    Awesome review on a great looking timepiece. Marc is really capitalizing on a huge segment of the market that Seiko and Orient are neglecting. I'd really love to see him make the value proposition even better by adding a few minor tweaks: applied logo, framed date window, female end link. Even if he raised the price another $25 or so, it would still be the best microbrand out there in terms of the specs they offer.

    • @JustWatches1
      @JustWatches1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I would greatly prefer a female end link! I'm okay with the logo (it's lumed), but a date frame would round out the dial nicely :)

    Great review, thanks for taking the time. I'm irked I didn't find out about the Islander 38mm line u til this emerald beauty was sold out, and dismayed that it will not be returning. I think I'm gonna scratch the itch, though, with the green Bayport 40mm. It does not have a sapphire dome, though, Marc went with a flat crystal (sort of a head-scratcher but OK). I really like the H link bracelet the Bayports come on. Not crazy about the 3 o'clock, guardless crown. Congrats on your purchase; wear it well 👍

    • @JustWatches1
      @JustWatches1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't know he discontinued these - bummer! I like the Bayport plan, not quite the same, but I there have been improvements in the Islander line that you will take advantage of with the newer versions (negative endlinks, better claps, etc.)

    Nice review, and one of the few I have seen Marc’s fellow TH-camrs do of the watch, so hats off for actually reviewing the watch. I always like to get a 2nd opinion from the obvious fan club that is represented in Marc’s chat for the watch. Overall I think it does represent a great watch, but I do like to hear some 3rd party opinions, so thanks for buying it and reviewing it!
    I love the selection that Marc has put in place, there is truly something for every colour taste and and bezel taste out there..😂 I have not pulled the trigger yet, but plan to in the next year or so, I have to pace my purchases, and have a big one planned for this year. That said, he keeps coming out with better and better watches so I think the wait will be well worth it.
    I also love his channel for content, as he educates the community and gives us a peak into a what it is like to make and sell a watch brand. I will have to find that video on the whole day/date when not to set (10-2) as I have a watch that no longer manually sets the day date, but it does change when you change the time. I want to take it apart and see if I can fix it myself..

    • @JustWatches1
      @JustWatches1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comments. I am a bit of a Marc fan boy, but I would definitely say something if I didn't like the watch. It's solid!
      Yes, I have been following his releases and agree, they keep getting better. Good for you for saving for a big purchase, I am always chasing affordables.
      What watch do you have that doesn't quick set? Depending on the movement the calendar side of a watch is easier to fix and wouldn't require re-oiling anything.

    • @gimbydude491
      @gimbydude491 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just Watches I have only been in the hobby of collecting for about a year, so I too am 99.9999999% chasing affordable as well...😂 so no surprise that the watch with the issue is an AliExpress Guanqin with a Miyota 8205. I think I will take it apart to give it a look, as I have other dress style watches that “replace” it. I like to tinker, so this is a good excuse. 😇
      I am currently saving for a SARX055. I have been eying it for a while, and given it is my 55th year on earth, I decided that was a sign of sorts, so will narrow down the vendors soon with some price quotes and pull that trigger. Not a grail watch, but a large step up for my collection. And yes, I still chase affordables that I like the look and quality of. Probably always will.

    • @JustWatches1
      @JustWatches1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gimbydude491 The Miyota is a tricky movement. I tinker a bit too, and have yet to master that one. I don't have a service diagram for that one, but there is a nice tear down here:
      www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?/topic/81872-strip-down-service-of-miyota-8215-automatic-watch-movement-part1/
      If you haven't tinkered before, I wouldn't try on a watch you are about the first time, you will lose parts and springs until you master the technique for each. For example that date corrector spring on figure 7 would happily fly away at the slightest wrong touch.
      I can't recommend the sarx055 enough. That is my only "big watch purchase" and I'm still in love with it two years later (which is rare for me). Happy hunting and fixing!

    2:14 its a seiko nh36 (day and date). one thing to note: it says 200M for WR but it's not certified tested for that depth. ISO tested watches can say DIVERS on the dial.

      @bondpit8750 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good catch by the OP. “Watch and learn” lol. I know Island Watch, (Mark) saw an opportunity, when probably one of his best selling lines, the SKX, was discontinued by Seiko and he jumped in to fill the void but it bothers me that it’s basically a rip off of Seiko, even though it delivers a great value for the features offered. I’m disappointed that Seiko didn’t upgrade/update the SKX and that Mark, especially as an authorized Seiko dealer, took the easy way out and just did a Chinese sourced catalog homage to the venerable SKX design. I get WHY but I don’t like it much. If I wanted that in a watch, I’d source the case, movement, etc and build it myself. Way cooler that way. That’s just me. Nice review tho’.

      @bondpit8750 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      plm2879, Me too, i’ve got the SKX173 variant. I don’t know the reasons why Seiko changed the lineup as they did but I would have preferred a hacking movement upgrade in the SKX,, that would have justified a price increase and kept a classic in the lineup. Customizers could still do their thing as they wish but for guys like me, you’d still have a certified Diver tool watch to bang around in and back up your more expensive pieces. Bringing the SKX case design over to the 5 line and ditching the screw down is a fail for me, upgraded movement aside. At least the Islander knock offs have a screw down crown, if not a certified diver.

    • @okihaveaname
      @okihaveaname 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bondpit8750 agreed, an updated skx would've been great for us watch guys. But I'm guessing the profit margin is better on the 5kx. and the king turtle meh, they chose that case over skx idk. 🤷‍♂️

    • @JustWatches1
      @JustWatches1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFlyrodder68 Yes, I find watches run slower on wrist. Generally, what I do is time it on the wrist for a number of days and see how it is running on wrist. Then I'll adjust the rate against how it runs on wrist and not how it runs on the timegrapher. I agree faster is way better, because it is so much easier to hack the watch to bleed off a few seconds versus if it is running slow.

Having that familiar case with all of the things that everyone wishes Seiko did with the SKX, including things actually lining up like they should, for a similar price to what SKXs retailed at before they were discontinued... I mean, an SKX modded to these specs would probably cost like $500-$600 all in if you can get a decent price for the watch itself, and then the ISO rating would be void, which was one of the biggest reasons for the cost of the SKXs in the first place.
