i finished the video and I have another tip: use AI properly - read through it and make sure it sounds like your own writing, but more than that, rewrite entire sections if it is inaccurate. just know how to write essays or whatever BEFORE using AI

yea i use ai all of the time for my school work, but i don't just copy everything it says blindly, i just use it when i dont feel like researching and i just use it to help me understand the topic, i can then just rewrite it in my own words and it's done

@@alexkunce2002 yes there definitely are many amazing uses for drugs. Tbh, your viewpoint right now comes from a place of bias, and 99% of the shit that the media says about drugs is false. Some drugs like psychedelics can be very helpful every once in a while. However, certain drugs like some really hard opiates, certain benzos, and prolly meth too, should not be used recreationally imo
for the "get a goofball friend" tip, i would add onto it and get a friend of every type, and try to understand how they are personally and try to choose which qualities you would like to keep with yourself in the future
As a university undergrad senior about to complete his degree, here are a few tips for both high-schoolers and college students: 1. Don't skip studying. School exists to teach you how to learn and build connections. 2. Try things. If you focus on your future goals, you'll realize that knowing what you want is crucial for getting ahead. A lot of employers look for experience. A fancy degree can help, but building your skills is still a top priority. 3. Don't overwork or underwork. If you put in too much effort, you'll burn out and feel like you wasted your time and effort on things that didn't matter in the end. Conversely, putting in little effort results in you getting used to not having to try, which is bad for the times you do have to try. 4. Listen to other people. You can learn a lot from being open-minded and hearing other people's experiences. 5. Prioritize which kinds of trends to pay attention to. Are they relevant to you and your future career, or are they strictly just a social media thing? 6. Drop the ego/learn self-respect. A lot of teenagers think extremely about themselves one way or another. Comparing yourself to others isn't going to help you unless you're doing it only to learn. 7. Learn to be interested in things, even if they bore you. For example, a lot of students hate writing, but it's an important skill in almost every field, so learning to enjoy aspects of things you may not necessarily like at first is how you break out of and expand your comfort zone. 8. Be ready to have your preconceived ideas be obliterated. After high school, you're going to run into people from all walks of life, with different experiences and views. A lot of people learn respect in college because of this. At the same time, realize that it's ok to be different. Don't let social norms hold you down. 9. Be authentic. Trying to be different on purpose is a waste of time, and you're going to end up feeling like an imposter in your own life. The phrase "fake it 'til you make it" is good advice, but only if you intend to actually make it. 10. Discipline yourself. Setting rules for yourself, like sleeping at an appropriate time or remembering when to eat, is something that a lot of us lack until we get well into college. 11. Learn to extract value from things. It doesn't always have to be monetary value, but a lot of the skills or hobbies you may deem as useless or a waste of time can be turned into something healthy. If you can't justify doing it, drop it. It's ok to move on and do other things. Branch out. 12. AI is for cowards. Use it, but make sure you also don't need it. Fundamentals are key. 13. Learn to cook. You'll need this one. Trust me.
I read the first tip and already found one I can't abide by lol no, but seriously, I have school trauma from my previous school and idk how I'll get through high school. @@Infact77 For people with cases like you, it's often better to simply just know what is going to be covered in school and just teach it to yourself. The important thing isn't that you excel in school or even go to school - it's that you develop the ability to learn and communicate. However you learn these things is up to you. As for all things trauma-related, the best way to deal with trauma is to replace bad memories with good ones. It requires you to break out of your comfort zone, but that's the requirement for all improvement in general. You shouldn't touch an open wound, but once that wound is sealed, it becomes a scar. Eventually, scars can fade as long as you give them enough time and nourish yourself. Mental scars are the same. They might never go away entirely, but the severity of your reaction to thinking about them can decrease over time. We tend to think the most strongly about things that have recently happened or been on our mind. If you can't take your mind off of something bad, you'll have trouble healing from it because you're essentially touching the wound and not leaving it alone. If you don't know how to heal it, leave it be and let it heal itself. Don't let bad memories prevent you from doing the things you want. Your mental fortitude gets stronger when you are able to trust and believe that things are going to be alright. So the next time you pick up a book, do it for yourself, not for school. It's important to be aware of why you're doing things and for whom you're doing them.
Bro, this is the most helpful video I found for high school students I'm in my last year now with good grades, but sh*tty skills and technique. It kept my anxiety up each semester, and burnout was a prominent struggle. I'm tryna get a good start to build better habits and compete well without sacrificing my health and hobbies. Glad it helped! Honestly I was also insanely introverted when I started high-school, and it took YEARS for me to finally learn how to socialize with people. I would say just don't worry and try to get just a little better each day.
As an introverted person, some tips would be having close friends that will make you get out of your comfort zone and do things you may not have wanted to do before. Also, from my own experience I tend to be more out spoken when I'm with my friends. Also, to get closer to your teachers/administrators don't hesitate to just simply greet them with a "good morning/afternoon/hello/how are you doing?." It'll remind your teachers that you exist, and you will inevitably get to know/chat with them as the school year progresses. Don't make the same mistake as me where I barely spoke to my teachers at all in my freshmen year.
I cannot thank you enough, I’m starting my senior year in hs, and have come to some of these conclusions on my own but unfortunately I never write my thoughts down and just end up complaining about it later. That part you said about if you want to actually understand a subject your interested in you do that later was so real. These tests don’t test you on your understanding rather your ability to recognize the types of questions and familiarity with the narrow scope of topics that they test you on.

