I have been watching reviews on the new Rockshox suspension stuff all morning. I must say that this is the most in depth analysis of the the bunch. Thanks Doddy! 🤘
The Green Lyriks look nice, but they should have stuck with Red - that shouted 'Ultimate' whereas the Green shouts 'colour matching OEM' (and there are a lot of colours it won't match with). Really nice progression of internal tech here and the prices are still relatively sensible. I wonder what will happen to the Yari and Domain - they seem pretty redundant in the range now?
@@joec8899 the colour is irrelevant, it is the branding. Lyrik Ultimates have been branded red for a while...the Green just doesn't pop in the same way. The same could be said for the Grey Zebs, but they have stuck with that branding, so the message is consistent.
For racing ok,but it has to have its end because your skills wil be irelevant at some point so it will be pointless in sportly speaking. The next problem is the fact that most bikes are sold to recreative riders so with so much complications and high tech you will be chained to service like you drive F18 .Its also pointless.
@@sluzbazaorganizacijucentra4050 I actually find these damper improvements easier to understand in my mind in both potential tuning and service. The damper design while differant in forum from my motorsports dampers I'm more experienced with in function they operate the same. I have had a heck of a time tuning my mtb suspension due in part to adjustments not giving me intend results. My theory and belief in suspension is the coil or air spring should only hold you at your desired sag. From there the damper portion of the shock or fork should do the rest of the tuning. With all the current generation of suspension I have used damper adjustments are really just a suggestion on how you want things to change things but the only real change is in either coil weight, air pressure, and volume. Not ideal to me anyways.
@@sluzbazaorganizacijucentra4050 You really have no idea what the damper improvements mean, just say you don't understand it instead of blurting out a ton of random stuff that doesn't make sense.
I'm pleased they did a ground up design with no compromise even though I can not use the new parts on my fork , faster progress and a clear improvement. Now waiting on the Huck to flat video
Awesome video. Super comprehensive, this is what makes GMBN Tech so good. This was great timing for me as I have been scouring the corners of the internet to find a Charger 2.1 damper to upgrade my Zeb. I will wait for the new one though now, it looks awesome. Also really interested in the new Super Delux air shocks. I really want to upgrade my Trek Rail rear shock. I dont want to go Fox and the standard RS Super Delux doesnt fit. I was about to pull the trigger on a Thru shaft version but these 2023 models look like they may have a smaller piggy back so I will hold off until I figure out it they fit. Any info on availability?
What I love n this channel is that no one speaks down to you the information is delivered excellently you can feel the love/excitement for the bikes & tech
I love the green Lyrik, that is my favourite product for the year 2023. Paired with super deluxe ultimate coil with the new hydraulic bottom out would be a dream.
This is a fantastic video. The amount of tech that has come out since my 2014 Pike is mindblowing. I’ve done a few small updates like the Luftkappe and RC3 damper but I reckon these updates would make a huge difference in ride dynamic. Thanks Doddy!
I'm very confused would the pike be a good upgrade for my nukeproof scout 290 which currently has fitted the Rock shox Recon silver RL 140mm ? I do majority of riding on this bike on forest/bike park trails but feel the current fork is lacking in some way !Please help
I'm pretty intrigued by the hydraulic bottom out on the air shocks but given that it's "optional", how would you know if an aftermarket super deluxe model you are purchasing has that feature? I don't see it listed or even mentioned on any of the major retailers' websites.
Thank you Doddy and the GMBN team for the most comprehensive review yet of the new RockShox offerings! I can't wait for the comparison review video of the new RockShox vs. Fox equivalents!! (wink wink nod nod)
the zeb air spring looks like a normal air spring with a luftkappe on top from vorsprung. And it makes sense, bigger stanchions longer travel a bigger negative air spring with a volume spacer in the positive. Its good to see something from after market came to OEM, but fox had also a few years a go, a prototype air spring like this one, on a fox 40 but i think it might have been from Mojo.
Any new SID? Looking at getting a 120mm SID Select but waiting for an update as talking with many local shops, the first edition was having its share of warranty issues.
Pike Ultimate for my new frame. I'm really liking the increased bushing overlap. Thanks Doddy, for all the details. I don't need to watch any other reviews. Cheers!
That pistachio lyrik definitely looked like the e-rated lyrik ultimate I used to have. Sold it coz I didn't like how I have to use an adapter to fit it on my regular headtube since it's super tapered
The GRIP2 Damper also has an IFP System and I think it also has the oil bleeding holes. Though I find that I run compression pretty far open on the GRIP2 and it is a nice improvement from rock shox that they made the range of compression so useful. The buttercups are a very nice feature too but I wonder why it hasn't been around on other forks (than the flight attendents) yet because it's so simple.
great detailed video Doddy, thanks man! Love all the changes besides one - lyrik no longer being 170mm travel option? that will narrow down the choices for Zeb, Domain, or other brands for bike brands.... other than that, new tech looks really cool ^^
The Zeb is the most revolutionary fork we've seen for a while. 190mm in a single crown opens up way more set ups. We've seen Semenuk run these at Rampage allowing him to throw bars, something we haven't really had before in freeride. These also bridge that last gap between enduro and downhill allowing us to build hard-core downhill bikes using enduro frames, great if you are an aggressive rider but can't afford two rigs. Even for pure downhill they offer an advantage by ditching a fair bit of weight and from high up too.
Looks like this is admitting the c1 debonair airspring was wrong all along now that they have once again moved the piston seal relative to the equalisation port back to where it was on the b1 debonair airspring configuration!
Which one is more comfortable, 2023 Zeb due to butter cups (but stiffer) vs 2021 Lyric Ultimate (less stiff but no buttercups). Concern is hand/arm fatigue.
You had me untill I heard that none of those internal upgrades can be retro-fitted to older 35mm forks. I have a 2019 Lyric where the dampener needs a full strip down and considering how much that would cost from a fork tuning company, I am considering just replacing it with new instead. When I saw this video I thought that I could instead replace that dampener with the latest tech and get a performace upgrade, so now I am disapointed. @rockshox please treat your existing costomer right, and release versions of those imporved air springs and dampeners that will fit older forks.
Rockshox or SRAM as a whole really are on the warpath in more recent years. The level of tech this company is producing is brilliant. Shimano and especially Fox really are simply riding on their brand names almost entirely at this point. I love SRAM and if they were to release a complete bike themselves tomorrow then i'd probably go and grab one.
Of course they make my zeb better! I just put the rc2 damper in my 2021 fork. I have the select plus shock,, might have to upgrade to the new 2023 s.d. ultimate next year.
The podium fork Brandon Semenuk,Nicholi Rogatkin and Emil Johansson,Erik Fedko etc. use it wish it gets updated maybe lighter or stiffer or just better overall
Great video, I really like this lineup but the variation in models can be confusing for us noobs to navigate! After feeling some heavy flexing on my rct3 pike yesterday I think the added stiffness would be worth the upgrade plus... plus wanting to stay at 150mm!
Id ride my yari ultimate and save money. Recession is coming at the nearest city near you!. There's already food shortages in my area. I'm sure people are noticing it too, high gas price, high food prices, and shortages on some necessities.
Would be interesting to compare the weight of a 170mm lyrik past Gen to a 170mm 2023 Zeb since 170mm travel is not an option on 35mm stanchion anymore. Really good in depth review by the way, good job.
