The boy is not gifted. The term gifted is a joke. This is a boy who is extremely blessed to have parents that put him on such a splendid path. He didn’t solve problems fresh out the womb. He was taught probably in such a way that positively reinforced his solving skills which we all possess, only fueling the satisfaction he gets from solving the next. Truly is wonderful to see such a young child be so smart. But given the perfect circumstances, little Einsteins like this are born.

I’ve known kids like this as a student and as a teacher. My admiration for his curiosity and his love of explaining what’s he’s doing is very deep and my fears for the ignorance and bullying and emotional distress he may have to endure from others is also very great. The world doesn’t know what to do with people like this. May his genius extend to his emotional growth as well because he will certainly need it.
Unfortunately this kind of thinking about emotional distress, bullying and ignorance held me back in school. I was taking all the 5th grade teacher could throw at me when she called my parents in. She told them that I was consistently doing 7th grade work and they wanted to move me to 7th grade. My parents said No, he'll get picked on. I said "Let's go! They won't pick on me too long when I have the answers they will be looking for." Sadly, I was held back, lost my motivation and never did good in school thereafter. Disappointed in adults is what I learned. Never hold back a child that excels, Never!

When your a math professor at the top math school in the world and there's a 5 year old in front of you better at math than yourself all you can do is smile.
being able to just sit there and keep his mouth shut while the kid is working his way through the puzzle, is awe inspiring. One of my biggest challenges when my son tries to work his way through a challenge: SHUT UP! (that was directed at myself ;-) He isn't anywhere near this kids amazing talent, but he is one smart cookie with a similar eagerness for knowledge and a brain that just about stores everything he sees. Nurturing that is a hell of a challenge to keep your kid inspired yet keep the playfulness of a kid of his age. Great professor, lovely kid. For him, this is just the way he is and what he knows. He isnt aware of his extraordinary talent, even though he registers of course he can't share most of his hobbies with his other friends I suppose, he is just being himself and enjoying himself. Wonder how his parents are. To give him this amount of room to explore, learn and yet to feel a kid at the same time, takes some extraordinary parenting!

The fact that he can solve a complex math problem but can't draw a simple bicycle sketch is a prime example of how each individuals mind is wired differently. In my opinion this is where the American education system needs to be restructured from a general core curriculum program into identifying an individual's strengths in learning at a young age to amplify their abilities during the duration of their education.

I saw an interview many years ago with a child of, I believe, 11 years old who was about to graduate from college. The interviewer asked him what he planned on doing as a career, given his amazing gifts. He said "I'd like to be a game show host."

I knew he was a genius when he drew the skateboard instead of a bike, because he "doesn't know how to draw a bike right now." No hesitation, no reservations, impressive self-awareness but no self- consciousness, only aiming to solve the immediate roadblock and continue.
@dulitha OS if you had someone working with you who clearly understood it and was good at teaching, and you spent 6+ hours on it a week, you'd be surprised by how much you could learn. Math is certainly difficult, but the fact that so few people can properly teach it makes it seem more impossible than it is. You can open almost any book and learn language skills from it, but learning math skills is a long and winding road

This child was so delighted to be given a problem, he’s got an incredible mind, such a joy in learning. Square roots at 5 😊… he sounds like he’s teaching the teacher. Adorable.
The process of structuring and solving the problem seems more joyful to the kid than solving the problem itself. This tendency will actually help him greatly in life in many ways. He’s likely to be the type that will think deeply and derive new concepts from scratch rather than lean on cookie cutter solutions for the sake of efficiency. That’s why he erased the formula in the beginning. The formula itself was presumptuous and a leading question that may have constrained his problem solving ability to begin with. He needed to free himself from that.
I like that method better. Teach someone how to figure out the answer themselves vs having to stick with the script. Teacher gives you an X for coming up with the correct answer when its correct. I do get it though. They want to avoid instilling bad habits before the start. My 9 year old cousin is nowhere near this kid. I'm watching this kid solve math problems way ahead of his class/age, and my cousin can't figure out how to get a dog to eat a treat from his hand.

all it takes to solve the problem that he was given is basic differentiation.He chose to take unnecessary steps(like using the formal limit definition of the derivative instead of the power rule), when in reality the problem can be solved in less than a minute.He should've set p(t) equal to 20 to find the time at which his displacement was 20 miles, differentiate p(t),plug in said time, and that was it,he still would've gotten 32.6...mph.

