Nothing like Home 🏡 East or west: home is the Best! But in India 🇮🇳 environmental toxins in food, water, air and soil are alarming! Corruption is endemic! Your video title gives the impression that a person in a FANG company (or any particular company) earns INR 5L in India and the same person in the same company and role earns INR 1.5 cr in US :) :). One of the questions you asked, "people in India feel like it is better and people are rich who are outside," is partly influenced by such videos with such titles. There are some good points in the video, like all your videos. Shankey is always a fun and humble person to listen to. His thoughts are very rational. Both countries are great, both have great prospects and careers, and different trade-offs. You can build a career and life in any place if you are skilled; opportunities will come sooner or later . As Shankey said, come to the US (or any country for that matter) for a couple of years and see it for yourself. If any parents or anyone define success by just seeing someone in the US or outside India, then God bless you; you are in a disastrous illusion that will break someday in your life (but it might be too late to realize). I came to the US 2 years ago, having spent my whole life in India, and I work at a so-called FANG company. My advice to anyone is, don't judge based on others' footsteps. We recently hired a few people in our team; in the US (in Virginia), we offered around $220K, and for the same role, same team, same company, same grade, we offered INR 1.25 cr to someone in India (a virtual role, he can work from anywhere, although the base location was Bangalore). Imagine how you can lead your life in Bangalore with 1.25 cr and $220K in Virginia. Both are great compensation in decent cities. But when you compare to make some decisions, especially from a compensation/income standpoint, think a little more rationally (don't include climate, quality of life, etc., as those have no comparison. If that's the only thing you care about, you should be fine for even $40K USD, as it's available for everyone for free :) ) Aspire to gain skills to the extent that people come after you to hire; you pick the country, you pick the city of your choice at any point in time of ur life. Don't spend your life questioning and thinking about your existence in a country by continuously discussing H1B/GC/citizenship/etc. You have better things to do, especially when you are between 20 and 40 years of age.
Sure, work/life balance largely depends on the team we are working for. For example, for me, in my present company, it’s the same as when I was in India and now in the US. To some extent, it is more or less independent of the company. Culture is surely a little different. In India, if you are working for a local/APJ team, and after moving to the US/EMEA, you are working with a US/EMEA-specific team, then work/life balance would surely be different. For me at least, it’s the same. I was part of a global team, so it didn’t affect me. In fact, I can do the same thing from India that I am doing here :) But that’s very much my experience with my present company. Overall, work/life balance is something everyone should consider, and selecting a country is just one thing on the checklist (surely not everything). But a few things I never thought I would do, like fixing my furniture, walking 10-15 minutes to drop the trash, picking up my parcels from the society office, and driving 3-4 miles to return anything. When I was in India, everything was just a call away :) Cooking and doing every damn thing on this planet on my own. On the other hand, I don’t clean my car weekly like I used to do when I was in Bangalore. There’s no pollution, and even the smallest things are available on Amazon. For example, if I have to host a party for my kid’s birthday, I just search "Kids birthday party return gifts for 30 kids," and I get a ready-made pack. In India, I generally had to order multiple things separately and pack them for each kid. It’s all about what we want from life; there is always a trade-off. Coming to the US and saying, "I have everything now (salary, work-life balance, comfort, growth, etc.)" is very much 1990s/early 2000s.
Hi suman14san, Just wanted to know that how common or easy is it to get that 220k vs 1.5cr salary in both the countries because I still feel that remote jobs offering 1.5cr in India are there but limited in amount, as compared to 220k in US. As a MBA grad in US you can think of making 150k (base pay) and if you include other components then it can go up to 180k (on average, don't quote me )
@@souravpanda1488 Its as common or easy to get a job X in a Y company, irrespective of the country. My point is not on easy/hard/common or uncommon. My point was, if I am getting 220K in my company in US, i should ideally check what that same company offers for the same grade/level in India, that would actually give nice baseline. If anyone feels getting a job is easy in than in India, thats again another level of illusion people might have. In US based on my experience, survival is cheap, one can survive, 100s of odd jobs, somehow one can survive. But richness is expensive. In India, survival is hard, not everyone earn 10K per month, but richness is relatively easy, anyone who can earn 30-50L per year can live an above avg life. Again this is my personal exp, i have not stayed in US for long, its just 2 years. But I feel in general, people make wrong comparison most of the time which surface their happiness :) [I do the same like others as well :) ]
