Knife Threat Turns Into Complete Chaos

- This officer just responded to a gas station to detain a woman who after being accused of theft had armed herself with a knife and then locked herself in the bathroom claiming she was suffering a panic attack. Despite slicing herself through her arm, the female refused to give up even trying to undo the tourniquet by trying to bite it. It took an enormous amount of effort from both the officer and the husband to subdue the female but her energy bounced back in short intervals and she continued to resist. Her little performance art was finally coming to an end as the EMS staff rushed in with a gurney to transport her to the Ambulance and eventually to the jail. The female was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Theft, Assault against a Peace Officer, Threat of violence, Assault and interfering with a Peace Officer.

@@nicholasmargagliano1833not saying she wasn’t under the influence of something but severe depression can cause a condition called Capgras Syndrome where people believe everyone around them (sometimes even pets) were replaced with imposters. There’s also other delusional disorders that someone with mental illness can have to make them believe this way. It also can be a combination of both substance and mental illness since they tend to go hand in hand. If you think about it anyone who is deep into addiction has something really wrong with them to make them want to change how they feel when sober. This is why those with addiction have so much difficulty stopping the addictive substance. You may already know this but someone else reading this may gain some insight. It’s easy to be jaded towards those with addiction but it’s actually a very complicated issue that takes so many different services to treat addiction effectively. Personally I think rehab should be mandatory for some crimes related to substance use and should be 6 months to 1 year. Like a locked up type place. IMO.

I’ve never done drugs or had even 1 sip of alcohol, but the day after my dad passed away I was given a medication from my doctor that caused temporary psychosis. It. Felt. So. Real! I'm glad you are alright now! 💜💜💜
I too was once prescribed a medication that had caused me to have visual and auditory hallucinations, but nothing as severe as you experienced. Like you said, you never forget that horrible experience; it’s frightening to think how something that doesn’t actually exist can feel more like ‘reality’ than the things that truly are real.
@ Agreed. Sorry you’ve experienced something similar. It definitely has opened my heart to an understanding of issues that I heard of, but couldn’t truly sympathize with even though I did have empathy. Now, I can truly sympathize knowing that in our “right minds” we laugh at people thinking the person is making things up to avoid arrests (which I do think happens at times), but sometimes it’s actually what they are seeing/feeling. Terrifying doesn’t come close to describing that experience. Glad you’re better.
I have a feeling that this is a drug induced psychosis. I have been a RN for over 30+ years and this form of mental illness has increased significantly due to the methamphetamine crisis in this country. I hope she and her husband can get the help they need. Unfortunately, I see multi-familial addiction in a lot of these cases. What one body/mind can handle, others break. Sad state of affairs, but all too common.
As a nurse, do you know if there is there something that EMTs can carry that is safe to subdue/calm down combative people with that are clearly having psychotic episodes to help them? I know it is hard to tell whether it is chemically induced or mental health related, but you would hope there was something safe to inject quickly to calm these folks down so they don't continue to hurt themselves or others.
@@karmaspirit5045 as an MD myself: here in Belgium we have for an emergency call triage by a callcenter who are trained to know wether to sent an ambulance (trained ambulance staff and a nurse) or if a MUG is needed (medical urgency group translated I guess) thats a high speed vehicle that deploys staffed by a driver (read that as +- a race pilot), a anesthesiologist / specialy trained emergency docter and a specialised nurse they carry everything (reanimation material, intubation, all medication you can think off, we even have a bone saw in the car (guess how I figured that out.. once had to amputate a leg crushed under multi ton object on site..)
For cases like this a MUG is sent out and we bring the patient down with eg etumine (or if lower psychosis cases, high dose of valium) once stable they are with the doctor monitoring all this in the ambulance, in tandem followed by the mug car so docter has all the stuff if something goes wrong and rushed to the hospital (sometimes escorted by police that block all intersections so the transport can continue at HIGH speeds) or if needed we do a medivac by heli.
