I don't usually combo Dead Spike, but I think 5B, 5C, Hell's Fang > Additional Attack, Dead Spike > 1st Followup > 2nd Followup, 236236A (2x Quarter-Circle Forward A) would work.
[Screeches] HATE that challenge. You have to have a mini delay between GH and the additional attack so that puts you closer to the ground so you can make a high jump and start the air combo. The dummy recovers after the second C all the time for me. So irritating.
He can actually cancel one distortion into another, he builds up meter much faster, and the distortion that u saw where he can grab his opponents can only happen when in overdrive.

When you are Unlimited Ragna, Dead Spike has two follow-up moves. Just keep doing 214D (Quarter-Circle Back D) two more times.
it looks so difficult to combo with Ragna to be honest, i have crappy memory problems so i cant get past mission 18 which is annoying

It's the throw combo transition into Hade's gauntlet + Kick and then the air cancel combo which i can't react fast enough to reach the range