I can't stop smiling. I simply love this kid! He's more entertaining than anything I've seen in many years. His math skills are far beyond mine, and I'd love to learn from him. I'm a psychologist (Ph.D.) and I'd love to administer the WISC with him (IQ test). Just to watch and experience his mind at work!
His process is so accurate and mythodical like a human textbook. The detail, clarity of his explinations (especially for maths) is more clear than most teachers. It's not that he will become one of the best teachers. He already is.
At 5, this is pure genius! He brought to play his understanding of mathematics from the rudiments through to advance maths. Hats off to whoever brought him this far in such a short time of his life!

Astonishing! When i see young gifted prodigies like this little guy I always think of Mozart. You know Beethoven was a genius as well, but he made mistakes. He was known to rip up entire scores, or scribble out notes and start over because he somehow knew that they weren't perfect. He was definitely a sort of refining type genius. Young Mozart, on the other hand, almost never made mistakes. It's as if he was channeling the universe. And more shocking still was the speed at which he did it.

It indicates he's pushing his limits, and appears to be very comfortable in this learning environment. The cough and slight fidgeting are hints to his internal state of excitement. This was amazing to watch.
@@DevasKnight Piaget was a developmental psychologist(more than that but that's what he's most known for). I would go with his reputedly backed and refined theories, stages, and phenomena over the quite possible sore throat from coughing. I had a blinking tick when I was his age but I'm not a mathematical genius of course so I had different challenges. This was recorded by my kindergarten teachers.

For example, if a 30 year old male goes to a doctor and says he has a sore throat, headache and a possible fever my first thoughts are going to be a flu, a cold or if it's today's environment covid. I'm not going to think of a parasite, tic borne illness, malaria or tuberculosis until I rule out more common reasonable causes.

When challenged properly in a state of "flow" the tic may occur, be it cough, throat clear, blinking, or a sniffle. These are extreme in cases like Tourettes Syndrome.

You can be shit at math, but be very good at writing and speaking. Vice versa, you can be great at math and a natural at problem solving, but really struggle with writing and verbal communication. There is no singular type of intelligence that is the end all be all predictor of how intelligent someone is.

His father claims at 6 months old, he was speaking in full sentences. He also claims that at 2 years old he was solving complex math problems, without any math instruction on how to do so. There are things in this universe that we just don't understand. If you believe in reincarnation, and somehow being able to remember your past lives, maybe there is something to reincarnation. How else do you explain this childs phenomenal gifts.
Talent is definitely a real thing, but there are more of these precocious kids than you’d think. You can tell from his vocab he is receiving a LOT of tuition in math

He’s incredible. He knows where it’s all going when he says “watch this” and “this is not the real answer”. A five year old being able to get 13.33 from 40/3 would have been impressive enough.
for me, the amazement starts when he doesn't ask the teacher to repeat the problem. He just listen once and can already starts digging in the solution. The kid is a genius.

The look on this teacher’s face is one of love (of learning) and pride (in teaching, in the amazing view of watching wisdom passed on into a new generation). It’s a beautiful thing to witness. {Albeit hard because this kid knew more about math at likely age 2 1/2 than I know as an adult middle aged human with 2 children of my own! Please send help!!} The boy keeps clearing his throat, and it sometimes feels weird. I wonder if there’s something going on there, psychologically…? I only mention it because I do the same constantly, I think due to allergies, but I sense it’s annoying to others, etc. but it’s been a weird constant with me. It took me awhile to catch on, but something clicked with my own neuroses. Is there a reason? Just curious. What a special and amazing child. Simply brilliant. Same to be said for the teacher.
His neural connections are unreal. He seems to have memorized all the rules and processes, which is impressive enough, but he then so effortlessly combines problem solving with rules to figure everything out. Little man straight up UNDERSTANDS how this all works on a fundamental level
It’s not memorization. It’s a true understanding of math and the physical properties of nature it explains. And he understands this at a level that is unattainable by most people. He looks at a problem and actually sees the solution in the language of mathematics as clearly as any of us see a series of letters (sentences) and see their meaning.

