    The Superconductor rings easily make some of the most beautiful rings, I remember the obsidian one. They all looks so good

    I just found your channel the other day, and I am just in love with the rings you've made. I can also just watch metal get carved away on the lathe all day.

    Please make a video on how to care for these exotic rings long term. Do's and don'ts please! I have the timascus obsidian ring as my wedding ring and just love the color and shape and would love to keep it that way till I die haha.
    Love your work absolutely beautiful Patrick. This video is going in the right direction of back to your basics and I love that! Keep it up

    I love those rings, one day I'll get one. I wonder how a ring would look making one in the opposite direction, probably have to be fairly wide, maybe if it is cut diagonally?

    Is the super conductor still a superconductor once it’s been cut that much no no cut trimmed played with as it were.

    Is it possible to anodise the titanium once this ring has been brought together?

  • @SkylerAnderson
    @SkylerAnderson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You should send one of these sections to a blacksmith to be heated and twisted before cutting.

  • @safiremorningstar
    @safiremorningstar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you do with your scraps of titanium? Do you know the pieces that are coming out as your carving and cutting the titanium to make the ring you don’t throw it away do you?

  • @Bloodray19
    @Bloodray19 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Hey, Patrick. I think I've made the exact same comment a couple of years ago, but why don't you just make the inner ring to a really tight fit, and then just cool it down with liquid nitrogen or dry ice, to make it shring, drop it in the outer ring (or press it. Depends on how much it shrinks) and it'd come back to it's original size and be permanently stuck inside. I believe it's a much stronger and more relyable bond, than CA

    • @ColinsFilms
      @ColinsFilms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't watched any of his videos for a couple of years, because of the poor machining, and I see he has got no better. He really needs to do an engineering course to learn something that he can apply to what he is doing, or as @andybaldman said, he just doesn't care. For the prices he sells his items at, you would think he would put more care into his workmanship.

    Would you be able to make a sphere from the super conductor that was hollow in the center or would it lose being a super conductor if it was not hollowed in the center like a sphere complete sphere it would probably thread together you know you tighten it once it’s done at the top to make the complete sphere or would you have to have that 3-D print it I’m just wondering there’s some thing I’m trying to make that I have the design for I just not sure how to put it together and part of it is a certain type of sphere.

    Would you be interested in sending scraps of the leftovers of the ring making such as the titanium and the super conductor scraps I am very curious is that a project I’m trying to do if I can do it with these materials namely scrap materials you know those little find fluffy bits that you finish when you were cutting it.

      If it was machined correctly, it would be a press fit and you then don't need any glue or solder.

    Why did you glue two pieces together? I was thinking you'd make external piece undersize and then heat it up and insert internal part. No glue needed.

  • @darkestaxe3415
    @darkestaxe3415 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I'm pretty sure he got confused about what type of superconductor he has. I think that's a high-voltage transmission core for underground high-voltage transmission. Designed to have low (non zero) resistance and hold up to thermal and electrical stress from extreme current at very high voltages. Transmission cores are large, like the thing he has, and are commonly have internal cores of different materials running through them.
    What he describes, as used in superconductor magnets, are usually tiny very thin wires. Because they have 0 resistance there's little reason for their superconducting cores to be bigger then a hair in diameter.

    You’re basically using oxidization on the copper that’s in the ring right it should say in the ring right I’m using voice to text doesn’t always put things right.

  • @94Di

    bro, one suggestion. Have you ever heard of friction welding? How about welding two of the most beautiful shaped metals, like idk, meteorite with superconductor, and then just cutting one piece few inches from were the welding was formed? Imagine that combination of metals and colours. Mind blowing.

    • @Penguun
      @Penguun 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly welding and friction welding aren't that easy, and you can't really weld superconductor to meteorite, nor can you really friction weld the right together. Given how the different metals adhere to eachother(or lack there of) they wouldn't actually connect, not to mention the different melting points would seriously screw up the welding attempts

    • @94Di
      @94Di 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Penguun Yeah, nah, i know they are very different metals and have different composition, different melting points, but i just love the art of mixing metals. Damascus, mokumegane, the only 2 processes I know. I've seen though Nikel and Copper damascus. I think u can make damascus from metals that have similar priorities only. Im a newbie but I really want to get into this world of crafting and blacksmiting

    4:50 WOOOW!!! How obnoxious is it that after turning the volume down NOW I CAN BARELY HEAR YOU!!! Please take into consideration your suffocating volume levels in your videos so it's a more friendlier experience... btw the ring is looking pretty sweet so far 😊
