    The problem with Moyes at Man United was that he went in there thinking he had to rip up the foundations. He got rid of all the coaching staff, changes the players routined, micromanaged pretty much every aspect of his job and was doing things like telling Rio Ferdinand to study other, lesser defenders as if they were better than him. In tactical briefings he'd spend a lot of time talking about the opposition. At a club like Everton that was fine but at a club like Man United, with players who were the reigning champions and had it drilled into them for years by Fergie that they were the best players on the pitch in any game, it simply wasn't the way to go.
    It would have tough for any manager to follow Ferguson at United and while I get there's going to be a natural inclination to change everything in order to stamp your own authority, at some point you have to realise where you are and adapt to your surroundings.

      @@BirthOfAnEmceeTV Umm, Paisley undoubtedly had great success at Liverpool but I take exception to your comment that he won "twice as many trophies in half the time". Paisley was Liverpool manager for 9 seasons. He won 6 league titles, 3 league cups, 3 European cups, 1 uefa cup and 1 European Super Cup. A total of 14 trophies. Ferguson was Man Utd manager for 26 seasons and won 13 league titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 league cups, 2 European Champions leagues, 1 European cup winners cup, 1 European Super Cup, 1 World Club Cup and 1 Intercontinental cup. A total of 28 major trophies. So Ferguson actually won twice as many trophies as Paisley not the other way around. Ferguson also had great success at Aberdeen, both domestically and in Europe, prior to becoming Man Utd manager. And he was successful over a much longer period of time. I didn't include Charity/Community shields for either because I see that as more of a friendly but for the record Paisley won 6 and Ferguson won 10.

    Moyes failed at Man Utd because the team was past it and had huge holes in key areas. Sir Alex squeezed the final drops of juice out of that aging squad to win his last title. Moyes should've been given 5-6 key signings in the summer, they only signed Fellaini.

      Moyes didn’t fail because he inherited a squad that was past it. He inherited the league champions. If he managed it properly they would’ve atleast been making top 4 easily that season. Moyes failed because he went in and basically ripped everything up, axed all the back room staff (when a lot of them would’ve made his job so much easier), changed meal plans, training regimes etc.Basically tried to micro manage every area of the job. Couldn’t manage players properly, over worked players like Ferdinand and Van Persie etc who under Ferguson were given ample recovery time between games/training. Encouraged players to watch footage of players who they were better than. Focused too much on how to deal with the opposition in match preparation, rather than focusing on his own team. Aswell as just playing some god awful football. Most of this is stuff that Rio and other players who worked under him at the time have said in interviews.

  • @kev247365

    I like listening to Ben. He tells a good story. I can't imagine Ole given the players anywhere near the same verbal lashing than Fergie which is why they won't get back to where they were

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ole was very friendly when he needed to be but he was also rough when needed to be. I do not think Ole got enough time in the job.
      It took Fergie about 5 years to turn it around at Old Trafford. New coach now hopefully he gets a good chance.

    David Moyes was never backed properly at Utd. The signings he made at Man Utd lasted longer than a lot of the ones made after. Never in doubt that Man Utd was the issue not Moyes

    • @lidoanhoxv9662
      @lidoanhoxv9662 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Moyes was never good enough for Man Utd. End of. Just go read up on what he did when he was there. Made a job that was already extremely difficult even more difficult for himself. As for the signings its not hard for 2 signings to outlast others and one of them was lucky to last beyond Moyes. He definitely should’ve been backed better, but would that have made much of a difference, I don’t think so, he was just massively out of his depth IMO. Great to see him doing well at West Ham now, It’s similar to how he was at Everton, challenging for Europe with an underdog, think that’s where he thrives.

    • @revelation3679
      @revelation3679 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. No one on this earth was ever going to seamlessly fill SAFs shoes. It’s taken over a decade for that club to reclaim even a fraction of their imposing presence from the SAF era. It just underlines the gargantuan stature of the man.

    His kids got the hairdryer too. I lived near him when he was St Mirren manager. We were playing footie in a nearby park and he came along and started screaming at one of the other kids to come in for their tea!!! Scared the crap out of all of us. .
