Cool, going to get this. Sometimes I think DC would be better off bringing one shot story arcs like this to the movie screen instead of trying to establish a universe to compete with the MCU.
Yeah i would like to see that as well but unfortunately too much time money and egos involved
They already do this somewhat in the animated universe and have done well

DC does adapt these types of stories, only in animated form. The DCAU is better than even the MCU in all honesty, sadly it's often overlooked by fans.

This story was fantastic. It was like a horror movie and really kept you guessing until the final reveal. Definitely one of the best more recent Batman stories.
Stories like this make me wish we had more comics featuring Dick as Batman.

Yeah, he's amazing! Love the very low key approach to him in this story, it makes the character far more haunting.
Him trying to turn babies into psychopaths like him is one of the creepiest villain plots IMO. Jim Jr and Zsasz are 2 of the only Batman villains who could exist in real life.
He's like Grayson's Joker. While Bruce stays stoic and emotionless with the Joker taking pleasure with his actions, Dick emotes more as Batman while James stays emotionless with his actions.
Gordon's family has always been such a mess, he divorced, his daughter got her spine shot out, his son is a psycopath, his wife was killed by The Joker, and in Gotham By Gaslight he's actually Jack the Ripper... at least in the movie
This is one of the best Dick Grayson stories ever! Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing/Batman (who is back to being Nightwing) is my favorite DC superhero ever!

Scott Snyder did a brilliant job applying his horror roots ( American Vampire) to the detective noir of Batman.
Love his depiction of Dick Grayson. A more hopeful and not naïve Batman yet still very likeable competent protagonist.
The ' banality of evil' that James Gordon Jr represents makes him far more terrifying than the typical supervillain...
The addition of the Dealer, Tiger Shark, Sonia Zucco are great icing on this masterpiece.
Barbara Gordon as Oracle may have physical limitations but she is portrayed as intelligent, resourceful and realistically strong in spirit, especially in the climactic confrontation with James Jr at the end.
James Gordon provides the every man trying to do good perspective and has great chemistry with Dick's Batman.
Highly recommended as part of Batman's literary collection if you're a fan.

If they decide to make that Batgirl movie, it needs to be an alteration on this story with Barbara trying to track down a serial killer only to find out its her own brother.
Why not write her an original story instead of using an already established one?

Thank you for keeping things relatively spoiler free here. I just read the trade and it's now among my favorite Batman stories we need more crime/psychological thrillers and character pieces like this in the Batman cannon.

I’ve decided this is the best batman story
I want to check this out after having viewed this. But, my favorite non Bruce Wayne Batman story is "Battle For The Cowl". Maybe you can cover that one? It's awesome. It shows how we can deal with life, even without a loved one being present. And while Bruce was revealed not to be dead, the story still resonates with me. Junior seems like a truly tragic villain. You have to wonder what i's like to be a lawman and to have a serial killer for a son. I once read an article in Reader's Digest about a real life lawman who realized his son was one. Sad.
honestly this is my favourite batman story of all time, not only is it a story about a man living up to the legend of his deceased mentor but its a story about gotham itself and how this dark twisted city can almost corrupt someone as good and kind hearted as dick grayson and his struggle not to succumb to that darkness and thats reflected in everyone he interacts with in this book having been traumatised or twisted by gotham in some god forsaken way and that its not just the supervillains that gotham has cursed but its regular citizens barbara, Jim, James, Jims Wife, Bullock, tim, sonia branch, the gcpd and even bruce himself have all fallen victim to gothams dark nature everyone except dick who time and time again refuses to let the city and its tragedies given define him and in the end emerge a dark knight who is less a dark myth and legend but instead a beacon of hope that gotham never knew it needed.
The contrast between Dick and Jim Jr is that Dick sees the good in people who have good in them while James thinks empathy is a weakness and wants to make everyone unfeeling psychopaths like him. The scary thing is you don't know whether James succeeded in making a group of babies psychos like him by giving them formula with crushed up pills designed to dull their empathy.
Yeah, James might have created a future generation of Gotham villains. But then again, I can't imagine that growing up in such a twisted, crime-ridden city would be healthy for any child.

Snyder's run on Batman has been incredible from start to finish. It sucks that "Last Knight on Earth" will be his final time writing for Batman. I'm hopeful that he'll return to it in the future.
Expertly made video! I just finished reading this story and its already one of my favourite Batman tales of all time. Snyder truly is a master at crafting an unsettling atmosphere and intriguing mysteries in his stories.
These are the types of stories I love the most. Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Hush, so damn good.

I know this might sound stupid but I haven't picked up BM because it has nightwing as Batman instead of Bruce and I'm not saying it won't be a good story I'm just saying it's one that doesn't have Bruce as Batman but because of all the praise I might have to pick it up feel free to let me know if it's worth it
I thought the same thing initially. Bruce Wayne is always Batman for me. Didn't like the Azrael Jean Paul Valley run back in the day.

Very pleased with my decision.
If you're into more grounded detective noir sprinkled with some superhero flavor, I'd highly recommend the book.
