- We had not been to a K&W in years, so decided to have lunch at the 3300 Healy Drive location, on our Winston-Salem weekend.
There is also another location at 800 East Hanes Mill Road.

Jackson’s Cafeteria remains in Gastonia NC. We last ate at the K&W in Myrtle Beach fall 2020. Our first time there, the food was really good….we went back two days later and I ended up sending my fried chicken back. Still, as you said, these type places are fading. We may give them another try soon. God Bless.
@Momtocam1997 Yes, someone else also mentioned Jackson's Cafeteria. I had forgotten about them. There was one in Lenoir many years ago, and I had even forgotten the existed.

My grandmother took me to a Picadilly when I was young. It was very good. Then we upgraded to Sizzlers. 😂
I remember Piccadilly well. They bought out Morrison's, which was another cafeteria that I loved.

The K&W in Ashboro did close. My wife and I used to stop there on the way back from the beach. We were disappointed when it closed. And as far as being for old people some people around here used to say K&W stood for canes and walkers.
There’s a K&W in concord NC. There’s a pancake pantry in Winston Salem, owned by the same in Gatlinburg
Yes, we found out there was a K&W in Concord, but did not know about there being a Pancake Pantry in Winston. We've eaten at the one in Gatlinburg, but it has been a long time.
K&W Food is not the same as it was Thats why you never see that many people there anymore and the cost is to high. If you want food that is good like K&W use to be go to C&H Cafeteria in Kernersville,NC. I love it there!
@@toddl4629 We rarely get to Kernersville, but we would be willing to give it a try if we do. We actually still enjoy K&W.
The first one I ate at was Concord and it's still there. I moved to Winston area for about 20 years and are at all the ones in Winston, High point, Chapill Hill, Statesville, Charlotte and most if not all the ones in Greensboro and not to forgetting Fayetteville.😊

J & S Cafeteria Asheville,NC still open after decades ...I lived 5 minutes from it when I lived in Asheville .
Yes, I thought there was still one in Asheville. It's only been a few years since we've been to it.
Wife and I love K&W. We are in High Point are 2 in Greensboro the best one is Friendly S/C. The staff and food at Friendly are always very accommodating and cheerful and food is always fresh. We took our grandson when he was little he is 25 now and wants to go back lol. Did have a K&W and J&S in High Point. Don’t understand why people don’t go to cafeterias as much now.
I don't understand it, either. Cafeterias give you great food, at a great value.
I miss having a J&S Cafeteria in our area.

I'm not sure about down in Myrtle Beach, but I know there was one in North Myrtle, that closed down several years back.
There are 10 K&W locations open in North Carolina. We always enjoy eating there, good food!
Yes, that is correct......10 are in North Carolina, and one is in Virginia.
When we would go to Savannah for Dr visits or/and shopping we would always go to Morrison’s Cafeteria….very good food. Their Waldorf salad and shrimp salad was so so good. That’s for sharing.
I really miss Morrison's Cafeteria. That used to be part of our family's Florida vacation, when we would visit the Sarasota area.
We enjoyed your video! My husband and I grew up near Winston/in Winston and we both enjoy K&W. Sadly we do not feel the food is as good as it used to be- but we still enjoy going. If you get the chance- really try C&H cafeteria in Kernersville. We discovered it 3-4 years ago. Interesting note- my family and some friends of ours at lunch at the K&W after church the Sunday that it blew up on that early Monday morning. I’d just graduated recently from Appalachian and was teaching at Sugar Loaf Elementary on Hwy 16 in Taylorsville- my mom called that Monday AM and told me it had blown up! We all had a very strange feeling for a while. Enjoyed your video!
I can imagine that would be a strange feeling, knowing you had just eaten there. It bothered me to hear about it, and I hadn't eaten there that recently.
Thank you for the suggestion. We are rarely ever in Kernersville, except passing through. But if we ever are, we'll keep it in mind.
The last time we were there you paid after you ate….on the way out.

So glad that you two had a great experience at K&W. Everything you got looked delicious. That fried chicken really looked good. We really loved our food at the Roanoke location. When we went everyone was so friendly and we enjoyed our visit. You can't beat the price!!
I don't believe there is a better deal in town. Yes, we had a really good lunch. Everything was good, from the food, to the servers. Overall great experience.
My late mother loved cafeterias because of all the veggies. I don’t even know where the nearest cafeteria would be to where I live. If I google cafeterias, I get cafes. Looked so good!
It was very good. Sadly, cafeterias are dwindling. I don't understand why. You get great food and a great value.
Covid caused most cafeterias to close. So sad.