By the way: this all is basicly free for everyone as our national health care is funded by everyone contributing in his/her taxes... oh and we as docters dont earn the crazy (unneeded high) salaries as yours, that helps to ;)
It's very clear from the start this Deputy has a heart of gold. Mental Health is a serious issue in America and I value and appreciate every officer who approaches these intense situations with care and love. These people need to get the right help.
The right help would include people calling out their bullshit. Simply because anyone who slices across isn't serious about deleting themselves. As Meg Griffin once said "Across for attention, along for results". The mental health issue is someone being psychotic/sociopathic and not being held accountable for their toxic behavior. Being someone who's struggled with suicidal ideations (thoughts of doing it, very vivid at times) for over 26 years, I call people out when they're just being toxic. Hats off to the officers for dealing with the tense situation, but in fairness that girl was only doing that to avoid responsibility in some form.
@@RiptornRory only logical comment here.
This was a cry for attention. However anyone who does go to this length for attention does need help, but to create a scene like this was ridiculous.

This officer gave everything he had to save a woman who didn’t want to be saved! Why don’t we hear about events like this in the mainstream media?
We do. In local media in particular. A lot of "hero cop" stories in local news media.
You probably don't even watch much "mainstream" media. I know people like you. You're more so repeating what you have heard (in conservative media) about mainstream media, rather than actually have seen yourself.
@@renardocarsonCops making mistakes or stories that make them look bad get way more traction.
I know people like you. You're just parroting what you've heard about conservatives from liberal media. You should think for yourself. Anybody who approaches it logically can see that stories like this don't get nearly enough traction by comparison. If you actually watch, you'll see that.
I'm sharing this out. 😊
@@Mr.BusterHighman I've never heard anyone, anywhere, discuss the topic of WHERE, the most positive stories on police are published. So I can't "parrot" something, that I've never heard any commentor or journalist discuss. This conversation I am having with you here and now, is my first foray into the tooic. But I welcome the discussion. ☺
After reading your comment earlier, I reflected on your point. And what came to my mind immediately, was positive stories on specific individual cops, that I can recall seeing, on local news broadcasts that I have watched.
I thought a little more this afternoon about your contention, and the following occurred to me as well:
I don't know how old you are, but I'm old enough to remember first hand, things like the Rodney King police beating of the early 1990s. That was such a big deal, because no focus like that (and a video to serve as proof that the problem was real) had ever previously been given to police misconduct. There had been newspaper and other stories on tension between all white police forces, in predominately black cities and neighborhoods. But not the "George Floyd type" of CLOSE SCRUTINY on police mistreatment of black citizens, that has become common in the past 10 or 15 years. But from Rodney King in the 90s, to Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in the mid 2010s, I'm hard pressed to think of another time where there was a lot of negative national media attention, given to police. Can YOU think of ONE case, or the name of ONE alleged victim of police misconduct, that got widespread media attention between the early 90s, and the 2010s? I don't think I can. I believe that really was like a 20 or 25 year period, where police brutality or racism in policing, got zero national media attention. And my guess is, that it is your desire that a problem like that get no attention. Correct? If a lot of police, in a lot places like my native Detroit, or my dad's rural Georgia where he grew up, routinely abused black people, you don't give a damn, right? Matter of fact, cops mistreating and profiling someone like me, probably pleases you. You appreciate the cops that do it. You feel like I deserve it, by virtue of me being a member of a violent, animal-like race of people. Am I close to accurately describing your thinking?
So based on things like my own personal experience, the experiences of many of my closest friends, my family history, my knowledge of American history etc.... I think it is good that police misconduct get some media attention. I don't think misconduct should be all that we focus on as it relates to police and policing, but part of what we examine as a society.
