This proves my favorite saying. We actually don't own ANY land. It is a myth that owernship is ours. Our property taxes are just a form of cash rent paid to government. When they want it, they just take it.
You work hard you scrimp to own land and when you retire and sell it the state and federal government get a big part of it. If you die without any benificiary they get it all.
You're exactly right that the government can take your land. That's the way it always has been and that is awful enough. This situation is even worse in that corporations are taking Iowa land from its owners. Its bad enough when the government steals our land for a project that benefits every one. This is a bunch of business people stealing people's land just to make more profit.
Take a flood map a lay it over your pipeline map it may put into perspective how much corn is in those areas…..I have no clue how much was lost but what was lost is typically highly productive. Another thing that most don’t realize is how often does drought result in a 0 for yield lost of spots that are 0 after a flood
Good Pipeline report, and thanks! I never did think they would stop that pipeline. Eminent domain has been used for the past century for big well financed companies to get their way thru private property owners. It is big business hard ball
Before oil wells, they used to "harvest" oil coming out of cracks in the ocean floor by sailing ships around that had booms with ropes dangling in the water to soak up the oil.
There is no way a land correction isn't coming. Last land sale was close to a record, but the guy with endless money that had been buying everything in that range never bid once. I think the reality of $3 corn and 12, 15, 17 thousand dollar land is setting in.
My sister - law works for a ethanol plant in Argentina. Same story. Good luck competing with Argentina - Brazil. Thank god for our Mama Sam's teat giving subsidies. How about a level trading field. Of course we can import the cheaper grain to our plants like now.
With wheat harvest every bin on the farm is 3/4 full. Im 60 percent sold old crop. No new crop priced. .3 to .5 here in sw ohio since 1st week in june.
These low prices coupled with high inputs and four dry years followed by super wet this year here in North central Iowa has led me to the point where I am quitting grain farming at the end of this year. Everything in ag is manipulated to the point where you can only make a living farming by running way too many acres for me. I say if the big farmers want to pay way too much for land to buy or rent and feed all of us while barely making any money on a per acre basis then I will let them have the stress but I don’t want to hear them complaining about it. Run corn down to $3.50 and let them squeal to someone else.
This hole thing is sketchy as hell,I mean why not sequester at the source? Your probably get a million explanations why you can’t but the real reason is it’s more money than they want to spend and your gov is ok with that. Carbon capture is a cost centre, there’s no money in it and their not doin it out of the goodness of their dear little hearts!
The dollars that go into energy that goes into making Ethanol makes sense. But the left loony wing started counting the power of the sun. Also the cost of drying DDG's. I know one place selling E85 for $2.08
You lost my interest at Bruce Rastetter. He did some wheeling and dealing around 25 years ago in our area. Not sure anyone locally benefited much, just his interests.

Governor of Iowa obeys the Rich Elite.

3.50 corn 8.00 soybeans here we come!
Never buy Put options. 😂

Lol what a joke look at the history of CO 2
What kicks out more carbon? a) volcano b) all of mankind
Volcano’s, it also bubbles up from the sea bottom. More every day than mankind has produced in the entire history of mankind.
C) private jet travel
I'll take volcanoes for $1200 Alex!
Literally one burp from a volcano is a million times more greenhouse gases then all of human history.

Truth. 15K for crap land is nuts. It takes 100+ years to pencil out.
Isn't tillable farm ground already there or quite possibly beyond that now ? 80 acres at 1.5 million ?
@@danthurman9076 thanks a few pennies shy of 19k per acre. Is that an actual comp? HS!
@@thomaslthomas1506 cash rented at $ 300 per acre, South East, iowa. 86 CSR, takes a lot of water from adjacent farms,500 acres or so.

Its amazing that the carbon pipeline is ok but they stopped the keystone pipeline. Either one could bring down the price of fuel in theory.
"Money to grease the wheels" Truer words were never spoken.

That's the point.
Good morning! Thoughts on the Summit pipeline project??
There 2 kinds of thoughts. Those that agree with google, and those that are shadow banned.
@@ttanne7838 Absolutely. Google needs broken up into little pieces.
Would be very disappointing to lose a chunk of your family’s farm to something like this. It’s not something that money can buy👎
If they want right way they need to pay big.
I've been on the Butt end of these deals. The landowner always gets reamed.
I know i ended getting arrested and charged dealing with indot of Indiana
Carbon capture that old chestnut. What a joke from a leader and state that loves red herrings!
Goes to show both parties are corrupt as hell we need to un-elect every one of these crooks
Good report
I tune out at the mention of The Sierra Club.
Understandable...but I think a lot of people would agree with the comments.
And I tune in. Sierra Club does good things where I live.
Thank you Sierra Club.
2" of rain last night. 200+ corn yield, here we come!!
location?
Until the wind flattens it or hail stomps it. Most actual farmers I know never predict before harvest. My guess your no farmer.
