      Just got my winwing today. Have not got it entire setup yet, but they did fix the portion of the throttle getting caught on left and right engine. They sent some slightly longer screws with a little plastic spacer that you can put between the handgrip. Simple fix but can't even tell its there.

    So i watched the Magz unboxing on them and a little advice from a carpenter: put a metal plate or like a piece of hardwood between the mounting clamps of the throttle and your desk to kind of spread the force of them, otherwise it will make ugly dents in your desk and with the leverage that this thing has on them, you might break a big chunk of wood out of your desk if it’s not quality hardwood like oak. But in that case you will still make ugly dents in your desk.

    Winwin needs to offer the throttle and stick seperately at a later date. This would open up the market for people that already got a high-end stick and gimbal combination. And for about 400 dollars individually for the stick and throttle, the price seems steep but is actually on par with higher-end offerings. I've paid over 400€ for my Virpil gimbal and extention (without stick!) alone, after all.

  • @nigelmtb
    @nigelmtb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    On the upside, it is great to see new vendors entering this market (like VirPil). On the downside - these prices are stupid. I once built an entire two-seat A320 cockpit for £3000. These prices cannot be justified.

      the problem is most likely the quantities they produce, this is a very niche product so the production runs will be quite small and therefore expensive. If let's say logitech would create this product and sell it to its usual audience the price would probably be half.

      NWO.

    • @orion8981
      @orion8981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaGhost141 Logitech can't really justify making something this niche, though. Economies of scale work great for things that everybody want, but not everybody is going out to buy a Rolls Royce. Quality degrades as volume goes up, both as a matter of cost and a matter of QC.
      So while Logitech could make something of high quality, the pricing would only be marginally less for the same QC quality and design competence.

      I've had mine 5 months now, using at least twice a week or so for VR flying in DCS, it's great. I think the panel portion of it could be more useful (the ground power stuff is really puzzling), but the throttle is second to none and that's what I needed. It's built like a tank, holding up great.

      You can drop over 350€ (net + shipping + taxes) for a GIMBAL from Virpil alone (the VPC MongoosT-50CM2). Without the stick itself and without a mounting solution. The prices on the Winwin HOTAS are high for a piece of hardware, but the other boutique or high end manufacturers are as expensive.

      @@SatThuVoBui yes. It's still 200+€ for a gimbal, and again about 150€ for a stick (a TM f18,a Warthog or one of virpils own offerings). That's between 300-400 for the stic/gimbal part of the HOTAS, Which is roughly where the Winwin product would be of you separated stick from throttle. That is to say, they're price competitive.

    Thanks for the quick peek and the time+resources spent giving us that!
    And thanks for specifying it's not a review.
    Looks like a nice solid throttle for those not wanting to tinker something up themselves.
    On the less positive side (Catch 22, hence, why I'm glad Jabbers said it's not a review) I've been checking out WinWing's website and facebook, and it appears they're trying to tidy up their ship as far as back-orders are concerned.
    So far it's mostly the YT/Twitch people that got their stuff first, and there's nothing wrong with that, but staying on the safe end of the stick (like Jabbers did) never hurt anyone.
    Those who had dealings with CSIO and their truck shifter for ATS/ETS2 will definitely know what I mean.
    It's best if people took that to heart and let WinWing complete those orders (which will let them earn a bit of trust in the process) before rushing their orders in en-masse, remember that in a over-saturated niche market, where good product = a lot of dough, money is hard to come by for both manufacturers and customers alike.

    nice incite into the design, one tip, there is another use for differential thrust, that is for planes like the B-1, B-47, etc, multi-engine planes, which use this to taxi, using the outboard engines to turn the craft, where at taxi speeds, the rudder is not effective, and there is no nose wheel steering. so great to have the touch to do it, without any mechanical interference.

    So they left the freaking ground power switches in and on top of that got them completely wrong. Those are ground crew switches and they are NOT momentary switches.. they are A and B position switches designed to only turn on certain circuits for ground testing.. A total waste of real estate for a HOTAS system. and even worse than with the momentary switches they are even more worthless and inaccurate.

    • @GeFlixes
      @GeFlixes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are the Ground power switches perhaps magentically held in position in the real jet? If so, maybe they did the same thing as with the APU switch and made them temporary switches as making them magnetically held is most likely cost prohibitive.
      Honestly, the more the merrier. They most likely will get reassigned to hook toggle, landing geear toggle, master arm/master mode toggle and what not. I heard/saw mentions from several real-life pilots that they didn't touch them once in their whole carrer.

    Gear and flaps are not anywhere on the throttle quadrant. This is a replica. TM Warthog doesn't have a gear switch either because it's somewhere else in the real jet. So not sure about this complaint.

    • @Jabbers
      @Jabbers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the TM has a landing gear warning silence button which I use as the gear switch... but you are right. I will have to find something on here to use instead. But this isnt really a replica considering it has the wrong switches in the wrong spots, But it all became clear and stated in my next video (about the stick) that they plan on selling panels with the other components (landing gear lever, flats, etc) for your desk or to be mounted. Something I found out after this video.

    Reading through some of the comments here, I'm amazed at the price of those honeywell magnetic retention toggle switches... $1600 AU for just 1 switch. Also people have commented on the niche application versus price of this unit. IMO the best setups I have seen are where the person has used multiple touch screens and helios to mimmick different cockpits, this way one has full access to any type of cockpit by merely changing the Helios profile. twstatic.net/attachments/img_0438-jpg.1230401/ One minute this could be a Ka-50 the next an F-14 or F18 or a10, space ship, etc...

    • @xuhaoping4360
      @xuhaoping4360 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use helios for the front panel for a while, it straight up sucks, badly, there is no way to tell if you actually pressed a button or to locate a button in the blind. End up get TM MFD and build a UFC panel and only use helios for backup gauges and some small switch and buttons.

      Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS is the good mid-range option. It's almost 3 times as expensive as a X55 but the price isn't ridiculous yet. It's a good piece of hardware with a few shortcomings. Virpil has throttles as well, they don't sell complete HOTAS systems (you get to pick and choose) and have boutique quality and prices (If you're brosing their shop: Everthing is without tax !! and shipping can get expensive). I've heard someting about a VKB TECS throttle but that's in development and won't be ready until indeterminate future (at least that's what I've heard in the forum/reddit grapevine).

Especially when it is not cheap and for something unproven, also with a very small (in the PC peripherals market) user base to sell to. Seems a waste to have semi-replica switches mapped to things you use ONE time in startup... Battery, ground power, etc. Unless you're trying to build a cockpit and this is just one small piece of it, 75% of the switches aren't really useful... I can just mouse click those during startup... I want buttons, hats and 4-ways on the throttle that I can map to stuff I need while flying without looking down trying to mouse click... weapons, radar, etc. and for something the size of a suitcase, it's a lot of wasted useage. I went with the Virpil CM3, which has a lot of the stuff you need and flexibility with mapping.
