@@heavyvibrationstudiopl3256 the whole point of this series is that the riffs don't change. Don't worry though I've written a lot of new music recently for future videos
Damn right on the mark that it sounds great. The Diavlo has a dark ambience, but also a smooth, articulate and clanky midrange of the Fortin variety along with a gain that remains tight across the dial. All these elements merge together audibly in a recording or live setting to form this low-end grunt, a growling midrange and rumbling high-end, at least when typically run with V30s and captured with an SM57 or SM58. One can also get additional sizzle by really pushing the presence or incorporating an EQ into the chain. Definitely a unique and even versatile amp, but one that leans heavily on the dark and brutal tones.
I have the MD45 version. Very similar. Definitely not for sizzling highs, but if you dime the presence you can get some really good tones. Throw an EQ in the fx loop and it'll get those highs (along with many other tones). Surprisingly good cleans and nice pedal platform.
Every time I've thought about selling this amp I remember that there is simply no other that compares at the price point I got it at($800). Its got such a unique character to it. My only issue with it is that its so good at doing everything that I can't validate getting another amp. It made me really happy to see the BK Aftermaths in action as well as I just installed a set in my own guitar.
I've got the RDH40 with the Diavlo 4x12 cab. Sounds amazing! Put a 6 band up front and you can boost what you want for different tones. Asome amp for the price.
Jon, the Metal Active Riff at 3:08 was BRUTAL! The Diavlo seems right at home for all things dropped tuned and heavy. Since it is a Randall, I wonder how well it does in the Pantera department. Keep up the great work!
I ended up buying those new Ownhammer IRs after watching another of your vids. They're great. I hope you get a cut. I don't think I would have known about them without your vid. Ownhammer emails were going to my spam folder for some reason. Thanks.
Jeez. You really know how to get results. This is the best I've earver heard a diavlo sound. Makes me want one. But I likely wouldn't be able to pull off as good of a tone.
@@SonicDriveStudio right on. I've been curious about that redseven box. I just question how much I would use it. I live in the country in my own house. Have my own massive space where I can make all the noise I want. I have an engl 412 pro from 2005 with the original v30's. Sure this is great BUT sometimes i kinda just wanna hear my ampthrough a different cab. But which cab? Do I really wanna spend thousands on all these different t cabs? Or would I enjoy a good reactive load box that I can use much cheaper ir's? I have ir's of my cab. I have 4 different mic options in 7 different positions each and 7 different positions with off axis. So I could also keep my cab in rotation with 3rd party ir's. My whole point being, I don't know what to do. Lolololol I just wonder, "what if?" I mean there's nothing wrong with my cab. It records well. It works with my all my amps but most importantly my evh el34 100 watt head VERY WELL. What do you think john? Would i get good use out of a reactive load box or just put my money elsewhere since I do get great results already? I mean my music gear shopping list is 10 miles long at this point.
I think the only thing that sucks about the Diavlo series is how much they’ve skyrocketed in price recently. When I bought the 5w head…..it was going for $450 around 2016-2017. Now they’re $800 BRAND NEW……….WHY??? Seems like price gouging to me
That is something I could never understand as well. These 100's are coming back down right now for $1,300. still a little high better than $1,900.00 a month ago...
I got the 5-watt head on 2013 for $300 and they increased slightly over the years, which is to be expected. But I stumbled across them recently and was SHOCKED to see the current prices. Fecking crazy.
I know this might be a tough question to answer when you have so many great amps in your collection but, does this amp rank in the higher, middle or lower spot in your collection? I just picked one up today mostly based on your demos of this amp so curious to know your thoughts. I think it's a great sounding and uniquely voiced amp and I'm pretty happy it's not as "high gain" as a lot of other modern voiced amps. I also noticed that you don't run your channel volumes very high. How much do you think ,with this amp, it makes a difference running them a little lower. Thanks, man...great riffage!!
Amazing sound for $800. A great value for a classy amp like the Randall. I would try the Maxon OD808x pedal for this one, it can remove some of that boxy muddiness and make it even tighter
Great job Jon, as per usual. I was wondering how all the different amps feel to play, or make you play differently? Thus, things that the sound that you provide us with just cannot convey (bc of the medium not the content), if that makes sense 😊
This amp is awesome but you definitely need help from a drive pedal and or a eq . I got a 4MXR 6 band going through the fx loop and a fortin 33 going in the front and what a whole different monster it turned into!
I had a Diavlo RD45 and just could not bond with it. On paper it seemed perfect but it was way too dark and dry for my tastes and I actually like dry amps (VHT/Fryette) but the Diavlo was just so dark. I sold it a week later and never looked back.
I agree the same thing. I bought my RD100h a few years ago and I could never bond my Randall Diavlo's "sound" at all. You're a lot smarter than I am. I actually played and changed a few different Preamp tubes and Power tubes within 60 days later. Then I realized, I just hate the sound itself. Lol. By now, I couldn't return mine though. My RD100 is still sitting underneath my desk. Lol. I just got so pissed my decision and I just went digital modeler (Fractal FM9). And now...I never looked back. Lol. 🤣
Those amps do sound incredible. Unfortunately Randall has increased their prices to ridiculous levels 1700 to $2300 for a Chinese made head is ludicrous. Best deal I have seen on them is through zzounds or american musical supply. They have them for $1700, Musicians Friend has the insane price of $2300.
I don't like the lack of raw sound on your channel, you always have a processed double track. if you could devote some time to developing a wide metal sound to play at home, I would be glad. I know you are a pro, with respect)
I owned this amp and while it’s a good platform, there just wasn’t enough gain for them to call it some like like “Diavlo”. It was just okay by itself.
What are your thoughts on this amp?
Amp is fine. But you have to record some new songs. We know all of them.Come on boss.
@@heavyvibrationstudiopl3256 the whole point of this series is that the riffs don't change. Don't worry though I've written a lot of new music recently for future videos
I have heard those licks n riffs so often. doesn't matter which amp you are playing through. I just hear you. Sounds great. As always. 😁