Turns out we are the same age, live in a very similar socioeconomic region of California, and have similar perspectives. The one thing I'd say is that the driver's license is super varied depending on location. In suburban California, trust me I know, you can't get anywhere without it, but I have plenty of online friends who didn't consider it being necessary until they were like 22 and out of college entirely. If you live somewhere more urban or in a country with more public transport, even working adults don't have one.
going into senior year this video is actually on the mark, especially with the drivers license and hanging out. Having fun means sooo much more than people think. If I had to pitch in another tip I'd say just straight up cheat even more than you advised. Ik this sounds really bad but honestly I was in some of those homework gc and (might of) seen allegedly many quiz/test early but it lowkey saved me. Not recommending anyone go this hard but just do it with the homework especially and just change up the answers or take turns with friends. Just a huge time saver and you can study for the actually important stuff. also study with your friends.

College Student here, I actually wish someone would have told me these things. I got over a 4.0 GPA but I was never involved in any clubs or administration. I was in it for the grades only, but now that I’m rethinking it getting to know the admin would have been beneficial. Don’t matter if your a freshman or senior it’s never too late to change. ONE MORE THING! Learn REAL TANGIBLE SKILLS. You literally will not get more free time unless you find an oil field and get rich. Learn things that you can apply to many branches of life. This is something I wish I would have done sooner

