Toccata in E BWV 566a played by David Hillary on the Organ of Sacred Trinity Church in Salford

  • This grand piece is thought to be an early work by the young JS Bach and shows a lot of influence of his idol, Dietrich Buxtehude. Bach was such a Buxtehude fanboy that he walked 200 miles to see him! There are two manuscripts for this piece, one in C and one in E, one called a Toccata and the other a Prelude. Other than that, it's the same. I generally play this piece at Advent and Christmas, hence the purple lighting. You might also spot one of our wonderful Ron Redshaw pictures.