There are a lot of good positive portrayals of cops in both our news, and entertainment media. I hear "first responders" honored so much, after most any bad tragedy, natural disaster or terrorist attack that we as a nation suffer through. I'm not saying that all media focus on cops is fair and even handed. There are definitely cop haters in this world. No doubt about it. And I challenged them on an app like this, and in my real life. But being fair about police, does not mean pretending like in many places, at many times throughout history, there hasn't been some HORRIBLY unjust police officers and entire police departments! One of my best 6 or 7 friends just retired as a Los Angeles Police Deoatment Detective. He has told me stories that have shaped my view of the way in which police can be great, and also be very evil. One of my former college roommates studied Criminal Justice while we both were students, (and has also recently retired after putting in 25 years in a college town) and I will never forget things he taught me about racial bias in police training and practices.
Well I've gone on long enough. Lol But this is an issue near and dear to my heart. As a general matter, I have a lot of love and appreciation for cops. The cops in the cities near and where I currently live, are GREAT for the most part. I have nothing bad to say about them. All good stories. BUT....I am not so stupid, or naive to think that police are the same everywhere! It's just DUMB to assume/pretend that. Police and Police Departments are like everything else. Some good. Some bad. I'm in favor of the media covering both. And the media does. Some media in a better fashion than others. But it's totally untrue to say cops only receive negative media attention. For long stretches of time, they have received almost no negative scrutiny at all, in our mainstream media. It ebbs and flows. Starts and stops. But it has never been, across the board, all negative against them.
How about Officer Derrick Chauvin who tried to restrain someone?
While the guy might have been a bit annoying it’s nice to see him trying to help some instead of yelling at the cops.
Yes, that is quite good, but the officer still runs the risk of allowing the man to accidentally make things worse instead of better because of his proximity. I think it would have been safer if someone else restrained her instead, like a citizen or backup.
@@breecegriffith5896 I agree. She's going through a psychotic episode and those can very easily turn violent over nothing. Even if he's the best husband in the world, if she's not convinced the people around her are real, then she could come to the conclusions that they're there to hurt her and attack.
It's better than hearing a bunch of banshees yelling. 😉
The officer normally judges in the moment if they are helping or hindering. By him talking to her and trying to calm her, while helping restrain her he was more helpful then harm in this situation so they let him be a part of it.

Wow, "performance art" is cruel. She's clearly having some kind of psychotic episode. The old-guy husband was being far more dramatic. I doubt he's helping her much.
Wow. One can only hope and wish to have a spouse that dedicated. God bless these three individuals. I really hope they’re all doing well.
BIG THUMBS DOWN TO THE NARRATOR! FRICKING INSENSITIVE AS HELL. Thank God they were able to help Amber. Mental Illness does not discriminate. There but for the grace of God, this could be any of us. No one hopes to grow up one day and have a crisis and attempt to end their life! Great job to all involved in helping her. Compassion is what we ALL need.
Amazing coincidence how it happened right as she was about to be arrested for theft.
@mikeg8630 Call it whatever works for you. Mental illness is real whether you steal or not and there but for God's grace, it could be you, me, or anyone. It is not anything we grow up hoping to have.
That officer got his workout for the day! Geezus
Cops don’t get paid enough for this shit
Cop might not be real, but that taser certainly turned out to be very real.
That door she faceplanted into seemed pretty legit too
What an AMAZING husband and an AMAZING cop. You both did such a great job under high pressure.
Damn that wasn't a knife that was a little pirate sword 😳
That's not just a panic attack, that's a full on mental break
🚨🚨 CLICK BAIT 🚨🚨🚨
THIS IS ABOUT A MENTALLY ILL WOMAN. NOT A THIEF
@17:54 The last "baby" of 6,437 times he said it.
I’ve watched a lot of these and this is the first one that made me tear up. Everyone should be loved the way her husband loves her. Everyone needs a person to bring them out of the dark. I’m glad she had her husband and this officer that day.
My panic attacks have never made me feel like taking a knife out. I hope she gets the help she needs!! I’ve learned from watching these body cam footage to be more empathetic towards everyone!! The officer did a fantastic job in saving her life!! Feel better Amber!!