There is some good advice in here. When it comes to getting to know admins, you might need charisma which some people are not blessed with, but it’s still good advice. The goofy friend advice was really good as well. I would argue that they actually do add very real value that sticks with you for life. It’s rare to have a goofy friend that also has a motivation and determination to do great things, but they exist. I know that for sure.
In the same boat as you, just graduated and leaving for school in around a month. to add credibility to some of these points: I got to know a lot of my teachers, granted I went to a private school, and a lot of them were genuinely nice and bumped my grade up those few extra points needed. I never needed a calendar for my high school years, however I have quickly adopted one as it genuinely makes your day planning so much more efficient and effective, and reduces overlapping events. A strategy that worked for me with tests is to take note of all the hard problems as you go through the unit (this applies to more than just math, really any subject works) and create a study guide/practice test of those questions. After that test, if you still miss any of those concepts, just relearn them and you should be set for the actual test. On the topic of goofy friends, I will say they genuinely make the school experience much more fun. Being able to reliably hang out with someone who can just make anything and everything fun really helps keep things interesting. And there's nothing wrong with being the goofy friend either. To add to the 10 awesome points you gave, I will mention the drama side of high school: High school drama is worthless. Anything you hear or are a part of will literally not matter once you graduate. So, if there's anything that you think might haunt you for the rest of your life, or if there's just something that bothers you, it wont matter when high school is over. Lastly, if you aren't the enemy of everyone in your grade, try and have the most fun possible with them, especially in your senior year. This is the last year you will all be at the same place at the same time, and (at least to me) that's something you should make the most of. You might run into these people later in life, and it always help to have good relations with someone. Sorry for the wall of text, just thought I'd share my input adding on to the points made in the video :)
I highly stress the "get to know your administrators" tip. In fact, I recommend building and maintaining a good relationship with as many school officials and staff as possible, because you can singlehandedly put your school on the map by winning the biggest physics competition in your province for the first time ever, bring home several medals for badminton, top every single waterloo math/cs competition throughout your high school career, and even go to the International Chemistry Olympiad, the first participant from your district, let alone your school, and STILL lose valedictorian (which is elected by school staff in some places) to the student council president even though everyone knows she didn't do jack****, plays an irrelevant sport, and distracts literally everyone in every single stem class by asking the most basic, worthless, trivial questions possible every 2 minutes, just because her family's cozy with the school board.
Knowing school admins and getting to know your guidance councilor more personally is a major success moment for sure. I was able to switch out of classes with bad teachers, get a better overall schedule, and have had more success getting into the classes I want because I was friendly and knew the people in charge of those kinds of things.
European transportation is very nice for sure. I would kill for an actual working subway or metro system in my city. Instead its all just cars. This tip is definitely only for American's.
@@HotslicerYeah I live in the Netherlands and literally everyone rides their bike to school. It's only a 5 min ride for me and if something is too far we just take the train (but you kinda never need to bc everything the Netherlands is just so close together )
Yes but I live in a Muricanized smaller city in europe car is better to have in certain situation, ecpecially in winter, if I bicycle there, the journey is painful though not daily, weekly? I though mainly use public transport because the distance I move daily and going there by car is unnececeary and causes bad rust problems overtime to older cars There is tho a far superior city near where most my age peers go, lotsa places to go to and will never fail to find stuff to do I would love to move there with my career
I’m going into my senior year, and I can 100% that calendars are really useful. I’m in a lot of stuff and it is CRUCIAL to understand time management if you don’t want to flounder
This is all useful advice, but a few notes: some schools rely much more heavily on the textbook verbatim, it gets less reliant as you go further but my experience in 9th grade was that many of the "advanced" classes asked for stuff from the specific textbook and youtube wasn't that reliable as it has more general knowledge. I agree that if there is a class in which you are doing really poorly in then you should cheat, but do it well, don't get caught, if a teacher is suspicious then don't cheat, you can recover from one bad test grade, though it is a slippery slope, don't cheat in ALL your classes, maybe just one.

The only thing im proud of now is that I use a youtube mod which turns of yt shorts and instagram mod that doesnt have reels and story , its only for chatting. Been doing this for 6 months now and tbh I can feel the different of not scrolling brainrot after school.
Yes I also use that extension! Sooo helpful, because I think shorts are the main addictive thing with TH-cam, not really longform. Most longforms I watch are either genuinely really entertaining or educational
As a senior in college, everything he said is incredibly useful and I wish I had seen something like this before high school. Making a calendar and talking to administrators seems overkill but trust its great advice and if you follow this video you will go FAR.
Here’s a very valuable one: avoid anything addicting. Smoking, Porn, Drugs, just don’t. If you’re gonna do anything at a party make sure it’s weed or edibles. Nothing else.
I watched this in August and when school started I made a calendar. It kinda changed my life, I am now 10x more organised, best decision, thank you so much :) P. S. Also, I started watching TH-cam videos about subjects now, and it has helped me very much, so that's very valuable too

Yo deadass starting highschool soon and all other videos were just copy and pasted same tips. (I.E: Study alot, join clubs, make the teachers your friends) but this video had some real tips that I will def use. Thanks alot, you might have just changed my whole life for the better.
That calendar one is actually really nice. I did a similar thing on my most recent SAT, using the programs section to comment in a bunch of notes. My score improved by 110 points. And the best part? It doesn’t technically violate any of the official SAT rules. What I did, according to college board, is NOT cheating. Its a clever utilization of the resources they give you. They say the TI-84 is approved on the math section, and they never give you any specifics on what parts of the TI-84 are approved and which ones arent. The entire functionality of the device is available to you, so use it.

