Thank you for including the sentences in writing with kanji and furigana! It is so helpful for reading as “native material”. I recognize many kanji, and I can look up the ones I don’t recognize if I want to because they have furigana. And they are natural sounding sentences!! Amazing!! 🤩❤️ thank you so much!!! I’ve subscribed to your Patreon to help support your content!!
So true. I feel like watching Kaname's videos makes learning so fun because of the way he makes his examples funny and engaging. I wish learning in class could be as fun as this
These videos are so informative and great for teaching more natural Japanese to those at an intermediate (or even high) level. Keep on making these and thank you!
hidden gem at 6:48 teaching the kid the essence of gaman がまん 我慢 , Japan's national characteristic of patience, self-control & perseverance. 我慢するしかないけどね
You’re such a beast teaching. Can’t tell how lucky I feel to have found your account here. I watch your videos day and night. I really wish I could have a teacher like you. Best of best Sir. Thank you so much.
One thing that surprises me is how willing Japanese people are to share the price of something (I'm just assuming this from your video). In my family, we don't ask about how much something costs or tell others how much we paid *unless* we're bragging about how cheap it was. The larger the sum of money involved, the less likely we are to share how much it cost. We were raised believing that to ask how much someone paid is rude. On the other hand, we might ask in an oblique way, for example, "That's a nice bag. It must have been expensive." If the person doesn't want to tell you, they'll say, "Yes, it was," or "It wasn't that bad," but not name a number.
@@tmj9734I was going to say, as a former poor kid now making decent money, I think this is mostly about perceived income. People are way more willing to talk about prices to other well off people. When I was poor, it was strictly only if it was very cheap.
At 1:42, it's just "cost" for both present and past tense in American and British English. "Costed" is used sometimes in Canadian and Australian English though.
No one says ‘costed’ in Canada. It would be regarded by any Canadian as a grammatical mistake. “It cost Tanaka a loonie yesterday, but today it costs a twoonie!”
Just to add to this, 'costed' is a valid word, but it has a very specific use case that Kaname did not use. For all examples here, yes 'cost' is what should have been used. "The whiskey cost me 10,000 yen." (not costed) Basically the only appropriate use of the term 'costed' is in an accounting setting when you're discussing the total expenditures for a business, manufacturing process, etc., and it's always 'costed out' not just 'costed'. "After considering all the variables of materials, labor, equipment rentals, as well as allowances for errors and delays, we have costed out the price of production to be $xxx.xx per unit." I have a business degree and now work in a field where I cost things out plenty. It's valid, used frequently in that context, and printed in numerous textbooks.

You have an excellent channel where I learn good/real Japanese. Your style and attention to detail is very educational. Tip. In English, we do not say "costed me". We rarely say "cost me". We would say, "The computer cost $500" but not "The computer costed me $500". Keep up the great work. I know how much effort is required to create your videos.
English is pretty much my first language but I also know Burmese since I live in Myanmar. Its a blessing because Burmese has same exact grammar as Japanese. Huge respect to anyone learning Japanese whilst only having English or other similar languages in their brain because its so difficult and different to learn. Luckily knowing Burmese made Japanese so easy and intuitive in terms of grammar.
I'm having trouble hearing the numbers 万(man) and 千(zen) when they're in front of 円(yen). When Kaname says 万円 or 千円 it sounds more like "maen" and "seen" than man-en and zen-en. It sounds like the first ん sound is omitted.
This can be explained by regional English dialect differences. Both "cost" and "costed" are correct, but which one is used depends on the region. Though, I'm not sure what the two exact dialects are. Where I live, people use both and it largely depends on personal preference.
I'm from South Africa, and as the English used here is very closely linked to British English, we only use "cost" for the past tense. "Costed" sounds very weird.
“Costed” is supposed to be an accounting term, like “we costed the project at $1,000,000.” “Cost” is the correct past tense of cost for most cases. Depending on where you are, the force to regularize this verb may be more or less strong.

Both are grammatically correct. Cost just sounds better and would be what most people would say at least in America
This can be explained by regional English dialect differences. Both "cost" and "costed" are correct, but which one is used depends on the region. Though, I'm not sure what the two exact dialects are. Where I live, people use both and it largely depends on personal preference.
