      This is an amazing version of this fable. Your dad retelling of this is awesome and timeless.

      I always liked the very folk-like tune that your father sang for this skit.

      I am finding that the performers of these clips or people related to them come out in the TH-cam comments. So interesting. I was just thinking about this song and searched it. A roommate of mine in college told me a French translation of this story once. "The Fox and the Crow" must be a common folk tale.

      This is my favorite segment from sesame street. I am 39 years but I have a memory of sitting down on the floor, eating homemade vanilla ice cream and watching this in preschool. His voice has that storyteller tone to it. He did a wonderful job.

    Too dark and eerie for me when I was 5........I was behind the sofa when the crow went " Baa-karrrk!!" I appreciated it more when I was older.

      Yes, that sound he made scared me, too. But I ended up feeling so sorry for the crow when he was pictured up in the tree with no cheese. He seemed so sad. But it was a good lesson even for adults. You have to be careful of people who charm you into saying and doing things that are against your better judgment.

    On a cold forest oak sat the crow
    With a fine piece of cheese in his beak
    Full of joy was the crow
    With his heel above the snow
    As the cold wind blew softly abound him x2
    Like a flame,came the fox in the forest
    Spied the crow with a smile and a frown
    Said"Hello, handsome crow,
    You are beatiful you know."
    It's a shame you can't sing to your Beauty x2
    Thought the crow
    Handsome bird that I am
    I can sing even more handsome me.
    From his wide open throat
    Came a ice, crackling note
    Baa-kaaack
    And the fox jumped and ran with the cheese x2

    as an adult woman I still remember seeing this on sesame street in the early to mid 80's... from the song, to the colors, the voice ...everything is so ...dark and tenebrous

    This was so dark and chilling to us kids, but it was always a highlight whenever it was re-shown. Love the way the singer sang "ice-cracking note!" And who else "ba-GAWHH"-ed with the crow at that moment? ALL OF US!!! =D

    It must have been the early 80's in Nigeria, my dad will not fail to refer this note to us about praise singers and all their tricks....Moral of the song, beware of flatterers. What a great line too.

    I did not realize this has been on TH-cam for some time; saw this one many a time, in the 1970s. And yes, very good moral to this fable-never fall for the praise, of a so-called "flatterer"; they may only be trying to "own"or "pawn"you, in some way or another(the way the fox deprives the crow of his cheese, by convincing him he has a great singing voice).

      I was actually thinking about this the other day when a friend on Facebook referenced an old song from Sesame Street. This came to mind and I decided to look for it. I honestly did not think I would find it! So many great memories of kids shows I grew up with on TVOntario, Global, and CBC here in the Greater Toronto Area. Thank you for posting this!

    ShineyRubi ...No. Just no. This is a classic fairytale that may well become the last good-quality short story in forever, and you felt the impulsive need to ruin it with some vain silly meme. Sorry for being so condemning, but you really struck a nerve.

    • @Angelkeyz_aka
      @Angelkeyz_aka 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ^ ...If you believe a meme "ruins" a classic story, then you must believe it not to hold much merit...let that sink in

    • @j1233191
      @j1233191 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ShineyRubi No. It hasn't sunk in at all. Why? Because I do believe it to hold a lot of merit. Don't get tricked by flatterers. That's something those relationship amateurs desperately need to learn. It's a great moral. That meme you mentioned was not in any way related to the story and came from some jumped-up music video. Any different from Ancient Greece, where this tale possibly came from? YES!! Therefore, that is why I got enraged. The two are incompatible and contain starkly different messages: modern reference humour and a bit of classic humour, basic plot and a lesson. Fox meme: no basis in logic. Fox story: some basis in logic. Now do you understand? And please remember that anyone who looks at the Shrek is Life meme probably wouldn't be able to look at Shrek films the same way either, regardless of how much merit they have. It doesn't matter how much good something is: one drop of arsenic poisons the well.

      +j1233191 You seem like an "injustice collector," one who sees everything around them as an opportunity to be hurt. Don't expect others to respect your love for something. Like what you like and ignore what you don't. Everyone's got an opinion, and most won't line up with yours. Those who don't learn this are bound for a life of frustration and misery.
