I absolutely love this story. So dark. Even for batman. And the twists ...ohhh man. Amazing story. I like it being separate. Not just because it's Dick Grayson but its just an amazing single story. Honestly if put in an omnibus I would want all of Grayson's time as batman in just one book. But having said that I love it being alone. Seriously one of the best stories and maybe the most dark. I want this cool new edition. I have the cheap paperback. I shouldn't but...probably will. It is just that good. Definitely top five Batman stories. Ohhh its so good. If you haven't read your in for a real treat. A+ and that cover is so cool.
For a thin book glue is a fine method for binding. You are not going to be getting any of these collected editions in this format with sewn binding, it's just not going to happen. It's more expensive to produce the sewn book, so they're not going to cut off their profit margin to satisfy the 2 in 100 sewn binding fanatics. Even DC Omnibuses are sewn and glued, and frequently display some gutter loss. The floppies have no gutter loss. Or get the Absolute for 3-4x the price and enjoy.
@@rowellj89 Court of owls is great, but for me loses steam towards the end. I'm in no way saying I don't like it, but in my mind comparing a 9/10 to a 10/10
One of my favourite eras. I love wish Dick could have been Batman for longer. I think there was a lot of good ideas happening. My copy arrived yesterday. Getting used to the red cover, was a little jarring as I think the original was grey blue
Heck of a book bubba. It's one of the darkest Batman stories I've ever read. A terrific horror/mystery. Snyder, Jock and Francavilla were a hell of a combo, don't you think? Kind of a must read for any Batman enthusiast 🦇
Thank you Omar as always. Oh this story. What more can be said. Ordered it yesterday. My third favorite Bat story of all time. Scott Snyder's best work of all his stuff by far. I love the tone, the detective aspect, and the art is just perfect. I love that he tells a Dick Grayson story too. Most of the other titles at the time don't lean into that. They treat the story as if it could be Bruce, could be Dick, eh. Synder really dives into Grayson's psyche and makes clear who he is as a character. The Black Mirror title is very symbolic to him and the main antagonist. He even highlights the differences between Dick's relationship with Gordon to Bruce's. It would've been out of place in the New 52 Omni or combining it with All-Star. They are each their own thing and deserve their own collections. Plus, New 52 was Capullo's jam too and he should be highlighted for that. Take care and peace everyone.
Omar… thank you so much for doing all that you do for the community… I have just re-kindled my love for comics, and found your site to be so refreshing and informative… I have a question regarding The Walking Dead series… I noticed that you had the 16 volume hardcover set… would you recommend that set over the 8 volume omnibus set?
I've been disappointed in DC for a while now. They keep overcharging on all their products and yet the quality has gone DOWN. I expect better than glued binding with gutter loss and cheap paper for a pricey $50 book. For that much money Dark Horse offers library editions of Hellboy among others. Those are much higher quality, more comparable to the $100+ overpriced DC "Absolute" editions.

@@JakeTheComicBookDude I promise you really should. Especially this edition. It's chiefs kiss.
Thank you
Glued binding with gutter loss is not Deluxe treatment, never mind worth $50. Thank you, Omar, for keeping us informed.
Seriously. Every deluxe should be sewn. Ill be holding out hope for an absolute reprint. It's Batman and Snyder so it will probably happen.
It really doesnt look that bad

Great Batman book, great review! Thx Omar
DC Please reprint the absolute!
Every Black Mirror hardcover, whether it’s an Absolute or Dlx, have awesome covers.
This is the best story that Scott Snyder has done for Batman for me
100 percent
You're right though
Better than court of owls?

I think Court of Owls and Black Mirror are his only great Batman stories tbh
Never read it before. Ordered it since it pops up on a lot of top 10 Bats Stories lists.
Ordered.
Love this story so much that I’m more than willing to double dip if the Absolute edition is ever reprinted.
My copy just arrived. And i am currently reading it. I liked the matted paper stock
Ordered & cancelled lol. Going to anxiously wait for absolute reprint….
Already ordered it. It's on its way to me now.
Just grabbed this book today at my LCS. The DM cover is quite nice and this book first introduced me to Jock!
I luv this story so much, theres something about scott snyders writing where it never bores u and its incredible🙏🙏🙏

My favourite Batman story of all time. Got the Absolute edition and the standard hardcover, so it's a pass for me, but the deluxe looks nice.
Alriiiiiight 🤘

The glued binding and gutter loss is a killer on books like this. I have the standard size HC so I can probably stick with that.

Is this story collected in any omnibus?
He answers in the first minute. lol
This story isn’t collected in any of the current Batman omnibus.

@@hadilatif6372 I see what you mean. Sadly no. I hope they do all of the extra Snyder in Omnibus format.
A 3rd Batman by Snyder omnibus should collect this and other misc Snyder Batman stories.
Do you have the joker 80 years comic

It was Deluxe I thought. I'll have to look when I get home.

yeah this is the first deluxe edition

Is the minimum pre reading for this Batman & Son?
Probably the best, and almost only decent thing Scott S did with Batman. A must in the collection.
SECOND !!!