Class of 2023 here. Id add another tip about getting into relationships. I've seen a lot of relationships around me come and go. Some of which me and my friends thought would last forever but we were wrong. Its highly likely that you will break up so Its not worth it imo, especially if you have a lot going on. I get that people want to get experience which is totally okay. Just dont let it become a distraction. Relationships are supposed to be an addition, not take way. If you have a large friend group, best case scenario is that you learn from the relationships happening around you and wait till college or after. The dating landscape is the worst its ever been now that social media is such a big thing but whichever way you go, please be safe 🙏🏿
That's excellent advice and I can vouch. 95% of people I know who dated came out of it with regret. I think you need to build yourself and become really confident in your own skin during high school, then think about dating.
the one about school administrators can apply for teachers as well because even though they don't have as much power they can still vouch for you if you get in trouble and can reduce your punishment at least 2 fold. Also help your teachers if you have time because when i helped organize a quiz type event with my literature teacher and some friends after that he would give us keys to classrooms or any space in the school and would sometimes even vouch for us for some of our grades in other classes which boosted our grades by at least 5% (it's worth knowing anyone)
pro tip: at the start of school years if you wanna get to know more people give yourself a sidequest to introduce yourself to all the people in your classes. also being able to say that that's what you're trying to do when walking up to someone gives you an easy default thing to say and a way to start the conversation without being too awkward

Tip #2 is basically pqrst. The most important parts of pqrst are summarizing (which is why TH-cam is your friend) and testing (self testing is one of the best test prep methods). Good stuff here
doing what I can for the algorithm since this video came at the perfect time in my life. about 75% of the points don't apply to me because I take online classes, but it's still extremely important, and I can show it to my niece and nephew when they start high school as well.

Tip: If your town or city has a good public transit system, you can use that instead of the car. Example: Vancouver, Canada's TransLink. Buses to EVERYWHERE. If you can get to an event with public transit, get there using it. Better than finding a parking space for 15 minutes.

dudeeee i so agree with ur points as a girl who just started her junior year a week ago. guys, note that if youre not able to form a relationship with school admin, definitely form relationships with your teachers. i had an extremely strict teacher with a soft spot for me and she would correct my test answers before i officially submitted them, looked the other way when i used my apple watch and airpods in class (electronics are prohibited at my school), and vouched for me during awards season. on the other hand, i also had a cool teacher who loved mostly everyone but i still did my best to form my own bond with him. he also ended up vouching for me during awards season, got one of his students to tutor me, and allowed me to skip my math class to stay in his room. being a teacher's pet can actually have really good benefits. be one!!!! ++ dont overwork yourself. do the minimum work to get an A on a paper and leave it. it's just homework, not anything special or needing to perfected. ++ most people you'll never see after high school again. if someone's talking shit or including you in drama, it won't matter in a couple years. you're going to be alright.
I'm long gone from High School at this point, but these are pretty much all just general life lessons, and that's what High School is all about, really. All these broad ideas of organization, composure and discipline, gaming the system, and especially building relationships with the people around you are still all euphamisms for the adult life. If you don't nail those things in your adolescence while your brain is developing and make good habits out of day-to-day life, you will either have a tough time learning them or just rot in adulthood as a neurotic wageslave, regardless of your success. There's three things that I've learned in my spots of adulthood thus far and wish I applied much earlier: Most things if not everything should be done with purpose instead of simply trying to pass or "enjoy" your time or you will live with regrets. I'm not even old and I live with many regrets about how I've treated myself and even still how I treat myself currently, but I've wisened enough to seize the moment for what it is and move on when I'm over it. It can be that moment, an hour or two, or even sleep on it overnight at which point I cannot keep grabbing onto what's already happened, whether or not it was in my control. But you need to learn how to do things with an end goal in mind, and learn how to move on from a negative experience and not hang onto it. If you have no idea what "purpose" you exist for: People. Not to work for people, but to work *with* people. People will guide you to your "purpose" or where you "need" to go, whether they know it or not. Friends, acqaintances, superiors, family, random internet strangers with a shared hobby, you name it. Just like in the video, the people you associate with will mold you and you will find your niche and what you want or need to do. It will take a long time, you just need to keep doing something with people you not only can tolerate, but enjoy the presence of. When you feel good about the people you're around, you will feel good about trying new or different things and will be more open to having more critical thoughts about what sparks that feeling of purpose in you. You'll feel good asking questions and sharing knowledge. Humanity's greatest tool, collaboration, is taken greatly for granted nowadays and it is imperative that all people learn to do so for the betterment of life at all scales. And never stop learning, don't let that momentum go. A picture is worth a thousand words, but memorabilia is everything. Take pictures and videos, do recordings, do dumb drawings and projects with people, make keepsakes for the occasions. Get a film camera for the love of all things holy, even a shitty one. Make everything have some physical connection, just one object. Digital/cloud saved data does not have the same impact as holding a developed film, a wrist band from a concert, a seashell from the time you went to the coast, any of it. Even the bad things, they make for great reflection pieces in the future when you've grown and matured past that point and give you that much more confidence when you realize you may just be able to handle that situation even better now should it happen again and that you're prepared. Just my two cents from somebody with regrets about how they've gone into adulthood from their admittedly mediocre, boring time in high school. Another one - please PLEASE do not stress about or rush romantic/sexual relationships. Unless you really need a kid because you're slated to die soon and don't want the bloodline to end (that's what the sperm bank is for so still), take things slow. It's important to build a relationship just like you may have with friends. These are bonds created over years of expectations, trust, and compromise built by both parties. If you haven't lived with somebody at minimum a year or two, do not let them talk you into marriage and/or a kid. You need to learn their habits, lifestyle, how they present at home and how they treat you in stressful situations before tying yourself down like that. "The One" will wait, if they are "the One," they will have patience for you just as you would for them.

