When I first saw this specific quilt being cut I was appalled. Period. But then, I realized I could scatter the quilt (which I do own) throughout my house or take it with me! Now that concept I really love. The quilt has all of my fav colors and designs, plus it is already quilted.. What an idea! You rocked this for sure! Thank you ! You have a new and dedicated subscriber. Sewing machine cover, mixer cover, toaster cover, casserole carrier, and a tote for me. Just love it.
Mr. Totten, I hope you realize how much I helped you, lol. I agreed every time you showed me, nodded my head for others & you made me laugh because coming from a family of sewers, if any of us 3 kids got into an argument, my mom would say "PUT A PIN IN IT" tellng us to shut up. Thank you for the entertainment as well as the memories. I believe I will be going to W/M tomorrow to start these for our Christmas dinner. You are my favorite!!!
I enjoyed this video....I made a bucket basket from the pioneer woman collection. Came out great....however I like the store bought quilt a better way to go.. terrific idea Tim- margy
I have just found you! I am 72 and an avid quilter and crafter. I live in Leicester in the UK. Your videos are clear and easy to follow. Thank you. These placemats are wonderful and a great way to use a shop bought bedspread! 😊
My son-in-law bought a used Tesla and it is awesome. By the way my mother had always said your age is only a number, now that I turned 79 the day after Christmas I totally agree, it’s only a number. Belated happy birthday 🎂🎉 Thank you for all of your great ideas 💡
Great idea ! Also great for making some accent pillows / pillow cases. Maybe buying 2 quilts, one for bed one to make accessories, such as accent pillows, window treatment, matching pet bed / basket, coaster for water / drinks during the night etc. Thank you for sharing !
Did ever use all of this quilt for more projects?I thought this was a sensible idea. I buy sheets found at garage sales or thrift stores. Lots of cheap fabric. 😊
I totally enjoy your TH-cam videos. They are interesting, crafty, relatively easy to understand and accomplish, useful and very well detailed/ explained. In 47 days I’ll be 72! You’re just a “baby “. Enjoy your “toy” 😊.
Thank you for the tip on getting base tape to wraparound corners. I am new to sewing, and today, I made a hot pot pad. I wish I had seen this video prior. You made it so much easier to use bias tape.
I remember my great grandmother doing something like this when I was about 4 years old. She was using a treadle machine and a quilt she bought at a garage sale.
This is the first video demo that I have seen that shows this technique for binding. Thank you. I could never figure it out how exactly to do it. I love this idea of using store bought quilts to do placemats. Lots of other possibilities as well.
Dear Mr Totten I have just discovered your channel and am thrilled. You’re going to allow me to have sew much more time to make quilted items this way. I love the placemats and the curling iron pouches....I have a lot of hair. Sincere thanks Sandra 🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦
Very pretty placemat and there is the possibility for plenty more. I like it. Can't wait to see the additional uses for this Wal-Mart bedspread. It sounds like they are all practical and useful. A winner each time. Thank you.
I just came across your channel and I will definitely be watching you more and. That’s is a great idea for making placemats and a lot cheaper to make thanks for sharing
Hi… just came across your channel. I’ve been sewing long that you’re been around… lol. So you’re just a pup! I’m an alteration’s specialist.. mostly bridal & formal wear, but love to repurpose things or just save money. This is a great way to do both!! The color & print,a great choice & like you said, it’s already quilted. I love the sharp corner style but they can be a bugger for newbie sewers… at least many say so. Even though you need bias cut trim, rather than straight edge, slightly rounding the corners might be another option for them. Your idea for a “window” template is a great idea to center & utilize that beautiful print. The placemats will be matching & have a professional look!!! Great job!!
Tim my name is Don today I turned 81 don't feel b ad at45 your still young anyway I love the placemat idea you showed also I just bought a sunbeam iron at target same price when you as many years a s I have you go through alot of irons had to tell you that keep up the great work I like your channel don
I’m glad to find your videos. As another guy who sews. I’m teaching a retired female friend to sew…this will be great for her. I never thought of repurposing a quilt, but I use scratchy poly blankets from thrift shops for my quilt batting.
Thanks Timothy from Australia 🇦🇺 I really appreciate your help and ideas for projects Thanks too for talking with all information. Totally awesome thanks for the inspiration as too love your honesty re making mistakes as I have lost a lot of sewing confidence and love your support that it is ok to make mistakes and they are fixable Beautiful ideas and using other things to make a projects and love your idea of a store brought quilt to make other things with it is so inspiring thanks again for your support and ideas 💡 help thanks Louise much appreciated💙
You probably dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream all the new series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last months xD
@@TwixyNo I got the first King size quilt a couple of summers ago. I loved the paisley. The price was good too.DearHusband and I have a California King size bed. I had to buy another King size and cut a 24 inch section off the one end of the 2nd quilt and sew it onto the original quilt to make it wide enough for our bed. When our bed is made, the side edges are an inch or two from the floor.
Love this idea! Super awesome! I never thought of this quilt idea, but, I did buy some huge Pioneer Woman tablecloths JUST for the massive yardage! My intention is to use to sew aprons, pot holders, place mats etc. For Christmas gifts. Same idea...just a different fabric choice. GMTA! Love your placemats and appliances cozy! TFS!
Love your placemat you made out of a store bought quilt.Love your teaching skills.Im proud of the classmates collecting money for this man. Love you all. What great deed you all did. Ya never know when someone needs help. Shame on the landlord.
That is beautiful fabric! I would round the corners off with a coffee cup so that I wouldn't have to do the corners. That would also be beautiful with a Navy, rose or Burgandy binding. Cool project!!
This is the first video I see of yours. I’m glad I’m not alone in shopping for fabric, I love those colors so I must look for it. Great job. Enjoyed your instruction clear and easy. God bless you

Table runners, table hot matts for service plates (they do not need to be square or rectangular). napkin rings, hot mug coasters, oven mitts and hot pads with a loop. Tea pot cozy or coffee cup/mug cozy, bread or bun basket wrapper. I use scraps too!
Discovered you a few days ago, when one of your videos popped up in my feed. I've been checking out your channel since, this video put me over the top, I sew alot, but never thought to use a bed quilt from Walmart for placemats, very ingenious!! I've made dog & cat quilts for my local shelter from them, just never thought to use them for much anything else. I like your channel content, so therefore, I'm a new subscriber. 😊
Such a fun idea! Placemats, table runner, hot pads, the ideas are endless! I literally said "your hand is blocking the view" right as you put the text up. Looking forward to the next video. Much love from Houston! 💛
Thank you for your great tutorials. Just a thought, you have miles of binding around the edge of the Quilt, a little unpicking and it's ready to use again. :)
What a great idea! I’m going to try this soon. I guess that means I’ll need to invite someone over for dinner to show them off. Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea!
When someone inspires and thinks outside the box, re purposes items, gets a thumbs up. Keep inspiring.
Loved this!!! Thanks!

You could also make a table runner out of the quilt to match placemats
Great idea! Going to look for a Christmas themed quilt😊
Great idea. I never thought of using quilts for placemats. Half the work is already done!
What size of premade quilt are you using?
I've used placemats to make tote bags before, and a clutch bag. At first I thought that he was going to make a quilt out of placemats, lol.

Quilters call that “window” “fussy cutting”. Love all your presentations
Yes, it’s fun to do. Thanks for the kind words.
