    I’ve got curly hair. My “hair routine” is get in the shower, shampoo hair, rinse it out, condition hair, let it sit, brush conditioner into hair, let it sit some more, rinse conditioner out, get out of shower, put hair in bun, take bangs out of bun, and go on with my day. I don’t rinse out all of the conditioner, so it leaves my hair loose and conditioned. I don’t use any products, and my hair is actually super healthy

    • @berchyzgb4423
      @berchyzgb4423 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      If you want your hairstyle to last, if you want to wear your hair down, if you don't want frizz, if you want as much definition as possible, if you want volume, if you want your hair to actually look curly and not a like a frizz ball, if you want moisture to stay in your hair as long as possible. That's why people are using products. When I started to use curly products and take time to define my hair, it got curlier, healthier, and more shiny. Just because you have healthy hair using just a conditioner, doesn't mean everybody has the same hair as you, some hair needs more care to look good, and just to mention, every curl type is different too and it needs different care. Also, I'm curious, what's you curl type, 2, 3?

    Ok I’m 15 and my whole family has straight hair. So for the majority of my life they’ve been treating my hair as if it was straight. They’d buy me products that were not exactly great for my hair, and would make me brush it out like 3 times a day. So I lived like that throughout my entire life. Until this TikTok trend started coming out, and I saw how people’s curly hair was like brushed, and it was exactly like my hair. So I tried a few methods(brushing my hair in the shower, scrunching it, using a t-shirt to dry it) and low and behold I woke up with extremely curly hair. Like 2C-3A type of hair(which isn’t that curly, but I live in a mostly white/Asian community and my entire family is either white or Asian, so it’s pretty curly compared to everyone else.) So yeah, people in the comments asking how people didn’t know they didn’t have curly hair their entire life, that’s basically how it was like for me.
    Now all that I struggle with is volumizing my hair and defining my curls over the course of the days I don’t shower. It’s something that I’m now just figuring out, but one day imma figure it out.

      I didn't learn that I had really curly hair until my first year of university. Until then, I'd been battling straight, frizzy, unruly, dry hair that was really never fully straight, more looked like ponytail dents all over (I haven't used ponytails in years). Once I started uni and stopped brushing the life out of my hair and actually began to follow a basic curly hair routine, bam: 3 b curls. So they likely have gone most of their life not knowing they've got straight hair, though a few of these don't look like 'lemme try this, oh wow, I've got curls', as they're clearly well maintained, but still.

They had to go to some kind of hairdresser and gotten a perm or something, or lied about them "not knowing" that they had curly hair. Also, where is the representation?? Like I only see white girls trying to get curls, where is the type 4? Where are the black girls? They should have just put "type 2 or type 3" cause when they had curly I automatically thought that this could be something I could relate to or try. honestly the difference just from one wash can be huge but my waves/curls took a good 6 months to come back, so it usually won’t but if you brushed while dry and never used products with hold, even the first time is a lot (my hair was also never straight, just always frizzy and poofy, which is why I tried in the first place, my routine wouldn’t work for actual straight hair)

      I didn’t know until i was in my twenties. My home country’s weather was humid pretty much all the times and my mom told me i had straight hair, its just poofy and messy cos I don’t take care of it. I think i noticed that even when i or my mom style my hair straight, it always has a flick or curl at the end. (The women in my family always styled their hair straight so its not like they were any indication of my hair being curly)
      Not until i left, and a couple years in I realised my hair is still poofy, and even when i straighten it, it eventually starts forming waves, when it drizzles outside my hair actually just curls. And after i gathered the courage not to have to conform to Eurocentric beauty standards, i started committing to keeping my hair healthy and heat free so it curls better, even if i “look better” with straight hair.

    • @0ashurii
      @0ashurii ปีที่แล้ว

      some of these are definitely fake, like the girl with a half empty cantu cream, but it worked for me. i went through my whole life thinking my hair was straight because i’d brush it through when it was wet and it would dry straight (occasionally with a wave or 2 but i thought it was just from putting my hair in ponytails or claw clips) but then i tried the plopping/scrunching method and now my hair will not go back straight. i now have 2b-2c curls. i do think it would be hard to overlook like 3c-4c curls though.

      Everyone's hair frizzes when they blow dry it (at least a little) because the air is blowing the hair around. Does your hair flick at the ends in any direction that isn't straight down? Do you have any slight waves in your hair or does your hair dry naturally pin straight? Check the back of your head, that's where most of my "waves" were in the beginning but I thought my hair was pretty straight because I couldn't see the back of my head.

But for a start, because you're not actually sure, I suggest you washing your hair, condition it, wash it out and use a T shirt instead of towel, it's way more gentle, you can scrunch if you want to and just let it dry, then see what it looks like. And if you have wavy or curly hair, and you want it as healthy as possible, be prepared to buy some products for waves or curls and watch a lot of videos on YT 😄 hope this helps a bit

      If your hair dries wile in a scrunched or “compressed” position it’s bound to leave it at least wavy once it dries however that won’t last very long, it’s similar to the how some people braid their hair and wet it so that wheh it dries it leaves a beachy wave effect however chances are you won’t obtain defined curls that look natural at all because you’re hair doesn’t have a natural curl pattern to begin with, you won’t get that loopy locks appearance but trust me YOU don’t want curly hair it looks cute sure but it needs an insane amount of maintenance and gets tangled/frizzy/bothersome REALLY easy

      I get it. I had straight hair Mom & grandmothers - who had no clue what to do about my hair. So chop short like a boy & brush until it looks okay enough. I had cowlicks & tangles. I thought it was slightly wavy at best. Then recently I learned how to take care of my hair. I'm 51 - with years of horrible hair & hairdressers. My curls are similar to hers.
      It's learning every day more things about my hair. So, thanks to all the ones teaching girls like me. We appreciate it.

      @@Puty0urlipstick0n: lol. I'm not her and my hair isn't perfect like hers. If I used the products she used... let's just say they would not work in my hair. 😂 The shampoo and conditioner especially would cause me to cry. I swear my curls snarl and knot if I looked them. Add in my hair needs far more moisture.
      Your hair - it's way more beautiful than mine I am sure. It sounds like you are way ahead in the curl game.
