friction tape? Bought a cheap dead blow hammer and wrapped the handle with friction tape. If the handle/tape is to sticky, just rub some sawdust on it. As for loose handles, there were several yard tools with loose handles so I filled the tops with non-expanding polyurethane glue and let that soak into all the gaps. You might need to tape up the bottom side so the glue doesn't run out. May not be a traditional fix but so far so good.

Man, you have a habit of bringing back memories. Hockey sticks, tennis balls, and the garage door. There were some impressive indentations. In college, they would start with Frisbees, and after a while hockey sticks would appear. The puck of choice was a rock-hard stale bagel. You could play until the bagel hit a door frame and it shattered. The game ended when you ran out of stale bagels.
Back in the day, we used black friction tape to tape the blade of the stick and to tape the handle. Friction tape is sticky on both sides, thus you get a natural grip. We also used it on baseball bat handles. If the crack was in the handle, a couple of screws and friction tape worked wonders.
    Bon

Great memories Scout. Here in Australia it was cricket during the summer and us kids used the rubbish bins as wickets and we also played in the middle of the street. We used electrical tape to wrap a tennis ball to give it some weight and stop it travelling so far because not many kids could afford a leather cricket ball and the few that could would never ruin it using on the road. Most places had their own rules like “tip n run” which meant that if you touched the ball at all with the bat you had to run. That stopped some kids just constantly blocking the ball without running and there were usually boundary rules like hitting the ball over someone’s fence was 6 runs but you were out.
    Thanks mate, Stuart 🇦🇺

That rang so many memories with me, playing in the street, the road we lived on was a bus route and quite busy but there were a few dead end streets nearby where we had the run of the place with just the occasional shout out for vehicles, we are fortunate to live in such place now and it's great to see the kids out playing as they can't many places now !
I saw where you were going on the Hockey tape, my Dad showed me this years back, we also used to use old bike inner tubes rolled back over handles to increase grip, like a cricket bat handle !

Love that grip tape idea. Back in the 80s I used to work in the building trade in Alice Springs, Australia. Sometimes it would get up to 120F in the shade and if you grabbed a tool that had been sitting in the sun, you couldn't let go of it, because your skin would stick to it. Ah the good old days.

You dont see grip tape on shovels or picks much because they aren’t used like they used to be. Our father would offer work to a fellow who seemed always down on his luck. He would show up to set fences where he would cut small locust trees that were abundant on our property, cut them as posts, peel them, and let them dry. Then he hand dug the holes, set the posts, and strung barbed wire streching it tight. He never asked for help and worked like a mule using only hand tools. He was a kind individual and manual labor was his specialty; which he was a master of; sort of a lost art. Thanks for the grip tips.

Yes- My town was a very quiet part of northern Queens. Since the 80’s my town has grown quite a bit however more building and more traffic has changed everything here. There is a mass exodus from NY and CA. Lots of retirees and people looking for a better place to live make up that demographic. Any vacuum created is filled with people. Lol John the street hockey took me back and yes we use to use the rolls of electrical tape as well. I can't remember how many times the goalies would lose a finger nail from someone catching their bare hand with the stick trying to smack the puck in. It was always a challenge finding someone to volunteer to be the goalie lol. The grip tape we use to use thanks to my older brother playing hockey in high school was almost like a fabric it was different than you had here, and it also came in all sorts of colors yellow, red, black, white, blue etc it was almost shear like a mesh just very fine and it really stuck and usually we wrapped the handle and then followed it with the twisting and then wrapped over that.

Ok, you have to find out where to get those lights. You can't show something like that and leave us hanging.

We'd have the entire neighborhood playing in the street in front of my house. Kicker, wiffle ball, kick the can, sledding. The manhole was home plate. Such fun!

BTW - We need to talk about that brown lamp/extension cord taped to that BX cable that was in view during your LED lamp demo.

Years ago I had a makeshift air rifle range in my basement, I needed a small 10w bulb above my head to facilitate loading the guns. I kept it dark except for a spotlight on the target and one small light over my head. That plug was attached to a small socket and bulb. I had a nice 10 meter range! 😃👍

@@ScoutCrafterCan you believe that we too as kids also had an air riffle range in our dirty old basement. Seems like our parents must been a lot alike. To catch the BBs we had a steel plate at a 45 degree angle that would redirect the BBs into a stack of old news papers. The targets would be hung in front of the 'BB trap'.