This really warms my heart. I’m a physics graduate and I love seeing kids with interest in math and science. You can really tell he just absorbed everything his teacher taught him. Little genius!
I'm a mechanical engineer graduate who got my degree in my late 30s. I salute you and others who actively enjoy working the more complex mathmatics and sciences. I earned Cs in Physics I and II and I'm more proud of those than the As and Bs I got in Differential equations and all the Calc. classes I took. I'm convinced math is the God language because its literally in EVERYTHING 😆

I was a student of science, this is impossible what he is doing in this age. Fortunately he is in America..he is going to get proper nursing. Praying to Allah may his talent be used positively otherwise humankind may fall in big trouble again..
The kid is taught math one to one. That speaks volumes. The other thing is, math language is very natural to him, which tells me his parents are very much involved in math and sciences. Definitely he is gifted!
I don't know... fun fact is, a lot of those famous genius guys were also ladysman because they had really great argumentative skills, cultural knolage and social skills due to a better world understanding. So they had a lot what to talk about with girls but still they were interested in many subjects of cientific importance.
I admired this kids and I am amazed how God gave him amazing brain to understand what he is doing. I don’t understand math when I was in high school. I watched him speaking in a graduation ceremony and he says that teachers don’t explain properly Mathe to the students. I absolutely agree with him.

I will agree and take your analysis a few steps further and say that upon seeing the first equation, it was solved instantly in his head. I think that's why he quickly erased the equation because he himself, had no idea how much space on that board he was going to need. I believe his issue (not that he has one) is that his ability to communicate proofs are ticking just a few steps behind.

The boy is not gifted. The term gifted is a joke. This is a boy who is extremely blessed to have parents that put him on such a splendid path. He didn’t solve problems fresh out the womb. He was taught probably in such a way that positively reinforced his solving skills which we all possess, only fueling the satisfaction he gets from solving the next. Truly is wonderful to see such a young child be so smart. But given the perfect circumstances, little Einsteins like this are born.

I’ve known kids like this as a student and as a teacher. My admiration for his curiosity and his love of explaining what’s he’s doing is very deep and my fears for the ignorance and bullying and emotional distress he may have to endure from others is also very great. The world doesn’t know what to do with people like this. May his genius extend to his emotional growth as well because he will certainly need it.
Unfortunately this kind of thinking about emotional distress, bullying and ignorance held me back in school. I was taking all the 5th grade teacher could throw at me when she called my parents in. She told them that I was consistently doing 7th grade work and they wanted to move me to 7th grade. My parents said No, he'll get picked on. I said "Let's go! They won't pick on me too long when I have the answers they will be looking for." Sadly, I was held back, lost my motivation and never did good in school thereafter. Disappointed in adults is what I learned. Never hold back a child that excels, Never!

When your a math professor at the top math school in the world and there's a 5 year old in front of you better at math than yourself all you can do is smile.
being able to just sit there and keep his mouth shut while the kid is working his way through the puzzle, is awe inspiring. One of my biggest challenges when my son tries to work his way through a challenge: SHUT UP! (that was directed at myself ;-) He isn't anywhere near this kids amazing talent, but he is one smart cookie with a similar eagerness for knowledge and a brain that just about stores everything he sees. Nurturing that is a hell of a challenge to keep your kid inspired yet keep the playfulness of a kid of his age.
Great professor, lovely kid. For him, this is just the way he is and what he knows. He isnt aware of his extraordinary talent, even though he registers of course he can't share most of his hobbies with his other friends I suppose, he is just being himself and enjoying himself.

Whoever taught him was fantastic. It take patience, trust, and love. Kid is well adjusted and very capable.
The fact that he can solve a complex math problem but can't draw a simple bicycle sketch is a prime example of how each individuals mind is wired differently. In my opinion this is where the American education system needs to be restructured from a general core curriculum program into identifying an individual's strengths in learning at a young age to amplify their abilities during the duration of their education.

if you had someone working with you who clearly understood it and was good at teaching, and you spent 6+ hours on it a week, you'd be surprised by how much you could learn. Math is certainly difficult, but the fact that so few people can properly teach it makes it seem more impossible than it is. You can open almost any book and learn language skills from it, but learning math skills is a long and winding road

The process of structuring and solving the problem seems more joyful to the kid than solving the problem itself. This tendency will actually help him greatly in life in many ways. He’s likely to be the type that will think deeply and derive new concepts from scratch rather than lean on cookie cutter solutions for the sake of efficiency. That’s why he erased the formula in the beginning. The formula itself was presumptuous and a leading question that may have constrained his problem solving ability to begin with. He needed to free himself from that.
I like that method better. Teach someone how to figure out the answer themselves vs having to stick with the script. Teacher gives you an X for coming up with the correct answer when its correct. I do get it though. They want to avoid instilling bad habits before the start. My 9 year old cousin is nowhere near this kid. I'm watching this kid solve math problems way ahead of his class/age, and my cousin can't figure out how to get a dog to eat a treat from his hand.

all it takes to solve the problem that he was given is basic differentiation.He chose to take unnecessary steps(like using the formal limit definition of the derivative instead of the power rule), when in reality the problem can be solved in less than a minute.He should've set p(t) equal to 20 to find the time at which his displacement was 20 miles, differentiate p(t),plug in said time, and that was it,he still would've gotten 32.6...mph.

