The good thing about Goff is he's a pure pocket passer so it's not like the dudes gonna try and hurdle a defender week 2 and get injured the rest of the season. I think they realize they have atleast 2-3 more good years with Goff so I don't see the problem with the contract
Now that the details are out, they could get out of the final year if necessary.
This offense is built like the Patriots back in the day. Pocket passer qb, great o line, good running backs, and a dominant TE and slot receiver with some good outside options
Its expensive to pay your guy but it's also unbelievably costly to go get another guy thats better. If you take a chance on a young guy and it doesnt work, it's all for nothing.
U get fired if you miss on a rookie
Lions have the number 1 OL in the league, Goff is near perfect when he has time. One game last yr he was 24/25 when unpressured.
Go look at his numbers against the blitz. For whatever reason, Goff is the guy people choose to push narratives about.
Lions are done.. Overpaid for your QB, mid WR, and a Right Tackle... Yikes
@@Kubush1 let me guess, your a Bears fan
Most of these top paid QBs are nothing without a running game but they won't pay RBs.
Because run blocking is the reason for quality run game not running backs
@@samrosendahl392 tell that to Saquon Barkley 😂
@@samrosendahl392Go look up how good the Packers were with/without Aaron Jones last year…..
@@marlymarlle Not sustainable long term, and with the Eagles OL this year Barkley will probably have a career year
@@marlymarlle he is gonna be amazing with the eagles insane run blocking. I think when your run blocking is great having an elite running back makes a difference
That’s just how the QB market is nowadays, QBs are expensive and good/above-average QBs are taxed. That’s the modern day NFL
Cap is expected to Jump from 235mil in 2024 to over 280mil in 2025 and over 300mil in 2026. I think it was smart to sign him now before Tua, Love, Dak get extended and then the QBS next year will be close to if not signing for 60mil a year.
Yes the total dollar amount for the Jared Goff extension was top of the market but when take as a percentage of the Salary Cap at time of signing his AAV is only 10th most
In today's obviously insane market, the Lions HAD to do this. So not an overpay
I was waiting for this video...
I think Jared Goff is worth 3 wins... But with help of having a good team around him
Isn't that most teams and QBs (Lamar had a top 2 defense and a great O-line but when scoreless in the second half of thee AFCCG)
@@visionstealth7827Lamar jackson is a complete game changer
Yes. It needs to be front loaded. He's the most dependent on a good team around him..and I feel he is a very good QB just not the 2nd or 3rd highest and didn't make the SB. But hey I still feel QBs get much blame and sometimes to much credit
overpaying your qb is the cost of doing business
All over paid
Is Goff good enough to win a super bowl? Yes. Are there 32 human beings in the world good enough to win a super bowl as a QB? Yes.
Gotta pay the price
They've been great at drafting recently, if they can continue to get good players in the draft the contract shouldn't be a issue
Bill Baggins: Well no... and yes...
Old guy here. I’ve always wondered why as the QB gets older, he gets more money even though he will be older, a step slower, and loss of arm strength. It’s paying more for a depreciating asset. It’s crazy to think about.
Goff is 29 not 35
My Brother in Christ, he's not even 30 yet. 😂
Spoken like an older guy
It might not even be more money if the salary cap grew further than the contract
Cause as a qb get older his win rate and playoff get better .
Im happy w the state of lions affairs
... but to be honest, if this was literally any other gm thats ever existed, id be worried. But brad holmes somehow doesnt lose talent, and if we do like w jonah jackson, we replace him w equal talent for cheaper like we did w the guard we signed in free agency
Like all things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Lions had tons of Cap space, what this does is pressure other teams to pay the same or more to other QBs, which will squeeze their space.
YES
Yes
Like to see a video on whether lamar Jackson is overpaid. The narrative is that Lamar deserves nothing as he is not a QB and not a proper football player.
I don't know why this is such a big deal. Goff IS a top 5 QB in the NFL. If you look at when Goff had had hiccups in his career it was early on with the Rams and his first year in a new system and coach in Detroit. Once Goff got a grasp in both systems he has taken off. A guy that has played at a top level in 2 different systems, under 2 different coaches, with 2 different franchises IS a franchise QB. After last season Detroit was one more passrusher and secondary help away from a legitimate SB contender. Yesterday I heard Hodge and John's on a Bears network criticizing the Goff extension which was funny to hear 2 fellow Bears fans that wouldn't know a franchise QB if he drilled them between the eyes through their TV screens, criticizing another franchise for resigning a proven commodity.
A fair assessment besides saying he's a top 5 QB. He's definitely not, but he's above average. The major issue is that last year is probably his peak. He's already 29, he's more likely to get worse than better at this point.
Yes he's overpaid slightly but the lions have a 4 year window no reason to not try and win.
Nope go breakdown the numbers & contract it's actually a deal! Cap hit this year 17 million next year 32 million & can down even further
No. How is this even being asked? Only a casual would think this.
No, they didn't because of how they see his value. Considering they struggles they were having. I think things worked out well for him and Stafford. But overpaying a player isn't really outside the organization place to judge. We're not around these players constantly. We only see what they do on the field. Not in the locker room or anything unless they do something bad. But when these players are doing great things for their community, you don't tmz or the news or even vloggers like yourself talking about it! Just more negativity to continue to discredit people. Why not celebrate his rebirth with The Lions. Celebrate when these spotlight people do great things?! If the organization feels he's earned that money, then why pick it part based solely on game film? Do you film about any of his charity events? Things he's doing in the community? Helping children? Or the homeless? Is he beating his wife or a psychopath? Why do people always find ways to tear others down? Why can't we lift each other up? Support each other? Love each other? Why is it so hard for human kind to be kind humans?! It's so heartbreaking!
i see what u sayin but this is football not community service my brother. Its an overpay that will be worth it when we win the superbowl, but until then, why? why is he making more than lamar? mahomes? he should get a bit less in my opinion, he is the guy in detroit and thats that, no matter the pay check i guess, just confusing
@Ilikedogs9000 Yes, but he's still a kid. How would you feel if your son or daughter (if you have kids), were playing soccer or baseball or whatever as well rookie and someone was trashing them? He's still young. If Nate Hobbs was playing like trash right now, you'd be 💯. But a rookie, 21-22 years old. Trying to learn the NFL and the speed while learning the playbook. That's a whole different level of processing and growth. Let's see how the kid does this year and next year. After that, I'll back you, my man! But we gotta give the kids a chance. It's like high school players trying to play alongside you and your team in a game! Kids' heads would LITERALLY spin like owls!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I ran cross country, the 100m, 100 m hurdles, and 200m. Then I tried out for soccer. You people are on a different level of endurance! All that running, I was $H!T... Slaves didn't run this much!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that is on a different level, and I was younger.
@@Ilikedogs9000Because that’s the way the market is nowadays lol. This is nothing new
As long as he keeps Tampa Bay Buccaneers down I’m good with his paycheck
Window closing? Lions are a very young team with a young QB. Why?
Cousins and Penix looking better and better.
They need somebody to keep them relevant.
Need somebody? Could you be more vague? You sound silly by the way
@@hattershouse710 that’s fine. I can elaborate he’s a great place holder QB. He will keep the lions relevant
@@veldrensavoth7119 If he was a place holder, then they would not have given him an extension. That's been debunked. Yes he will keep the Lions relevant as any good QB will for their team.
@@hattershouse710 do you think he’s better the Herbert and Derek Carr?

Yes. The Lions won't sniff the Superbowl and they know it.