Her husband was gold! He was close to calm her down but also respectful and helpful towards the officer and ems, and had total faith in that they knew what they were doing. I hope they get a long peaceful life together!
12:01 Narrator - that was uncalled for! This was NOT performance art! This was real!
Got an issue, here's a tissue 🤧
I agree, it's just so heartless. No compassion or understanding for the situation unfolding even if she did have a knife. She was obviously seeing things that weren't there! Absolute fail on this one.
Amazing coincidence how it happened right as she was about to be arrested for theft.
Oh this poor girl if she’s never been like this before her mental health must have been horrible. and the husband, he sounded devastated, I can’t imagine watching your love bleed out, he was so strong thru this. I hope they can heal and find some peace together. His begging shattered my heart, her saying“ I tried to do it right” 💔
I hope she found the help she so desperately needed.
Someone looking you in the eyes and saying, “You’re not real” has to be wild.
Performance art!!! How dare they say that
I hope they are able to help the poor woman. Shes lost it, and Im just glad that the officer were able to restrain her without having to resort to lethal force to protect themselves.
11:50 This is terribly sad and it was offensive that this channel said this was “performance art” on her part. Shame on you.
Ok ❄️
These people shouldn’t be in public
@@mnmsaregood1 I know this country is going backwards but are we really going back to locking mentally ill people in a back room and pretending they don't exist?
I won't wish ill upon you, but I will wish that you are treated with the same amount of compassion you give to others in pain and need.
Several of the latest uploads have been getting steadily more rude like that. I like the content of the channel, but I'll likely go to another channel with the same videos and no narration.
@@mnmsaregood1 screw off. I’m the farthest thing from a snowflake and if you can’t see the difference between people who really need help and people who are just criminals or ridiculous. You should stay in your mom’s basement.
Where is fuckin backup !?!??!?!?
A disturbed person with a knife is extremely dangerous.
Some knives can go through body armour like tissue paper, and there is not much skill required to use a kitchen knife.
Mental issues make everything worse if the person is suicidal; they dont give a damn, they will act.
I'm sorry for her and her husband. This is a horrible day for both of them.
I’m assuming that this is some sort of AI voice over.
It says ..’Her little performance art’….one thing this was not is an act.
She is clearly having a serious…very serious psychotic break. It’s more than likely luck that she didn’t do herself way more damage…
I hope the hospital can help her. I was married to a man who had breaks like this…one thing it is not is fake or a joke. In fact I’m not sure this should be on TH-cam with her face uncovered….shes very ill….should it really be for public consumption?
I’m not sure what’s worse, being tazed or laying on a bathroom floor of a gas station….
So very sad 😔 I hope she gets help and recovers. What a wonderful husband
What does the narrator mean by performance art! It's like he's down playing a mental crisis. It's also why so many don't get the proper help. Jail is not where she should be. 🙏🏿
Kudos to the officer and prayers for the lady.💙💙
Horrible situation. Another video of how Mental health needs to be addressed.
Amazing coincidence how it happened right as she was about to be arrested for theft.
I have watched a lot of these videos on this channel and others. None of them have made me cry like this one. The unwillingness of the amazing officer and husband to let her go was phenomenal. The officer, likely going against protocol, allowing the husband to help try to talk her down probably saved her life.
The pain in this poor mans voice is heartbreaking.... this officer genuinely wanted to help her. I really hope she gets the help she needs, no one wants to live this way 😢
I'll get slammed here I guess but I think it's ridiculous that we as a society are deemed too sensitive to see real blood.
The pain frustration and desperation in her husbands voice was not heart breaking it was heart shattering. Just by his voice he had to have been dealing with this for a long time and it all errupted into that. Though once she came under as much control as possible he seemed to be relieved knowing she will get the help she needs. Doesnt matter if she was acting like she was mentally breaking down it was 100% real to the husband and that was real pain real frustration real fear pouring outta him. This lady is lucky to have someone who will never let her go through this kinda stuff alone. Like he said if she fights he fights with her. I hope she can see that......
