    One of the best teachers on youtube hands down, very practical, fun and patient in his teaching method. I also like that he comes across as just a regular guy who learnt to be a great player and is willing to show everyone that most of us can do it if we are willing to put in the time

    I watched this over and over, I don’t know, 3 months ago and I’ve focused on this everyday along with my other practice routines. I can easily play it at 105. Thanks, and I will probably use this forever. I would probably say it took a good three months to get it to this point. I don’t know if that is a fast or slow, but I’ve enjoyed playing it. It’s interesting how the brain measures difficulty, when I first saw you do this I thought wow this is difficult guitar playing. Now that I have it in my head, it’s pretty simple. As an older player who really didn’t start practicing hard every day until I was 52, I know I’m much more focused and dedicated than I was a 15 when I first picked up the guitar.
    Thanks again

    Synchronze the triples on ONE string first, or you'll never get where he is. Then do it on two strings with skips. Minimize pick movement. Hold the pick right. Know your e-minor scale across the board. There are MANY more secrets to doing such runs, than included in the video.
    But it's still full of great advice, that's for sure.

    • @underaglassmoon6056
      @underaglassmoon6056 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is that what worked for you ? Im staring by three notes on a single string to get synchronization.

    • @souflikar6702
      @souflikar6702 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anno Nühm - I’m trying to understand why is he doing an upstroke on the second string when doing triplets? Ascending triplet strokes are: down, up, down.....then down again on first note of second string. That upstroke makes no sense.

Your empathetic approach to teaching is a true testimonial of a teacher that will leave know-one behind. If anyone has any complaints about your teaching techniques, they need to pay $40.0, for that teaching video Yngwie Malmsteen made when he was your age, and left everyone in the dust and didn't give a shit; if you got it or not. Claus, you oversimplify the concept of longer sequences of notes played on one string before string changes. It's not the quantity of notes, it what stroke direction you end on that prepares you for the next string change. This can be down or up stroke, inside or outside and depends predominantly on you pick slanting or tilt preference. Most player find 3-3-3-3-3-3 sequence awkward because they haven't worked out how to adjust pick slant or tilt to accommodate this. Also there are solutions for picking across string which are more common than not, including a legato pull off or hammer on which allow you to force the stroke that mechanically makes better sense for the impending string change and also sweeping/economy movements which can provide an alternative solution. ie the strategy is more than just playing more notes. In fact in the improv section of the intro licks, I can see you subconsciously do legato correction. I like your video though and it's a cool sequence you demonstrate.

      I'm REALLY up the hill here: First of all I'm a bassplayer ... second I'm lefthanded!
      But hours and hours ... and you will get somewhere!

    • @Soloist1983
      @Soloist1983 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be careful with this kind of stuff, you can waste YEARS doing exercises like this for hours and hours a day with almost no results, hence why trouble with alternate picking is THE biggest complaint amongst guitar players. I am not saying these exercises aren't great but it's best to start with Troy Grady's "Cracking the Code", get those ideas in your head before getting into alternate picking. This and countless other videos assume you are using a mechanic that can generate these results. Truth is that most people will "stringhop" when doing this and literally never be able to break 130/140bpm @ 16th notes because they haven't worked out how to mitigate the string hopping, and efficiently make the string changes. A lot of people just keep thinking they will get there by pushing through, that rarely happens, and actually is a fast track to getting a repetitive strain injury, it simply does not come together like magic...for most people this does not work at all w/o first solving the problem of changing strings effectively. That being said, does it take lots of time to develop, yes, though at least you have a fighting chance if you go in with more information on making the string changes, otherwise you are almost guaranteed to spend a decade or more doing these exercises over and over without really "getting there".

      I’ve been playing for years and wish I had known some of these speed and timing drills years ago. Some of you who say this is a waste of time in your case it may be. I would argue that if you can play fast and accurate then you play the slower stuff even stronger with even more embellishment in your guitar solos. Have fun and don’t be lazy. In all human activities you get out of something what you put into it. That’s a rule that cannot be broken in order to achieve greatness.

    I've got a question for you. Love the idea of a "exercise loop". I went from not being able to do your first example, to getting it up to 110BPM in a few hours. How quickly should I keep incrementing the speeds? There are two schools of thought - play it slow for weeks, or just try and get as fast and accurate as you can as quickly as you can. Thanks for the video.

    Tx. for the video & lesson. I have a question. Using the first loop as the example: when picking down, up, down on the 12, 14, 16 frets of the D string how vital is it to make your next pick be an Upstroke when starting on the G string with 12? I have a tendency to want to continue the down pick from the 16th fret D to the 12th fret G. It just seems more natural even though I am breaking the Down, Up, Down sequence. Thoughts? Thank You in advance!

    Man this is fantastic! I m working hard on alternate picking and I found this very useful!
    Just a question about the timing: do you play this lick in triplets when you study with the metronome?

    • @doubop
      @doubop 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Samuele Marchi hi dude you should try both in triplets and in quarter,because the note on the beat will change. also you can get the both sensation and you won't ne perturbate when you change your debit

    Hi Claus , thanks for this really detailed Video. Im working my ass off to get it up to Speed and thanks to you i guess i found a crucial mistake within my Playing, but im Not sure at all
    Im used to Playing 3 notes which are whole steps apart each with index, ring and pinky instead of using the middle finger. Do you think this is an obstacle for Building up Speed? Regards, eno

    I CANNOT get my ring finger to execute that cleanly at such fast speeds...
