  • Rooster fishing in Costa Rica near Los Sueños Resort and Marina, off Playa Herradura. We first took a small panga from the beach to our fishing boat that was moored about 100 yards away. Very neat experience overall and a bucket list fish marked off.

great videos. i have a question unrelated to this video and i was hoping you can help. im looking to buy a 2001 Yamanha 200 hp hpdi outboard with 478 hours. what compression numbers should i see for a healthy engine?

My biggest concern would be why does a 20+ year engine only have 478 hrs?
HPDI we’re either really good or really bad for people. The 200hpdi was one of the better models. But these engines do not like to sit without being ran. They have small filters notorious for getting clogged causing issues. Main reason for their demise is not being ran and having used ethanol laced fuel sitting in their tanks.
Good numbers for a two stroke is anything within 5% of each other. Around 120psi +/-

@@ReelTeaseFishing im not sure why the hours are so low, maybe an older owner that was unable to use it as much. it was hooked up to diagnostic tool, and the read out of the hours are on the motherboard of the outboard. i just found out that it has 120psi in all cylinders. i will be checking that my self when i look at it this weekend. thank you getting back to me. apparently it gos in and out of limp mode. im assuming its the neutral switch is bad. his mechanic checked all filters and fuel pressure and found them fine. it would be great to hear your thoughts on this. he has already repowered his boat with a new 4 stroke. so i think im getting a good deal for it. comes with controls and gages. $2500

I had a HPDI that I ended up removing from my boat with 376hrs. One day it would run fine then a month of trialing and it would stay in limp mode. I picked that engine apart. Never figured it out.
I did find a bad ground when I was removing it and I truly believe that may have been it. But I was committed to a new engine and wanted out of the HPDI.
I’d replace the positive and negative cable from battery to engine with a brand new one if you do buy it.
It’s not a bad deal if you are mechanically inclined. The neutral switch, water in fuel, oil sensors and overheat will put it in limp mode.
      Best of luck 🤙🏽
My channel has a lot of HPDI videos and info
