Locals even talk about that. I was just there. It is an amazing place but they got hit hard with millionaire’s from NY and other places during covid hell and have had a post covid building boom that’s pricing locals and working people out. $3-4 million dollar homes are the average now in the highlands. Building is 3-5 years backed up, and home owners are having to put $50K down just to be on a builder’s wait list that is 3-5 years out! Not earning any interest on that $50K. “But they just keep coming” said a local business owner to me on Thursday. He’s had his best year in 30 years so he’s a little bit torn about it all. The profits are good for him right now. His home value has gone up too, but regular folk can’t afford to live there now. For one, there isn’t enough affordable housing for those building the homes. It’s a winding way up and down that mountain from all sides.
