I spent a lot of seat time on a few KX500’s, loved them. This video brought back a lot of memories of those days. Back when we had places to ride and bikes we could afford !
I had the honor of buying a brand new 1984 KX500 in 1983, racing it for a year and then buying the cutting edge (Back then) 1985 KX500. That was the first liquid cooled KX500. I loved them both. The 1984 would crack the frame near the rear down tubes above the pegs ( lots of flat landing jumps back then ) and the rear fender turtle number plate never really thrilled me. It also detonated bad in the deep sand of the sandpits in Cromwell and Southwick. The 1985 would have a cylinder head coolant leak from time to time, but overall it was a really good bike and looked so dam cool back then. I wore the Kawasaki green and blue gear with a bell Moto 4 and blue hi point boots. I thought I was the baddest rider in the world !
This is why I love your videos, just a little bit of everything two strokes, you get all aspects of the sound and the emersion! Never rode a 500 but your video give me Shakey legs just watching you roll on the throttle! Ride safe friend 👍💪
i start rich and put the bike in high gear at low speed and full throttle and that is best method i discovered to test main jet same procedure for pilot just use 1/4 of throttle
For a minute there in the start of the video I didn’t think you was going to up the throttle fully, but you did in the end Nice bike rips bigtime, I could show you how to ride it properly aha
Try with the air screw 1/4 turn more IN. Sounds a jet size too rich on main jet too. I had a 1990 it behaved exactly like yours, a lean flat spot @ off idle yet, wants to foul plugs on main...
What sort of reed block you got a Boyesen or Vforce3. I have a boyesen my self and think they are better then the Vforce3 they have 4 peddles the Boyesen only has 2 big one's less problems i think.. When you change ya jetting tell us what size to i know around the world bikes will not run the same but who cares. Car Needle position could be worth playing around with to.

I modified the silencer on mine so it doesnt stick out like these old ones now it looks like a normal shorty on any other bike
