- After the disappointing launch of Street Fighter 5, fans of the series had hoped that the developer would ensure that its successor would get off to a much better start, and last year, that’s exactly what happened.
Street Fighter 6 launched in June of 2023 to widespread positivity and acclaim, with critics and players alike showering the game with praise for its core mechanical strength, the bevy of content it had on offer, the way it improved on the series’ formula, and more.
But with the game now roughly a year old, how exactly has it fared in its first post-launch year? From issues related to microtransactions to a solid stream of post-launch content and updates, Street Fighter 6’s post-launch life has got off to a start with ups and downs. Here, we talk about all of that and more.
Honestly, these kinds of "One Year Later" reviews should be the standard for live-service games across gaming news and reviews outlets. The state of an online game on-release and a year later could be vastly different. Or alternatively, if a live-service game dies under a year, there could be a journalistic investigation into why it happens in the first place.

@@racpatriceI rather pay for extra characters than a whole new version of the game. That being said, all the strongest characters are still in the base roster.
A lot of SF players only play SF and I don't think most of them would want a extra year with SF5, they got there 30 dollars worth

Yup - MK1 got me, and I've been looking for another good modern fighter, but with SF6 and Tekken 8 doing basically the same thing or worse (I didn't even think that was possible - but here we are), I think I'll just go into my back catalog and play my old games. Charging over $100 for the "all included" version of a game and then trying to scam me for more money is a no go from me.

I’m really loving this game! I think the absence of an over the top comeback mechanic is one of my favorite changes.

Comment on the heavy monetization on game cosmetics: You can unlock alternative customs for every character in the story mode! But it is quite grindy, you need to beat the story and find all of the masters in the world, than farm some mini games to get the necessary currency to buy a master's favorite gift, and than you just spam the gift to the master to reach max bond levels, the main story takes around 20 hours, and it took me around 5 hours to get half the cast's alternative costumes. Most of this costumes are legacy costumes as well, except of course for the new comers.

@@kelvin303 Stop this nonsense. SF6 overrated? SF5 on release date was BASHED for the complete lack of content and the online barely working at all, with terrible netcoding. Not only that the 8-frame delay made a lot of people angry when playing online, and the game received significant backlash. SF6 1st Year>>>>>>SF5 1st year by far, and it isn't even close, the sales numbers, the total average amount of players playing showcase that, along with the continuously higher tournament entries on top of it.
SF5 eventually became an excellent game, but it took years, so just stop it. I agree with you that gameplay wise, their are things I like more from SF5 to SF6, however overall as a fighting game, and what it gives and brings, I disagree.
Damn they really did call Aki as A.K.I....tell me you didn't play SF6 after she came out without telling me you didn't played SF6 after she came out. Also too you guys missed one of the controversial points of the collaborations and the fact that those costumes are ONLY for the create a characters that a lot of people don't care to use and wished the actual characters could have the outfits just like back in SF5

I think it’s mediocre at best I mean the lack of single player content is ridiculous and have only four characters in one year and they cost a fortune and you can’t earn them as you play. I mean the game is useless to me not everybody plays games online because we don’t wanna deal with cheaters all day.! I spent 90 bucks for his game. I’ll probably never buy one again as long as I.! Extremely disappointed in the game!!

As much as I still love this game, (been many years since I enjoyed a new fighting game) its DLC model can never get enough shit imo. It makes Ubisoft's "$p£cial" and "d£lux€" editions look good.
Needing to buy several "passes" the price of full games (or "fighter coins" worth pretty much the same) to get the all the characters and stages is disgusting.
SF6 is ok. I expected much more from Capcom in 2024.

I would just get the Standard version. Not all DLC characters are worth it (Rashid and Ed for example) even Akuma is not the same as he was in SF5 or SF4... I mean he's not a bad character but yes he's very different now. I'm looking forward to get Bison... Then Terry Bogard and Elena next year 👍.

Sf6 always has 9000 people tuning in to watch it on twitch while tekken 8 or mk1 struggle to hit 3k and 2k, respectively. Sf6 is by far the most popular fighting game this generation.
I've heard some good things about tekken recently though. I hear they've fixed some stuff up but idk how deep it goes. Mk1 however is just not in a very good place. It seems like even their fan base is disappointed in it. Hopefully they get the game that they deserve

The one way to play metric is what has been killing fighting games for me.
i really like SF6, but im general i totally agree with this. All in, aggressive offense or bust. Cant play your own way or style. It is kinda disheartening. And its in other games too, like sports games. Or sport / fighting like UFC. The last 2 entries have been play the meta way or die. So opposite of how mma should be.
@@nunyabizwacks6711 These are reasons why Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting will always be my #1 SF/Fighting game of all time. Multiple player archetypes, and styles, if you want to play aggressively, characters like Boxer are for you, however if you want a dominant footsie character, their is Chun-Li, you want that fireball zoner, Sagat is your guy...you want that passive/aggressive character who can do everything really well, Ryu is your guy, samething with Guile.
My goodness, I could go on, and on, and not everyone was "rush down", they played to their strengths, and my big gripe with SF6 is the Drive Rush itself...it's like..wait for hit, activate DR and go into a high-damaging option. I miss the old days of SF2, when two sweeps would equate to huge damage...but it's the past now sadly.
Regardless, out of the Big named fighting games out right now, SF6 is still the most enjoyable out of all of them to play.

I just purchased sf5 since i can now get rhe full version cheaply. I will do the same for sf6. I can't take piecemeal purchasing of characters etc. I dont want to be competitive, so this works for me.
Hit hit drive rush hit hit and super move. Thats all for every characters. After sf6, MK11 is way ahead of this game

SF6 is cater to the new audience! Its not the game I wanted, I dont like the constant 5050 drive rush mechanic and how the game is so relying on simplistic mechanics. all my friends havent even login into SF6 in over 5 months now, that should say alot..
I’m with you man, mechanics feels like 90’s game, If it was for that, I rather stick to the sf3 and sf2 , added to that, that inclusion stuff and avatar creation is a no no, we want to jump right away to fighting, not hanging around like some sort of sims city , for today’s standards this game doesn’t feel right in any sense

I would not mind in regular match, but in ranked it’s just not fair. And yes I could learn to play modern, but I want to stick to classic as I do since SFII on Super Famicom, while it is still possible. The controls are part of SF legacy.
@@Arnold_94Fighting games in ANY competitive setting is not for the weak and easily frustrated. I used both M&C for months to fully understand my fighter. It's a skill issue If you can't consistently win with Classic or Modern no excuses, you either don't fully understand what your fighter can do or lack timing & spacing fundamentals.
Fighting games are ALWAYS about adapting and overcoming the challenge. No shame in putting down a game if your not having fun but REAL fighting games are supposed to be hard.
