I was given 13 long comic book boxes and I do have secret wars II #5. I know very little about comics and I am glad I found your channel. Keep up the good content!
I remember going to the local flea market with my allowance in the 80's.. of course it had nothing to do with collecting for value but just the love of comics.
I always found it funny how one person goes through a box of comics and passes over a book that I want and in my head I’m like “ wait, your not pick that book up?!?!” 😂
What I love seeing is completely random longboxes, that have no alphbetical or company order, makes the thrill of maybe seeing a personal grail that much sweeter.
You missed Birds Of Prey: Black Canary/Oracle #1, the first official team appearance of the Birds Of Prey - well worth getting. The first six issues of Starslayer are Mike Grell at this best but the presence of the Rocketeer is the real highlight for me; Dave Stevens was such a hugely talented writer and artist. The Lovecraft poem in Weird Tales is posthumous, possibly a reprint, as HPL died in 1937, but still, to own an original issue of Weird Tales pre-1950 would be amazing. Thankyou Mike for acknowledging the worth of Marvel's b/w 1970s magazines, an area of the hobby with so many collectors ignore or are even disdainful of. Yet a lot of great stories were published in these magazines including significant first appearances (such as Satana and Star-Lord); also, the titles covered a wide range of characters from Dracula and Morbius to the Hulk and comics adaptations of famous SF novels and short stories.
First issue of Dreadstar is cool! I got a great penciled and inked original drawing of Vanth Dreadstar from Jim Starlin back in 2005 at Wizard World Philly. And that Atari Force #1 is a damn good read.

At 1:44 Witchblade #1 Michael Turner cover. Colleen Wang and Misty Knight i think too were the best Marvel characters besides Daredevil in the Iron Fist, Luke Cage and the Defenders series.
I got that 1st Rocketeer for $1 about 20 years ago. I really wasn't collecting at the time but I was at an antique flea market and a guy had tables set up with just dollar comics, so I went through and picked out all the keys I knew from collecting 10 year prior. The TMNT 3 (1st) sitting on top because it was too big, is what got me digging. I pulled about 100 comics probably worth $5k total then.
Mike you are an all around cool dude and hope to bump into you at one of the NE shops or maybe even brimfield this fall. As a fellow Lovecraft enthusiast I was psyched to see you find that weird tales! Thank you so much for sharing your great picks ups and adventures along the way!
Hey, congratulations on your haul . I am Bob in Connecticut and obviously somebody with that many comic books. Of course he has some kind of clue of the value. Most people do not have a clue because when I was a bartender in Connecticut people left in my face when I told them I buy X-Men Spider-Man Iron Man.. well the comicon in New York is bigger than the Super Bowl. I was just at the Connecticut comic con on Friday. The Mohegan Sun.. you’re definitely never going to get a good deal on the super key. That’s like hitting lotto.. well, I was a bartender I don’t work anymore I don’t have that many, comic books left. Well, I still have my amazing fantasy 15. 6.0 I bought that years ago New York City for $4000. Yes I know the fair market value is $80,000 plus I was offered more than that from a comic book store in Connecticut. I’m not selling it.. I have another copy 8.0 restored no trimming I bought that when I was a kid as raw copy for only $450 yes I know it’s in the $30,000 range right now. I still have my first Iron Man tales of suspense 39, 8.5 I bought that for $5300.. that book sold a little more than a year ago on Comic Link for $120,000. Yes, right now I could only get about $70,000 if I sold it.. I still have amazing Spider-Man 1 6.5 I paid $4200. They just sold a copy on eBay $35,000.. fantastic four 48 9.6 I bought this on eBay for $3600 and that is in the $40,000 range. X-Men. 1 7.0 I bought this raw years ago for only $300.. I also still have Superman 1 5.0 moderate professional restoration no trimming I paid $12,500 . Batman. 1 5.0 restored I paid $10,500.. you are never ever ever ever ever going to see prices like this again if you want the good stuff, you have to be very wealthy like Vin Diesel Eminem people like that they have the good stuff.
I currently am looking for Starslayer 2 and 3. Just picked up the 3rd, 4th and 5th appearances of the Rocketeer. Plenty of chances to buy online but I want to find them in the wild. Funny I click on video and like a boss you just fan through a box and there is issue 2. Lol.
Those look great! Clark Ashton Smith and Robert Bloch in that Weird Tales on top of all the other names, wow, the elder gods must have given you luck in finding that. Very interested to see what you got on your second trip.
Great haul. Haven’t been to Brimfield this year yet. Hopefully in the fall. I love the Weird Tales pulp. That’s a deep rabbit hole! Coincidentally one of the authors on the cover Robert Bloch wrote Psycho. Also love the oversized Marvel magazines. The black and white art is just awesome.
I saw Captain America 241 and you passed it by! My heart dropped when your fingers just passed it by! Augh! Noooo! Oh well great video just wanted you to know that you passed by a Captain America 241! Why? Would you pass on that cover? The horror! I must be mad because no comic collector would pass on a Captain America 241! Your friend who may go blind Greg!
Haha I get so many comments like this. There are many reasons why I don’t get a book: cost, condition, I already own it, or I just don’t want it! That book has a simple answer, I don’t like the Punisher lol.
That deadly hand of kung fu is a very cool book. The fact that it’s in such great condition the way you picked it up is surprising. If I recall in the video, it was almost half moon shaped. I am surprised that it didn’t cause a crease down the middle.
