  • I did this 2003 Toyota Celica GT rod knock fix at home, this is a DIY at home with common tools, I had a spun bearing in cylinder #4 but replaced all of them. Pretty easy job and straight forward!! This should be the same process throughout all vehicles,
    I am not reliable for any damages or injuries caused by the individual who attempted this fix, this is an educational "How To" video; who ever attempts this repair is fully aware of the potential dangers and hazards

    Were you able to spin the crankshaft easily after you put the new bearings in?

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So yes and no ; when I took the spark plugs out ; it removed the compression within the engine ; but when the new bearings were on it did spin more freely ; with a little bit of resistance; but nothing crazy

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is still good
      This was done about a year ago (give or take) and I have put more than 8k miles on it
      I have replaced the oil twice (I change mine every 3k miles or so)
      Holding very strong

    To actually do it right! Pull the engine, pull the crankshaft, streaghten it and re machine it and replace the bearings, pull the rod a piston, recondition the rod and look for collapsed ring grooves and put it back together..... sounds like a lot of work ! But it's best to do it right!!

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Some people can not do that, due to multiple reasons, but this is a fix that works on a budget and I have not had any issues, if I could have pulled the motor I would have , but I am one of those people who does not have the proper equipment/tools for that job, this is a at home fix with common tools

    Was it leaking/drinking oil when you had this issue?

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So not really, from the timing chain tensioner it was leaking oil, so I replaced the part, and still have a small leak ; I am going to replace the bolts for it to see if that's it

    also what clearance will i need for the celica?

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will depend on how worn your crankshaft is ; and what the numbers are on your crankshaft and rod shafts
      Their is a formula that explains it but even with the same car of the same year it could be different

    whered u get that intake bro im tryna buy one

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I got the Intake from Amazon, it works really well for the price, but what I do is I buy the cheap parts on Amazon to "test" it out, and if it is good I keep it, and if it is bad I take it off and go buy the OME part (that happened with the fuel injectors) I got them from Amazon, but it was putting WAY to much fuel in, so I ordered the OME ones from AutoZone and put them on

      Sorry for the late response;
      So far so good, I have driven about 3500 miles , and did an oil change about 300 or so miles ago, however, I did add the oil stabilizer into the oil change, about 1/5th of it was the stabilizer and the rest was 5w-30 full synthetic oil
      But no issues at all, not a bad fix if the spun rod bearing didn't do to much damage

      @@C_Florida863nice I’m going to try on my 05 xterra. It doesn’t knock unless it’s fully warmed up and even then it only does it sometimes at 2k rpm

      @@hectordeleon7859 yeah definitely check it out, it could be combustion knock as well, have you cleaned the engine out with something like seafoam? Also adding a oil catch pan could help, if it is combustion knock, because it will help keep oil residue from entering your intake manifold, and keep it cleaner, I am about to add one to my car, definitely keep me updated on how it goes for you!

  • @samsbitter

    what are the torque specs?

    • @C_Florida863
      @C_Florida863  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the GT (1zz-fe) it is 16ft-pounds then again at 32ft-pounds,
      For the clearance, there are 3 standard bearings that are used, you will need to see what number is marked on your old one
      I will drop all of them here for you
      1) 1.486 − 1.490 (mm)
      2) 1.490 − 1.494 (mm)
      3) 1.494 − 1.498 (mm)
      It will show a number on the piston clamp and on the bearing its self to know what size you need,
      Also keep in mind that if you damaged your crankshaft you will need to sand and polish it yourself or send it off to be repaired
      Or just buy a new one
      Depending on that you will need to figure out if you need bigger bearings or not

  • @seantonge2236
    @seantonge2236 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    NEVER OIL THE BACKSIDE OF THE BEARING!!! It doesn't move and you are asking for the bearing to break loose and spin when you are really pushing the motor.