As a university undergrad senior about to complete his degree, here are a few tips for both high-schoolers and college students:
1. Don't skip studying. School exists to teach you how to learn and build connections.
2. Try things. If you focus on your future goals, you'll realize that knowing what you want is crucial for getting ahead. A lot of employers look for experience. A fancy degree can help, but building your skills is still a top priority.
3. Don't overwork or underwork. If you put in too much effort, you'll burn out and feel like you wasted your time and effort on things that didn't matter in the end. Conversely, putting in little effort results in you getting used to not having to try, which is bad for the times you do have to try.
4. Listen to other people. You can learn a lot from being open-minded and hearing other people's experiences.
5. Prioritize which kinds of trends to pay attention to. Are they relevant to you and your future career, or are they strictly just a social media thing?
6. Drop the ego/learn self-respect. A lot of teenagers think extremely about themselves one way or another. Comparing yourself to others isn't going to help you unless you're doing it only to learn.
7. Learn to be interested in things, even if they bore you. For example, a lot of students hate writing, but it's an important skill in almost every field, so learning to enjoy aspects of things you may not necessarily like at first is how you break out of and expand your comfort zone.
8. Be ready to have your preconceived ideas be obliterated. After high school, you're going to run into people from all walks of life, with different experiences and views. A lot of people learn respect in college because of this. At the same time, realize that it's ok to be different. Don't let social norms hold you down.
9. Be authentic. Trying to be different on purpose is a waste of time, and you're going to end up feeling like an imposter in your own life. The phrase "fake it 'til you make it" is good advice, but only if you intend to actually make it.
10. Discipline yourself. Setting rules for yourself, like sleeping at an appropriate time or remembering when to eat, is something that a lot of us lack until we get well into college.
11. Learn to extract value from things. It doesn't always have to be monetary value, but a lot of the skills or hobbies you may deem as useless or a waste of time can be turned into something healthy. If you can't justify doing it, drop it. It's ok to move on and do other things. Branch out.
12. AI is for cowards. Use it, but make sure you also don't need it. Fundamentals are key.
13. Learn to cook. You'll need this one. Trust me.

@@Infact77 For people with cases like you, it's often better to simply just know what is going to be covered in school and just teach it to yourself. The important thing isn't that you excel in school or even go to school - it's that you develop the ability to learn and communicate. However you learn these things is up to you. As for all things trauma-related, the best way to deal with trauma is to replace bad memories with good ones. It requires you to break out of your comfort zone, but that's the requirement for all improvement in general. You shouldn't touch an open wound, but once that wound is sealed, it becomes a scar. Eventually, scars can fade as long as you give them enough time and nourish yourself. Mental scars are the same. They might never go away entirely, but the severity of your reaction to thinking about them can decrease over time. We tend to think the most strongly about things that have recently happened or been on our mind. If you can't take your mind off of something bad, you'll have trouble healing from it because you're essentially touching the wound and not leaving it alone. If you don't know how to heal it, leave it be and let it heal itself. Don't let bad memories prevent you from doing the things you want. Your mental fortitude gets stronger when you are able to trust and believe that things are going to be alright. So the next time you pick up a book, do it for yourself, not for school. It's important to be aware of why you're doing things and for whom you're doing them.

