This was arranged by Geoff. He started this back in August. They were planning on releasing this one for their October collaboration. J. None was scheduled to have leave from the Navy but was changed at the last minute. They did try getting some other collaborators but nothing was working. So they put it on hold until December. Everyone is loving having Layne bring out his violin again since Warriors. It fits the song so well. Great reaction!

I missed the metal era but this is outstanding. What a beautiful piece of music. I really like hearing Eli singing in a lower register, then passing it off to J. And not many reactors have commented on Layne’s singing. Geoff is carrying the bass line through the whole first part and Layne’s doesn’t start beatboxing until Geoff starts to sing. And then Violayne! I know I’m not alone in letting out a scream the first time I saw that, and I still have a huge grin on my face every time I see it. (Especially during reactions when I get to see someone else’s astonishment😂)!🎉
Its been fun watching all the reactors break to this song. I broke the first time I heard it too, and I had never even heard this song before (not a metal fan). VioLayne was the icing that finished this off perfectly but Geoff outdid himself with this arrangement and deserves a Grammy.
I had the same reaction to Metallica - oh well it's VoicePlay - it'll be good. NO! It was superb. This morning I got my Echo unit to find the Metallica version to compare. I'll take VoicePlay - took my breath away.
HomeFree and Pentatonix have used instruments in a few of their arrangements as well. Sometimes, 1 🎻can make all of the difference. This was a masterpiece by Geoff. Great job to all of them.
This is one of Geoff’s best arrangements, no doubt. I love it when they tackle this harder stuff, Eli’s voice lends itself so well to it, and of course all of the guys sound great!
I hope Layne is keeping a score card for all the reactors he's clobbered with that stealth violin solo! XD We're all right there with you, man, this was just incredible. ETA: I don't know whether the guys have said one way or the other, but I'm betting they went with all black everything in tribute to Metallica's iconic 'Black Album,' which included this song.
If it makes you feel any better, Qofy just took off his earphones and walked off the set. NOTHING TO SAY. LOL. I noticed Eli straightening his jacket as well. Genius move-if you have a solo coming up, do something like that to draw the eye to you so the audience doesn’t miss a note! #ProTip I love Cesar’s harmonies in this, but I am a little bummed he didn’t get more of a solo. I love his voice (don’t get me wrong-I love all their voices). I love acapella, but I’d be perfectly happy if VioLayne joined us more often. LOL. I’m sure someone’s told you by now Geoff did this arrangement. This is so wonderful-I’d say it’s my favorite by these guys but I say it every time. Great reaction!!
I really think they're going to kill me off this year. I've been speechless with them before, but this time I couldn't get my breath. This is........just wow. VoiLayne is always impressive and his beatboxing is always on point, but when you add in Geoff doing the bass guitar lines it just adds such depth to the whole thing. Eli and his rock god voice was a great choice for lead and J and Cesar holding those amazing harmonies. Perfection. Yep. Gonna kill me this year.

Everyone who loves this (and who doesn't?) needs to go to the Voiceplay channel and view it completely there and like it. We fans want the world to know how awesome this is! This isn't a song that gets old after hearing it 2 or 3 times. It gets better with every listen!
I absolutely love this cover! I figured they wouldn’t disappoint, but I was taken aback, especially when all 5 voices came in with those harmonies. Then Layne shocked me with that violin, which was epic! I kind of wish Cesar would have had a little bit longer solo, but the line he sang gave me chills. I will say that I wasn’t surprised you watched it twice! lol There was so much going on in parts, it’s necessary.
Loved having J.None back! Loved hearing that rock scream right before Layne brought out the violin highlight. This whole song is just full of amazingness! Wish we could have heard a bit more from Cesar, though.

Even more sceptical when I saw VoicePlay & Metallica in the same sentence but boy, this is a testament to Geoffs amazing talent for arranging, and all the guys vocal talents, because this is bloody awesome! I heard or read somewhere (maybe one of the boys said it in a video) that Eli was in a Metallica cover band which I think is why they let him lead most of this song
This song is in it's origin and basics is a true masterpiece, and while it is a Metallica song, it is much bigger than Metallica. There is a reason why it's been covered by symphony orchestras all over the world, the complexity is there. This right here, though, this goes beyond any other version I have ever heard, and there are some magnificent and powerful versions out there. The only thing I don't really like is Geoff feeling the need to go growly on and off. It's cool, sure, but it distracts and isn't necessary. Other than that, absolutely brilliant! Great reaction! Your amazement was moving.

The violin added so much to the crescendo, then fell back to the end. That worked so well.
