You and me both. When I found out it was available for the switch I got it on the spot, and side story will be available for the switch (at the time of this writing) at the end of May.
If there is ever and I mean EVER another Clannad anime series,it would take Kyoto Animation quite a long time cause they got a lot on their shoulders and need more time to recover
The Clannad anime is great as it is. I think a remake would ruin everything, especially if it's another studio since no one can do what Kyoto Animation does. Although I will gladly accept a Kappei route OVA/Movie or a Kyou/Tomoyo full-route adaption regardless of the studio. I think if Clannad were to ever come back with Kyoto Animation somehow, I'd like to see a Tomoyo After anime if anything. It can be used to pay respect to all of the victims we lost from the company. But yeah, they have a lot of things they're working on so that would take a long time if it were to ever happen. They have the Violet Evergarden movie coming out, the new 20th Century Electricity Catalog anime coming out, some anime-related thing to Free, some anime-related thing to Hibike Euphonium, maybe Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Season 2, and who knows what else.
Very nice and fairly put review! I agree that the giant eye thing was something to get used to, but the other elements definitely covered that. So awesome that Clannad's on the Switch now!
I need some help. I see on other versions of Clannad that their is an "Achievements" option on the menu. I have completed a route and do not see it. I have the switch version and I know the switch doesn’t have achievements but I just wanted to make sure. I am trying to get to after story but I don’t know if I am on the right track.
Why did I only find out today that it's actually available in the rest of the world? For a long time the game was only available in Japan, but I definitely need this!
I definitely think, like when it was on PSP, this would be good to have portable. 70 hrs sounds right for game time, iirc VNDB Def says it's a super long VN.
@Crumbsly I did, I got through two or three routes I think, it's really good, it's just incredibly long so I kind of lost interest, I should revisit it again sometime.
NGL, I didn't really feel anything on my first few playthroughs - but After Story pretty much dragged me in, and made this game my second favourite VN (First being Chaos;Child)
The R button activates the Skip function. And you can use Configure in the menu (tap x during a scene to open menu options) to swap between skipped read text vs all.
I have 2 questions about the game since I’m planning on ordering it from the Switches eshop today. 1. When looking up a guide for the dialogue choices from a Steam site, will the choices be the same for the Switch version? And I know it’s optional, but do you have to do the baseball route to get the orbs of light? And 2, will the game crash when I play it on Kotomi’s route? Or not since the game got fixed?
The Choices will be the same. As for the other questions: First of all, you don’t have to do the baseball route. It doesn’t give you a light orb. 2nd, Kotomi’s route got patched and now works without issues.
I only have 2 complaints about Clannad. I still love Clannad, but these two complaints make other Key titles more enjoyable and tolerable than Clannad to me. 1. Tomoya is just an asshole. Every single time he ruins Sunohara's or one of his friend's day, I just role my eyes in frustration. I'm not exaggerating, this is the 200th time you've ruined someone's morning and you don't think, "Hey, maybe I'm really hurting my friend mentally and physically, I should stop and apologize." Nope. I really had to stop several times and say to the screen "what the fuck is wrong with you?". Being a problem child and having a semi-"rough" home life isn't an excuse for Tomoya's behavior. Don't give me that. 2. The pacing really drags on longer than it needs to be. I expected this going in, but damn the drag really hits hard. Some characters like Yukine or Mei who I expected to have like a 4-5 hour story had it longer. I think it's the route that's boring, because I was going pretty fast in those routes. And don't get me started on Kyou's route, my god.
is this worth playing if you've already watched the show adaptation? i wanna play it but i'm afraid i'll get bored having already experienced a lot of the story through the anime. but you did say that there's a lot more impact to the individual routes so that's probably something
The side routes are much more fleshed out in the game. They were all kinda thrown in here and there during the anime for coverage but many of the routes are pretty in depth with character development. Especially the Tomoyo route which got its own sequel game to continue what they did with her. It’s mostly the main route that isn’t super different from what the anime did.
Would love to suggest a top 10 VN list . (although Morgana would be first probably) .awesome vid dude. Also before that top 10. Please review Death Mark as I can't see if u reviewed it
The end result is the same but the events around the girl in the illusionary world in the final segments of that place are different. Since the anime doesn’t cover the story reasons you go through all the routes in the VN, the anime doesn’t talk about the real reason the ending of after story happens the way that it does.
Thanks for posting this review I'm here because limited run is getting ready to release this game but it's really not my cup of tea keep up the good work though
Obsolete Excellence Probably because a few of the themes in the story I think. That is pretty much it I think tho since I don’t remember much of anything else like sexual content or violence unless I am forgetting something.
Angelo Diaz There’s one or two fist fights at certain points, at there’s a very short scene where **Spoiler Warning** Tomoya and Tomoyo get a little [redacted] but nothing actually happens and they get caught before anything even *can* happen. Besides that I don’t remember anything happening outside a few innuendos or jokes
Randy Rando Rander I actually seen the anime but it has been a very long time since I saw it so I completely forgot about those scenes. Thanks for reminding me.
Clannad is the most confusing anime I have ever watched the scenes are all over the place and theres no leading up to any scene it kinda just jumps to scene too scene :/ I'm only on episode 2 tho and I'm getting uninterested already
Watch both seasons. And finish it all the way through to really appreciate the anime, characters, and story. I personally got really uninterested from episode 1 as well. But man oh man by the end of season 2 Clannad has become my second favorite anime of all time. I'd recommend you finish it before giving up on it.
Ugh, i don't have a Switch but i love Clannad, i cried on After Story specifically. One of my saddest anime. I wished they released this also on the PS Vita.
Tbh I NEVER knew Clannad was a Visual Novel until YEARS after I watched the anime! Now things make a little more sense. I really love the franchise and might look into the game more!
This might put my purchase of Pokémon Sword on hold, like no joke, even though I have Clannad on blu-ray and After Story on dvd. I've always wanted the visual novel.

I had no idea that this came to the Switch. Clannad is one of my all-time favorite animes. It's the only visual novel that I've ever wanted to try.

@Voidaken why not?
@Voidaken what's wrong with that?
@Voidaken All VNs on switch and ps4 overall just gets rid of the hentai scenes of they had it in the first place
@Voidaken either way any VNs can come over and just remove those scenes regardless
@Voidaken yes any we've already seen it, they can bring anything over and make changes its rather simple
I’ll accept every VN on the Switch. It’s the Vita but good.