His process is so accurate and mythodical like a human textbook. The detail, clarity of his explinations (especially for maths) is more clear than most teachers.

Astonishing! When i see young gifted prodigies like this little guy I always think of Mozart. You know Beethoven was a genius as well, but he made mistakes. He was known to rip up entire scores, or scribble out notes and start over because he somehow knew that they weren't perfect. He was definitely a sort of refining type genius. Young Mozart, on the other hand, almost never made mistakes. It's as if he was channeling the universe. And more shocking still was the speed at which he did it.

@@DevasKnight Piaget was a developmental psychologist(more than that but that's what he's most known for). I would go with his reputedly backed and refined theories, stages, and phenomena over the quite possible sore throat from coughing.
I had a blinking tick when I was his age but I'm not a mathematical genius of course so I had different challenges. This was recorded by my kindergarten teachers.
@@angelus4620 while I don't dismiss the possibility, the fact that it clears out later in the video and his other videos do not show this indicates a more common cause. For example, if a 30 year old male goes to a doctor and says he has a sore throat, headache and a possible fever my first thoughts are going to be a flu, a cold or if it's today's environment covid. I'm not going to think of a parasite, tic borne illness, malaria or tuberculosis until I rule out more common reasonable causes.

When challenged properly in a state of "flow" the tic may occur, be it cough, throat clear, blinking, or a sniffle. These are extreme in cases like Tourettes Syndrome.

@@greengoblin9567 just because someone struggles with math doesn’t mean they’re dumb… math only tests one aspect of intelligence, which as you should know, there are many forms of intelligence… lacking in one area doesn’t mean you are dumb lol. You can be shit at math, but be very good at writing and speaking. Vice versa, you can be great at math and a natural at problem solving, but really struggle with writing and verbal communication. There is no singular type of intelligence that is the end all be all predictor of how intelligent someone is.

His father claims at 6 months old, he was speaking in full sentences. He also claims that at 2 years old he was solving complex math problems, without any math instruction on how to do so. There are things in this universe that we just don't understand. If you believe in reincarnation, and somehow being able to remember your past lives, maybe there is something to reincarnation. How else do you explain this childs phenomenal gifts.

He’s incredible. He knows where it’s all going when he says “watch this” and “this is not the real answer”. A five year old being able to get 13.33 from 40/3 would have been impressive enough.
A part from solving the problems, it is also very amazing how he can clearly explain his logic while solving them.
It's as if he was the own exercise maker
for me, the amazement starts when he doesn't ask the teacher to repeat the problem. He just listen once and can already starts digging in the solution. The kid is a genius.

The boy keeps clearing his throat, and it sometimes feels weird. I wonder if there’s something going on there, psychologically…? I only mention it because I do the same constantly, I think due to allergies, but I sense it’s annoying to others, etc. but it’s been a weird constant with me. His neural connections are unreal. He seems to have memorized all the rules and processes, which is impressive enough, but he then so effortlessly combines problem solving with rules to figure everything out. Little man straight up UNDERSTANDS how this all works on a fundamental level
It’s not memorization. It’s a true understanding of math and the physical properties of nature it explains. And he understands this at a level that is unattainable by most people. He looks at a problem and actually sees the solution in the language of mathematics as clearly as any of us see a series of letters (sentences) and see their meaning.

I'm a mechanical engineer graduate who got my degree in my late 30s. I salute you and others who actively enjoy working the more complex mathmatics and sciences. I earned Cs in Physics I and II and I'm more proud of those than the As and Bs I got in Differential equations and all the Calc. classes I took. I'm convinced math is the God language because its literally in EVERYTHING 😆

I don’t understand math when I was in high school. I watched him speaking in a graduation ceremony and he says that teachers don’t explain properly Mathe to the students. I absolutely agree with him.

I will agree and take your analysis a few steps further and say that upon seeing the first equation, it was solved instantly in his head. I think that's why he quickly erased the equation because he himself, had no idea how much space on that board he was going to need.
