In Haitian lore, we have spirits called lwa. These spirits are sometimes ancestors, sometimes Gods, and sometimes greater. In our lore, the water spirits (known as simbi) and the mermaids are known to take people under the water with them. Unlike European and Greco-Roman lore, the water spirits of Haiti (actually ALL Arawak tribes have this lore) do not drown you but embue with power, knowledge, or partnership (with the underwater deity) BUT you HAVE to do EVERYTHING they say, you cannot miss or pine for home, and time moves differently. It seems like them catching him interfered with the plans of the water deity (Haitians call her La Sirene but there are others like Filomez) and because of that She decided to punish them. The man speaking Haitian Kreyol was supposed to be a clue to the nature of what was haunting them. I wish it was longer though. I enjoyed it.
@@sauceoftheboot people know us as just being poor and doing voodoo but our religion js actually the culture that the Arawak Indians and Displaced Africans combined. This was really good! Loved the atmosphere of the movie! I loved that shot from underwater looking up at the boat, great shot!! It ended too quickly! I wanted to know what that thing was coming up from the water. Great job to all involved!! Creepy movie!
I'm guessing some sort of creature on the bottom of the ocean and the noises you were hearing sounded like people attached to it... Screaming or something I don't know. But if you look closely you can see the shapes.
It looked like some giant mass of people who have ended up in the ocean over the centuries. From explorers, smugglers, pirate ships, slave ships, fishing vessels, probably even military ships sunk during past wars. Something down there collects people and can keep them alive to feed off of. That’s why the screaming, they’re still alive.
He said "She's coming" so most likely it was the lwa. When you get taken and you dont do what they say, you either get sent back or you get punished or some variation of that.
u cant because it is purposely unfinished and half made in order to appeal to those who like supposed "short" and finish the story for ur self "modern "films.
we're introduced to human scenario of humans smuggling themselves to some place they pick up a straggler who has seen/escaped something (sea devil) maybe straggler infects them or something they argue to save him or get rid of him fisherman is affected by the paranormal thing illegal immigrants choose to abandon fisherman's boat but sea devil was still around it shows up at the end and seems to be a creature covered in barnacles they likely die or maybe the cycle repeats depending on how the viewer wants to flesh out the creature in their heads
@@missyTL Alter doesn't make any films, they're just a platform who distribute the films other people make. As for potential solutions, updating once a week could work. Their approach for channel growth has become unsustainable and the content quality has gone downhill because of that. As long as people don't care, it won't be a problem, fortunately for them.
Bad acting. Confusing storyline. Very unsatisfactory. Maybe there's a deeper meaning somewhere in there, but i just didn't get it. No horror either... just managed to trigger my trypophobia. 1/10
It’s like the people shooting it and acting actually fell asleep at times or zoned completely out. They just stare at a spot for several seconds, zero words, zero movement, just like oh we are filming ? Plot 2/10, photography and makeup 4/10,
LMFAOOO this story ain’t even true because I looked it up on google multiple times and not one thing came up about it. But nice try Alter. Keep up the good work. 😂😊

Isnt that why he grabbed the guys hand and dragged it on his face barnacles
Same!
*Who lives in a pineapple under the sea.*
This guy. Definitely this guy.
Barnacle Boy! 🤣
Ngl he wouldn't have had to ask me twice to " put him back".
Lmao right 🤣🤣🤣
man knows what he wants, who am I to ignore his wishes
He wouldn’t have had to ask period.
💯👍
R'lyeh! I rarely see short horror films that I find halfway decent. This one thoroughly impresses me. Very Lovecraftian.
That ending! Now we need a sequel asap
Sometimes you have to throw your catch back. This was one of those times.

Should have been longer. Enjoyed it though . Was it about mermaids or Haitian loas? The guy didn't say kiyès ki tap vinn pou li an

@@papajaighh2605 I find this very interesting. How can I find more information other than Google please?

Mild trypophobic, I was itching to scrap those and was simultaneously closing eyes!

Right making my skin itch
The real barnacle boy 😭
Certified Gold!!!!!
Not everything is on Google. Remember that it's people who put out information in it.🎉
So mermaid 🧜♀️/barnacle monster wants her toy back?
this coulda been a slideshow
but cool story
it's like a director had access to a boat and wanted to do a horror short with it

@knaveofchalices that's how I took it too, a bunch of bodies with all those things over them, that are making me itch all over right now, barnacles
@@knaveofchalices yep. You can hear the screams and see them moving around if you look closely.
Sea devil❌ pineapple devil ✅😂😂😂
Alter then 🔥
Alter now 💀☠️.
I got up to 4 minutes and I'm done that really wigged me out
Why did it cut off the end with Alter ads 😮
The ending was to say the least was unappealing 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
Why didn’t they throw him back
Fr
Please make a sequel 🙏
Why is everything so hard to see?
It's always so bloody dark looking no matter how bright I make my screen argh
What the heck was that floating in the water!?
It's hard to tell, but it looked like a mass of bodies.
A mass of screaming barnacled human bodies stuck together as a single entity.
That is some Junji Ito-tier shit right there.

Lol the captions say (singing in foreign language) when Sister Nancy is clearly singing in english.
Yep, not everyone speaks English, so it is a foreign language to many.
The real horror is the amount of content Alter recycles.
Well it's not their fault.... short films takes time to make...

This made no sense when I saw it on Dust a long time ago and it still makes no sense. Didn't fish... I meant, didn't finish.
so what the hell was on the rock island at the end could not make out what it was

It’s Godzilla 🦖

They recycle tons of content, get used to it, it's getting worse and worse.
What's that song at the beginning
GURL R U TALKING I CANT HEAR UUU THR WIFI IS SHITY😭😭😭🥵
Hello
Excelente corto 👍 una pregunta como se llama la canción que ponen de fondo al principio de la película 🎥 😊
Bam Bam by Sister Nancy. It's an old-school reggae song.
Poor story. Worst bgm and awful acting. Damn who made this meaningless and hopeless short.
Have to agree. I'm a big fan of beginning middle and end. This could be be summed up as weird thing happened, no idea why how or what happened.
Ya mama
So what happened???? Wz gettn good 😢😢😢😢😢
Really great film, way above the usual Alter fodder. Lovecraftian vibes. The most anti-climactic fade-out at the end, why do you have to do that?
