There are various models that have interchangeable parts. The easiest way to find out is to go to MysticParts .com and look up a reel that you are working on and they will show you when you add parts which reels they are compatible with. Thanks for watching!

What does the St#1, St#2, and St#3 mean in description of these reels. I’ve been seeing this on some for sale. Is there a way to tell what year a reel was made. Are certain color handles a way to tell if it was an earlier model or later?

Not sure about the St#1,2 and 3. The Surfmasters only came with black side plates. The early generation Squidders came with black side plates but eventually they changed them to a darker burgundy red color and eventually a slightly brighter red. Both Surfmasters and Squidders that have plastic spools or chromed spools more than likely will be older. Over time Penn changed over to using light weight aluminum spools for these models. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

I take it the 140 squidder is the the best for long casts? I'm looking for vintage Penn, since I have the 9 and the 309 I got from my grandfather. Now, I looking for long cast surf reel to pair up with a long rod. Your thoughts. Thanks for the vid.

Yes, the Squidder 140 is a good model for long casting. That was it's primary purpose when it was in production. The Surfmaster 200 and Beachmaster 155 are also solid options. Thanks for watching!

The Penn Squidder 140 was introduced in 1939 with Air Brake Fins which at the time was a new technology. Somewhere in the early 1950's I believe is when Penn offered a spool with out the air brake fins. It was considered to be another option just like getting a metal spool over a plastic one. Thanks for watching!