Glad it helped! Honestly I was also insanely introverted when I started high-school, and it took YEARS for me to finally learn how to socialize with people. I would say just don't worry and try to get just a little better each day.
As an introverted person, some tips would be having close friends that will make you get out of your comfort zone and do things you may not have wanted to do before. Also, from my own experience I tend to be more out spoken when I'm with my friends.
Also, to get closer to your teachers/administrators don't hesitate to just simply greet them with a "good morning/afternoon/hello/how are you doing?." It'll remind your teachers that you exist, and you will inevitably get to know/chat with them as the school year progresses. Don't make the same mistake as me where I barely spoke to my teachers at all in my freshmen year.

I cannot thank you enough, I’m starting my senior year in hs, and have come to some of these conclusions on my own but unfortunately I never write my thoughts down and just end up complaining about it later. That part you said about if you want to actually understand a subject your interested in you do that later was so real. These tests don’t test you on your understanding rather your ability to recognize the types of questions and familiarity with the narrow scope of topics that they test you on.

Turns out we are the same age, live in a very similar socioeconomic region of California, and have similar perspectives.
The one thing I'd say is that the driver's license is super varied depending on location. In suburban California, trust me I know, you can't get anywhere without it, but I have plenty of online friends who didn't consider it being necessary until they were like 22 and out of college entirely. If you live somewhere more urban or in a country with more public transport, even working adults don't have one.
going into senior year this video is actually on the mark, especially with the drivers license and hanging out. Having fun means sooo much more than people think.
If I had to pitch in another tip I'd say just straight up cheat even more than you advised. Ik this sounds really bad but honestly I was in some of those homework gc and (might of) seen allegedly many quiz/test early but it lowkey saved me. Not recommending anyone go this hard but just do it with the homework especially and just change up the answers or take turns with friends. Just a huge time saver and you can study for the actually important stuff. also study with your friends.

THIS is why I am studying engineering in college! I always greatly disliked humanities classes for this reason, you're absolutely right. I'm happy I won't have to deal with too much of this in the future.
College Student here, I actually wish someone would have told me these things. I got over a 4.0 GPA but I was never involved in any clubs or administration. I was in it for the grades only, but now that I’m rethinking it getting to know the admin would have been beneficial. Don’t matter if your a freshman or senior it’s never too late to change.
ONE MORE THING! Learn REAL TANGIBLE SKILLS. You literally will not get more free time unless you find an oil field and get rich. Learn things that you can apply to many branches of life. This is something I wish I would have done sooner

There is some good advice in here. When it comes to getting to know admins, you might need charisma which some people are not blessed with, but it’s still good advice. The goofy friend advice was really good as well. I would argue that they actually do add very real value that sticks with you for life. It’s rare to have a goofy friend that also has a motivation and determination to do great things, but they exist. I know that for sure.

In the same boat as you, just graduated and leaving for school in around a month. to add credibility to some of these points:
I got to know a lot of my teachers, granted I went to a private school, and a lot of them were genuinely nice and bumped my grade up those few extra points needed.
I never needed a calendar for my high school years, however I have quickly adopted one as it genuinely makes your day planning so much more efficient and effective, and reduces overlapping events.
A strategy that worked for me with tests is to take note of all the hard problems as you go through the unit (this applies to more than just math, really any subject works) and create a study guide/practice test of those questions. After that test, if you still miss any of those concepts, just relearn them and you should be set for the actual test.
On the topic of goofy friends, I will say they genuinely make the school experience much more fun. Being able to reliably hang out with someone who can just make anything and everything fun really helps keep things interesting. And there's nothing wrong with being the goofy friend either.
To add to the 10 awesome points you gave, I will mention the drama side of high school:
High school drama is worthless. Anything you hear or are a part of will literally not matter once you graduate. So, if there's anything that you think might haunt you for the rest of your life, or if there's just something that bothers you, it wont matter when high school is over.
Lastly, if you aren't the enemy of everyone in your grade, try and have the most fun possible with them, especially in your senior year. This is the last year you will all be at the same place at the same time, and (at least to me) that's something you should make the most of. You might run into these people later in life, and it always help to have good relations with someone.

I highly stress the "get to know your administrators" tip. In fact, I recommend building and maintaining a good relationship with as many school officials and staff as possible, because you can singlehandedly put your school on the map by winning the biggest physics competition in your province for the first time ever, bring home several medals for badminton, top every single waterloo math/cs competition throughout your high school career, and even go to the International Chemistry Olympiad, the first participant from your district, let alone your school, and STILL lose valedictorian (which is elected by school staff in some places) to the student council president even though everyone knows she didn't do jack****, plays an irrelevant sport, and distracts literally everyone in every single stem class by asking the most basic, worthless, trivial questions possible every 2 minutes, just because her family's cozy with the school board.

