Beautiful C8, some really good info here. I like that you mentioned the psi on the oil filter many are unaware of this important factor when selecting an oil filter. The previous Gen C7, and the Gen 6 Camaro with the LT1 recommend the same Dexos R Supercar oil and require even more of it at 10 quarts. Some on TH-cam will say Dexos is a GM scam just to make additional profits through Mobil 1 and will tell you there are better and less expensive oils you should be using... If you have a vehicle of this caliber/performance level don't cheap out on the oil, especially while under factory warranty.
I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for your input. It can make a big difference. While I’m not a trained mechanic, I understand physics and mechanical engineering. I agree, oil is not the place to save a few bucks.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette IF a C8 Corvette is STILL under warranty shouldn't the oil and ALL Maintenace be performed at a certified GM Dealer for warranty purposes?
@@vthomas2313 for the 7500 mile service yes. I spoke with a service writer who said it should be done within 500 more or 500 less than 7500. I was also told to have it done BEFORE you hit 7500. Gonna make my apt soon, as I am nearing 6800 miles
@jameswhetstone7588 you are correct Dexos is GM/ General Motors certification that the oil you’re purchasing meets or exceeds GMs specified requirements. Each dexos certification is a different rating for different types of engines, I’m pretty sure Dexos 2 is for turbocharged engines but can be used in non turbocharged engines but yes this also means that Dexos 2 has certain additives that are best for turbocharged engines like carbon/ oil deposit conditioners. This guy in the video has no clue what he’s talking about and it’s very obvious lol do more research before you make a video like this misleading people. ASE certified technician here ✋
@@straightgass4204 I may be a bit clueless, but learning as I go, and helping others along the way. Thanks for your input. Technically I was correct to a degree about the additives. I don’t claim to be a certified mechanic like yourself, but trying to help others like myself. All the best to ya.
You should also look at the API service spec for an oil that has a low vaporization point as you have a GDI engine and that will have less oil vapour in the PCV system. I will have to check if this consideration is in the Dexos qualification. GF-6
Dexos is a motor oil specification developed by General Motors (GM) for use in their vehicles. It is a performance-based standard that specifies the quality and performance requirements for engine oils used in GM vehicles. Trust the science.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette I've heard that you MUST change the oil at 7500 miles and at ALL of GM's required intervals regardless of it being changed at an earlier mileage: If not, GM COULD VOID, your warranty if your engine has a problem.🤷♂🤷♂

I owned 4 corvettes since 1991, you can put any good oil in and they will run just fine. I never have any engine problem.
@vthomas2313 no dealership will check that when you take your vehicle for warranty work. I own multiple new vehicles since 1978.

Me too. Happy to help. We are a community and we can all contribute.
Can't even find a Mobil 1 M1-114A oil filter on Amazon. They are listing the 113A as the correct filter
Found one at Advance Auto
Yes. It is listed incorrectly. You will want to find the 114A
That’s where I found mine. They had the 113 listed, but we figured out the 144a was actually the correct one.
Dexos is not a series of additives. It’s a certification that the oil meets the Dexos requirements.
That’s what I thought too. Then I read it has to do with additives for improved emissions. Thanks for helping to clarify.
