    Thanks Dennis, as always good honest review, given that issue with high ISO, I will stick with the sony gears for now even though, I really want the lightweight of the M43 system , but giving up performance for weight is a tough one. Cheers my friend! 🤟

      Thank you Quan! :) It does give good results but not like the gear you have :) i just decided it was "good enough" for me ATM and sold all the Sony gear :) :)

    Hi Dennis, fabulous pics. I shoot wildlife now, but really want to practice sports at some local football clubs. I'm intrigued by what tripod and head you use. Looks perfect for what I would need for my OM-1 and 100-400

      Thank you :) i use this set: uk.benroeu.com/benro-aero6-pro-travel-video-tripod-carbon-fiber its not the best i have used but for light gear like OM systems it works fine but for heavy gear its not good!

    Thanks Dennis. A lovely set with an honest review. Out of curiosity what settings did you use? I presume you were using auto ISO but the rest of setting would be most helpful.

    I shoot sports with the OM-1 and find that TR is not good, so I use just the AF. You have done well.

    How did the CAF with tracking at -2 work overall? I have heard that the tracking autofocus feature should rarely be used on Olympus cameras. Did you have to override the tracking focus with manual focus quite often?
    Based on what I have heard regarding the Olympus CAF + tracking algorithm, you seem to have come out with some better than expected results!
    Thanks for another informative camera challenge video.

      I picked out the players in between the others and fired some shoots, released, refocussed and shoot again :) if i just had the AF on all the time it jumped to other players to easy .. :) so it can be done but its not easy like it is with the FF top brands ;)

    I shoot full frame, mostly with a 500mm f4, but at terribly lit grounds. Even in full sunlight I rarely go above 1/1600 though, and have even started shooting down as low as 1/500 for night games. The percentage of keepers is still OK, but far from perfect. If you shot a little slower the ISO will come down and it should still freeze the action. Obviously the DOF is different with mine, but this looks like a pretty good setup for local sports.

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment cadmus777 :) i shoot in different shutter speeds to push the camera to see how the files looked with different ISO values .. but yes you are right, if it was a payed job or under normal conditions i would also go lower in shutter speed

    Hi Dennis, thanks for the great review, you have a new sub.
    I have just started taking some photos of my daughter play football with my OMD EM1 Mark iii and the 40-150 f2.8 pro (I have gear envy over your set up). I noticed that you are using C-AF + Tracking. I have been using C-AF and never thought about tracking. What is your logic for/ the benefits of adding the Tracking? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am very new to this.

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you 😀 With tracking i put the AF area on the player i want and hold on with TR .. on the A1 the AF area and face tracking was really sticky to the one i picked out. OM-1 is more inconsitent with face/eye tracking and jump of the target to other players. So i just use tracking with a middle spot, pick out my tarket and shoot and refocus if needed 📷👍🏻

    hi Dennis
    overall, I think that the OM-1, given its small censor, performs very well here. That also applies to the man behind the camera 👍

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much :) and yes it is a great system, not the best but the lightest and most versatile in my opinion! and still delivers great results

      The Olympus OM-1 performs well in full daylight, but things clearly don't go as well in cloudy and rainy weather, so you're better off with a full-frame camera. that said the Olympus OM-1 is a Nice weather camera. The build quality of both the camera and the pro lenses is really very good. The problem is the small censor of the OM-1

    Can I ask why you have face reg off?

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The face reg AF is all over the place when more players are in the frame 😁 i think C-AF+TR are better. Grabbing the player with a small to medium AF area and use the tracking in small "burst" grab, shoot, grap, shoot and so on.

  • @janwedek

    The OM-1 is really missing a proper human detection mode. Compared to subject detection, the face/eye is just not very good

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      On my 12-40mm it works great but as soon you use longer telephoto lenses it seem to have some trouble sometimes to hold on to both people and other subjects .. especially in like sports like in this episode when a player runs in between you and the player you are locked on to AF jump to the wrong subject .. here etc. Sony as i have used just stays on the one you picked out .. i dont know if it is a limitation because of the smaller sensor it is some steps behind Sony, Canon and Nikon

      Composition is one of the most basic elements of photography. After all, most of us define ourselves as photographers and not as croppers! :) The idea of a “Crop-Sensor” is fanciful.

    The problem is the lens F4.5 is just to slow, unless you have alot better light. You need to be shooting at F2.8 or F3.2 max for best results. P.s a tripod will slow you down if you need a surport then use a monopod.

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