Knowing school admins and getting to know your guidance councilor more personally is a major success moment for sure. I was able to switch out of classes with bad teachers, get a better overall schedule, and have had more success getting into the classes I want because I was friendly and knew the people in charge of those kinds of things.

@@HotslicerYeah I live in the Netherlands and literally everyone rides their bike to school. It's only a 5 min ride for me and if something is too far we just take the train (but you kinda never need to bc everything the Netherlands is just so close together )

This is all useful advice, but a few notes: some schools rely much more heavily on the textbook verbatim, it gets less reliant as you go further but my experience in 9th grade was that many of the "advanced" classes asked for stuff from the specific textbook and youtube wasn't that reliable as it has more general knowledge. I agree that if there is a class in which you are doing really poorly in then you should cheat, but do it well, don't get caught, if a teacher is suspicious then don't cheat, you can recover from one bad test grade, though it is a slippery slope, don't cheat in ALL your classes, maybe just one.

The only thing im proud of now is that I use a youtube mod which turns of yt shorts and instagram mod that doesnt have reels and story , its only for chatting. Been doing this for 6 months now and tbh I can feel the different of not scrolling brainrot after school.
Yes I also use that extension! Sooo helpful, because I think shorts are the main addictive thing with TH-cam, not really longform. Most longforms I watch are either genuinely really entertaining or educational
As a senior in college, everything he said is incredibly useful and I wish I had seen something like this before high school. Making a calendar and talking to administrators seems overkill but trust its great advice and if you follow this video you will go FAR.

Here’s a very valuable one: avoid anything addicting. Smoking, Porn, Drugs, just don’t. If you’re gonna do anything at a party make sure it’s weed or edibles. Nothing else.

That calendar one is actually really nice. I did a similar thing on my most recent SAT, using the programs section to comment in a bunch of notes. My score improved by 110 points. And the best part? It doesn’t technically violate any of the official SAT rules. What I did, according to college board, is NOT cheating. Its a clever utilization of the resources they give you. They say the TI-84 is approved on the math section, and they never give you any specifics on what parts of the TI-84 are approved and which ones arent. The entire functionality of the device is available to you, so use it.

Class of 2023 here. Id add another tip about getting into relationships. I've seen a lot of relationships around me come and go. Some of which me and my friends thought would last forever but we were wrong. Its highly likely that you will break up so Its not worth it imo, especially if you have a lot going on. I get that people want to get experience which is totally okay. Just dont let it become a distraction. Relationships are supposed to be an addition, not take way.
If you have a large friend group, best case scenario is that you learn from the relationships happening around you and wait till college or after. The dating landscape is the worst its ever been now that social media is such a big thing but whichever way you go, please be safe 🙏🏿
That's excellent advice and I can vouch. 95% of people I know who dated came out of it with regret. I think you need to build yourself and become really confident in your own skin during high school, then think about dating.

the one about school administrators can apply for teachers as well because even though they don't have as much power they can still vouch for you if you get in trouble and can reduce your punishment at least 2 fold. Also help your teachers if you have time because when i helped organize a quiz type event with my literature teacher and some friends after that he would give us keys to classrooms or any space in the school and would sometimes even vouch for us for some of our grades in other classes which boosted our grades by at least 5% (it's worth knowing anyone)

pro tip: at the start of school years if you wanna get to know more people give yourself a sidequest to introduce yourself to all the people in your classes. also being able to say that that's what you're trying to do when walking up to someone gives you an easy default thing to say and a way to start the conversation without being too awkward

Tip #2 is basically pqrst. The most important parts of pqrst are summarizing (which is why TH-cam is your friend) and testing (self testing is one of the best test prep methods). Good stuff here
doing what I can for the algorithm since this video came at the perfect time in my life. about 75% of the points don't apply to me because I take online classes, but it's still extremely important, and I can show it to my niece and nephew when they start high school as well.

Been dropped out for almost 2 years now, trying to come back each year. This time im going to a different school and im going to implement some of these (i already was doing some of the other stuff) into my day to day.