Yes, I remember the one in North Myrtle Beach very well, because it was only a few minutes from the place my mom has down there. I don't think we ever ate at that one, but I was sad to see it close.
I did learn there were more in North Carolina, around Raleigh, Rocky Mount, and even Wilmington. And I think Concord does have one.
We only had two of these shirts made up. I just hate to have a bunch made up in bulk, and there not be much interest. We do appreciate your comment, however.
@@NCMemoryMakers there are a bunch of print-on-demand "merch" websites where you could upload your design... you don't make a heck of a lot in commission, but you don't have to do any work or investment beyond creating an account and uploading your design, choosing which products you want to offer. My husband sells his art drawings on Society6, but there are a lot of others out there. Fans get what they want and you don't have to invest any money. Win/win maybe?
There used to be a K&W cafeteria in Surfside Beach South Carolina it was next to the Surfside Beach Mall it is no longer there but we loved it . Near Murrell's Inlet. If you ever get to San Antonio Texas and that area, try Luby's Cafeteria, absolutely out of this world.

Hi I’m a small TH-camr and just found you. I cook on a Chuckwagon with several others and we travel in NC. We will be in Silk Hope (Siler City) for Labor Day weekend with 4 Chuckwagons cooking over a wood fire. We will have one or two wagons the next weekend at the Lee County fair in Sanford. You are welcome to come out and eat with us and film the events we are at just let me know. Planning to be at the festival in Goldston NC on October 12 for festival (probably two wagons). There is C&H Cafeteria, in Kernersville NC😊, that would be approximately 10 mile, take 40 eastbound, from Healy Drive.
@phyllispitts6656 Yes, many people have commented about it. We just don't get to Kernersville very often. We were in Winston-Salem for medical reasons. We had fun childhood memories of K&W, and that's why we went there.
I live in Randleman. The K&W in Asheboro closed a few years ago. There used to be 2 locations in Greensboro and if I'm not mistaken they're both still open. There's also some in Myrtle Beach. We go to the south end when we go and I'm sure the one that's located there was still open last year when we went.
Yes, our server yesterday was telling us that the one in Asheboro was no more. I was sad to hear that. I had eaten there a couple of times when I was down that way. It is sad to see so many cafeterias closing down. I remember the one in North Myrtle Beach very well.
My Wife and I just ate breakfast there this Sunday morning.We had a coupon we were planning on using but were not allowed to use and the date was still good.We couldn't believe how high the price of our meal was and it didn't include biscuits or toast.We usually eat at restaurants in Clemmons and just thought that we would give their breakfast a try since we had a discount coupon.We will Not be eating at K+W again since they don't honor their coupons and they charge you extra for biscuits or toast for breakfast.We will be eating at Pete's or Clemmons Kitchen from now on.They both have better food,lower prices and they don't charge you extra for bread.Oh Friendlier service too.
We are very sorry to hear of your experience. We have not been there for breakfast, and yes, they should honor their coupons, if the coupons are still within the date.
We certainly had great and friendly service that day...Some of the best. And our food was delicious. Everyone has their own experiences.
At the intro you mentioned MORRISONS CAFETERIA . We had one of those there at Hanes Mall next to SEARS when I was a kid.

I also remember the Morrisons in Hanes .all. I think I ate there a time or two. Most of my experiences at Morrison's, were in Florida. But I do remember there being one in Hanes Mall.
I love you guys. I've never visited the area where you live and/or visit, but will be going to Myrtle Beach at the end of March for the first time, so suspect I will try some of your recommendations. You're informative, friendly, genuine, thoughtful, sometimes funny, everything I like in food reviewers. Next time that y'all are in Georgia south of Atlanta, Y'all should try Buckner's restaurant near Jackson Ga. It's been voted the best buffet in Georgia for years.

I loved Morrisons growing up
So did I. Morrison's was a favorite of mine. They had one in the mall in Sarasota, Florida, and also in Greenville, South Carolina. I remember both of those vividly.
I also remember there being one in the Hanes Mall, in Winston-Salem.
Morrison's also had the best apple turnovers I've ever eaten

Actually, I did a few times. Once Piccadilly bought it out, they used to offer a really good deal on Thursdays, and we would stop there on our way from Sarasota up to St. Augustine.
I've heard that there isn't much left in the Lakeland Square Mall now.
I live in Gastonia and we have a cafeteria called Jackson's and it is on Franklin Blvd at Akers Center shopping center. It is really good. I love German Chocolate Pie. I make a German Chocolate Pie and they are really good pies. I remember growing up going shopping to Charlotte and we used to always go to S & W cafeteria and it was good. They are really good places to eat because you get a balanced meal and a dessert. I think the S & W's used to be in Belks downtown. I used to love the roast beef. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this comment. I had completely forgotten about Jackson's. There was one in the Lenoir mall right above our house, right after it opened. It didn't stay long. I haven't seen a Jackson's Cafeteria since then. Glad to know you have one down in Gastonia. We may just have to make a trip down there.
