    • How to Build A Viking ...
This is how I made the tar I am using in this video: • VIKING survival - Birc...
In the end of the video there is a part where I explain what is going on in this video.
In this episode I am raising the wall posts for the two short outer walls.
I demonstrate how to layout and mark up the mortises and the tenons with simple tools.
We finnally got to use the saw to speed up the work. There is a very limited ammount of saws found form the Viking Age but I made a replica of the big saw from Mästermyr.
I use chisel, an axe and the big auger bit - all replicas of tools from the time period - to cut out the joints. I use a simple plumb line to make sure the posts are standing straigt.
I need to work more on the posts before they can be permanently installed. I need to add knee braces and a grooves for the wall planks. I make a simple paint brush and apply a layer of homemade birch bark tar to the bottom frame to protect the wood from the cold and wet seasons to come.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments section below and I will answer to the best o my abillity.

Interesting Plumb Bob to check for square. Using pitch to make glue and waterproofing for the logs. Many hours of work chiseling the tenons and mortises. Skal my friend!

    Love it.
Half a video in, I was like, it would be nice to use birch bark tar for protection, and here you are using it like a pro.
Great job bro, keep it up.