The problem with my school is that for some reason, english is often based on a objective system, which annoys me with stuff that is definitely subjective

Best of luck! I recently released a video on social skills and communicating so consider checking it out. I find that social skills are the main thing we lose from being online.
Tip: If your town or city has a good public transit system, you can use that instead of the car. Example: Vancouver, Canada's TransLink. Buses to EVERYWHERE. If you can get to an event with public transit, get there using it. Better than finding a parking space for 15 minutes.
The bit about literature and history is true. If you can find the side they support of an argument they will give you anything you need, and usually wont realise

dudeeee i so agree with ur points as a girl who just started her junior year a week ago.
guys, note that if youre not able to form a relationship with school admin, definitely form relationships with your teachers.
i had an extremely strict teacher with a soft spot for me and she would correct my test answers before i officially submitted them, looked the other way when i used my apple watch and airpods in class (electronics are prohibited at my school), and vouched for me during awards season.
on the other hand, i also had a cool teacher who loved mostly everyone but i still did my best to form my own bond with him. he also ended up vouching for me during awards season, got one of his students to tutor me, and allowed me to skip my math class to stay in his room.
being a teacher's pet can actually have really good benefits. be one!!!!
++ dont overwork yourself. do the minimum work to get an A on a paper and leave it. it's just homework, not anything special or needing to perfected.
++ most people you'll never see after high school again. if someone's talking shit or including you in drama, it won't matter in a couple years. you're going to be alright.

I'm long gone from High School at this point, but these are pretty much all just general life lessons, and that's what High School is all about, really. All these broad ideas of organization, composure and discipline, gaming the system, and especially building relationships with the people around you are still all euphamisms for the adult life. If you don't nail those things in your adolescence while your brain is developing and make good habits out of day-to-day life, you will either have a tough time learning them or just rot in adulthood as a neurotic wageslave, regardless of your success.
There's three things that I've learned in my spots of adulthood thus far and wish I applied much earlier:
Most things if not everything should be done with purpose instead of simply trying to pass or "enjoy" your time or you will live with regrets. I'm not even old and I live with many regrets about how I've treated myself and even still how I treat myself currently, but I've wisened enough to seize the moment for what it is and move on when I'm over it. It can be that moment, an hour or two, or even sleep on it overnight at which point I cannot keep grabbing onto what's already happened, whether or not it was in my control. But you need to learn how to do things with an end goal in mind, and learn how to move on from a negative experience and not hang onto it.
If you have no idea what "purpose" you exist for: People. Not to work for people, but to work *with* people. People will guide you to your "purpose" or where you "need" to go, whether they know it or not. Friends, acqaintances, superiors, family, random internet strangers with a shared hobby, you name it. Just like in the video, the people you associate with will mold you and you will find your niche and what you want or need to do. It will take a long time, you just need to keep doing something with people you not only can tolerate, but enjoy the presence of. When you feel good about the people you're around, you will feel good about trying new or different things and will be more open to having more critical thoughts about what sparks that feeling of purpose in you. You'll feel good asking questions and sharing knowledge. Humanity's greatest tool, collaboration, is taken greatly for granted nowadays and it is imperative that all people learn to do so for the betterment of life at all scales. And never stop learning, don't let that momentum go.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but memorabilia is everything. Take pictures and videos, do recordings, do dumb drawings and projects with people, make keepsakes for the occasions. Get a film camera for the love of all things holy, even a shitty one. Make everything have some physical connection, just one object. Digital/cloud saved data does not have the same impact as holding a developed film, a wrist band from a concert, a seashell from the time you went to the coast, any of it. Even the bad things, they make for great reflection pieces in the future when you've grown and matured past that point and give you that much more confidence when you realize you may just be able to handle that situation even better now should it happen again and that you're prepared.
Just my two cents from somebody with regrets about how they've gone into adulthood from their admittedly mediocre, boring time in high school.
Another one - please PLEASE do not stress about or rush romantic/sexual relationships. Unless you really need a kid because you're slated to die soon and don't want the bloodline to end (that's what the sperm bank is for so still), take things slow. It's important to build a relationship just like you may have with friends. These are bonds created over years of expectations, trust, and compromise built by both parties. If you haven't lived with somebody at minimum a year or two, do not let them talk you into marriage and/or a kid. You need to learn their habits, lifestyle, how they present at home and how they treat you in stressful situations before tying yourself down like that. "The One" will wait, if they are "the One," they will have patience for you just as you would for them.
