Thanks for showing this, back in 1980 at the age of 15 i had a work experience week with Tyne and Wear transport, now Nexus, anyway I spent a week as a test passenger on the week leading to its opening, my job was to go with a team and check each station and its signage, I spent a week travelling on the metro before it was in public use and I attended the Royal open and can be seen in the background during queen Elizabeths official opening. I have a soft spot for the metro and have an attachment to the original metros. I popped along to the Lowfell yard last weekend as that is where the new metro waiting out the final part of its journey. Thanks for sharing this video.

The Tyne and Wear Metro Class 555 will be amazing to see once they have entered service next year.

So it seems gone are the days of unique locos, like the 2nd generatron of EMUs. Now they're selected from a catalogue, pre-designed to be moulded to the customer's wish. Is this way better?

I wonder how it got from the mainline to actually being on the metro system

Pelaw Junction. From what I heard of forums is that the class 43s went to the sidings at Pelaw where they met up with Metrocars to then be taken to Gosforth.

I know it spent last weekend at the low fell yard and could be easily seen from the road near Lamesly church.

If you'd seen the other side, apparently it was graffiti'd within hours of entering the country.

It was tagged once on the continent, cleaned, then hit again in Wembley Yard (despite only being there for a couple of hours, and the yard being reasonably well-protected with on-site security). The taggers seem to particularly prize the first train of an order

Thank You. Loved the new sighting but, Tyne and Wear is the cheapest Metro system I've ever been on. Almost every station has no ticket barriers so every journey is FREE! No wonder it makes no money and has asked Central Government for funding. INSALL TICKET BARRIERS! This will monitor passanger demand and improve services

I would say adding guards or ticket inspectors onto trains would be a better idea. It’s cheaper and more intimidating since you can just jump over a barrier

Public services shouldn't extract profit, Terry. They should serve the public.