The amp has some brutal distortion but missing is some mid punch.
Been a fan of the Diavlo mini heads for a while now. Thankfully got mine before they literally doubled in price!

The baritone riff that starts at 4:40 is fcking unreal, please do turn it into a song !
Just grabbed an RD20H and matching 1x12 cab for a great price brand new--- LOVE IT!

It likes it when you cranked the presence (and treble somewhat), that is true!
The more I hear it the more I’m impressed. I can hear every single note with it. It’s that very sharp yet dark midrange
Sounds great but the part I love about your videos is all of the great riff ideas you come up with. Keep it up!
Sounds great I think Randall made some great amps especially when Mike Fortin was designing for them another awesome video

Sounded great for every style. I don't like bright sizzly amps; this one sounds clearer in the mids than some amps, and punchy with smoother dirt.

The Randall Diavlo RD100H was and is still the underrated champion of the newest and likely last of the Randall series.

Jeez. You really know how to get results. This is the best I've earver heard a diavlo sound. Makes me want one. But I likely wouldn't be able to pull off as good of a tone.

Great demo as always \m/
How does the Diavlo compare to the Satan?
Yep, definitely bring this one to ToneX.
I had the 45w and the 20w. the 45 and up is probably the best amp I have ever played, seriously.
Always love your vids Jon. Even though I’ve heard them lots I don’t get sick of your riffs.

No boost or pre eq on baritone and 8 string? Impressive.
That's correct

I never liked Randall to be honest, but I have to say that in this demo, it does sound pretty good! The riffs were fire as usual!
I used to have an old solid state Randall when I was a kid and this obviously sounds very different. Designed by Fortin
Any plans to do a badlander video? 100, 50, or 25W! Just to compare to dual Rec and other amps as well!
I would love to! I talked to Mesa about it but I'm not sure if it's doable logistically. It might help if you let them know you'd like to see it :)
