  • Heat therapy is an effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain, particularly in the back. It works by increasing blood flow and relaxing muscles, enhancing circulation to bring more oxygen and nutrients to the affected area, thereby healing damaged tissues. Heat therapy also reduces muscle spasms and stiffness, improving range of motion and decreasing pain. It employs the gate control theory, where the warmth distracts the body from pain by blocking pain signals before they reach the brain. Studies show that combining heat therapy with exercise improves function significantly, outperforming traditional painkillers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen in terms of pain relief and flexibility. Continuous low-level heat at 40°C (104°F) for 8 hours per day is recommended. Dr. Peng suggests trying continuous heat wraps or portable heat patches for convenience and mobility, which can be worn discreetly under clothing. He also advises combining heat therapy with gentle stretching or light exercise to maximize benefits.

This is super interesting. My chiropractor specifically told me "heat is not your friend (when it comes to back pain), unless you follow it with an icing pad." He always recommended cold treatments over hot. It's a little confusing, but I'm going to try the heat pad and see how I do.

    Hello.
My son is 11 and recently got a stable OCD knee I injury due to a weighted squat. He got it on July 16th and the Dr recommended arthroscope drilling in September. From my research, since my son is still young, I believe that I should try the conservative method first to see if it can heel on it’s own. I tried PRP injection on the fracture site October 20th and would like to see if it resolves on its own. My questions are: 1) Are their promising results with PRP alone and OCD healing. 2) if I wait until January to do the arthroscopic drilling (if their is no healing) is that too late.
