Thanks for watching! Let me know what you thought of the style we used in this video, I tried to keep talking to a minimum and just focus on the making.

      Question:
How do you stop the copper from tarnishing and staining your finger?
      Thanks Patrick.

Me laying down, watching this in my pjs: “Does he need to cut THAT big of a piece of copper to made a ring blank?”
Voice in my head: “And just how many rings have YOU made?”
Me: “Fair point. I’m shutting up now.”

      Lynn ,
You asked a very legitimate question. The diameter of the copper rod is going to depend on the finished ring size .
As an example , for some of us , shall we say with larger paw prints x(my wedding band fits a quarter inside with room to spare , no I'm not fat , I'm fluffy) l would need to start with 1. 25" stock . Thank God I did not become a proctologist .😁

I love seeing copper and malachite together because actual malachite can be crushed to get copper. I doubt the same is true for "trustone" malachite, which I assume is a man-made resin of some kind given the way it cuts instead of shattering, but the fact remains that these elements share history. Most people neglect to mention, or are unaware of, this stone's intrinsic connection to this metal. That along with the fact that people rarely create using copper because their customers fear the "green ring," means this is one of the few videos I've seen featuring copper and malachite together. People will use everything but copper even if they know the connection... So, thanks for that.

    Patrick ,
As a longtime lover of malachite, l find this ring to be beautiful.
As a long time rockhound , l feel l must pass on a few warnings:
Malachite dust is highly toxic , along with turquoise, and chrysocolla, 2 other copper based mineral used in jewelry making . Use gloves when handling any of these minerals, a face mask when working around them if dust is going to be created .
One method l have found helpful is to stabilize worksble sized pieces in resin using a pressure pot method. Make a mold form out of aluminum foil , small box , or any container just slightly larger than the piece you want to stabilize. This way you are not wasting resin or extra time getting the resin down to the size of the piece you are working with . Under pressure the resin will penetrate pores in the mineral and bond with some of the dust . It will not under any circumstances be a reason to override safety measures ! AGAIN WEAR CLOVES , MASK, AND SHOWER AFTER YOUR DONE . Just saying folks if you want to work with these beautiful minerals , safety first .
Sorry for running on , but the health hazards can shorten your life, check out articles regarding toxicity of copper based minerals.

I bought four pure copper compact LED flashlights from CountyComm. I only opened one each of the AAA, and CR123 lights, and the patina they take on is great. I could easily clean them, but I like them just as they are. One of them is always part of my every day carry. No green at all.
