FYI Nico does not sing Sunday Morning. It's sung by Lou Reed, who is trying to sound like a girl. He was trying to prove they didn't need Nico in the band.

@@vinylrichie007 i totally agree with you. Although in the hifi scene i like those discussions because with the money i have (as a student) i want to get the best for my money. I get it that some people collect vinyl like historic products, but i really cannot listen to debates why this pressing with that specific label and this or that written in the deadwax is several times more worth having than the recent reissue. In the end records were and are produced to have a medium with music on it that you can play and listen to. We should care more about the music then the pressing, you know what i mean? The greatest ever debut album by a solo artist, Laura Nyro's 'More Than a New Discovery', spawning 4 major hits including And When I Die, Wedding Bell Blues, Stoney End and Blowin' Away. The album is honoured in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Nyro wrote the songs aged 16, recorded it when she was 18. A genius level singer/songwriter. She performed at Monterey Pop aged 19, in between The Byrds and Jefferson Airplane. Her 1968 and 1969 albums are mindblowing - songwriting so far ahead of the game.

Bro, you are frigg'n Hilarious! :D BTW, FWIW, I'm not usually a mono guy and especially not for the Psychedelic era. Even though 'Audiophiles' claim that for example the mono version of Axis, Bold as Love is SO much better, sorry, I just love all the neat channel to channel trippy stuff on the stereo version, and the same with Revolver. BUT... I guess the original mono master for Disraeli Gears was **SO** much better than the stereo one, that the recent Abbey Road 1/2 speed mono remaster done by Miles Showell is actually pretty dang good! It is the only real mono album I have out of about 2400 vinyl albums, so I thought I'd throw that out there.

The VCs dieing is it? I wouldn't know I do my own thing. I don't come out of my VC cave that often Pat... 67 was an incredible year for music. Van Morrison has my fav Van song on his 1967 album Blowin' Your Mind, TB Sheets the songs called. Astral weeks was in 67 too, that one's a MONSTER. In 1967 kids got introduced to the Blues with Albert Kings Born Under A Bad Sign, that would be in there for me. Electric music for The Mind by Country Joe and Days of Future passed were in 67 too. Music for your head. Groovin' by The Young Rascals is a fav album of mine from 67. I can't quibble with your choices except maybe the Velvet Underground album. I'm not a Nico fan... In 67 R&B was dead, bubblegum shit was on the wane and goody two shoes pop singles were getting replaced by some hard core rock. The AM radio station directors weren't afraid to play it anymore. We didn't have a FM rock station until 69.... I'll tell you a funny story about that Hendrix are you experienced album. In 1967 when that album came out we chopped up an ounce of Speed on it with a razor blade. Speed had lots of crystals in it back then. The Purple dye came off the album and made the speed a purpley mauve color. We hit it or sold it anyhow. LOL.. I ran into a guy at my Bar 8 or 9 years ago and somehow the conversation ended up about the great drugs of the 60s. The dude mentioned one time doing the best speed in his life and the color of it was purple. LOL... Yep he bought that speed off of us some 50 years ago. We had quite the laugh when I told him why the speed was purple... LOL.. Come to think of it it might of been in 68 that purple speed not 67. I wasn't hitting in 67, I was in 68... yeah the summer of Love 1967. It was a very good year let me tell you. There was a different vibe going on. It didn't last long though. Charly Manson and Altamont killed that in 69, we lost our innocence....

wonderful choice and i agree with all but one,now this is only my opinion but the world of rock in 1967 embraced all these records all were number ones ,except one, aretha franklin,in 67 the music scene was busting wide open and if you were young and hip and white you listened to rock and psych,i never bought or listened to , and neither did anyone else i knew listen to aretha's music,it was not played on cool underground stations,it just wasn't, now in the decades since we realize what a mistake that was, musicians listened to her and otis redding, but the rock world of white teens did not if you doubt me go watch the film on woodstock and see how many people of color make up the audience, how many african american bands played there. so the impact arthea had on music in 67 was limited.i would have added moody blues days of future past instead ,because it like the doors , hendrix, velvet underground, cream and beatles changed and influenced rock for at least the next few years till around 71, my favorite was traffic's first in all its forms.
,i simply loved that record,as much today as in 67.also all those bands played around multiple times live in LA,except the beatles of course.this was a great list and yes i still don,t own that aretha album haha but after your review i,ll look for it, and im not saying she was not worthy, clearly she was ,but in 67,the doors first was a debut like no other ,it was played everywhere, and the long version of light my fire is still powerful.i loved 1967,you just tapped on it but it was a giant year,i will say one thing ,thinking back a lot of blues bands played on bills, black blues bands, so maybe im all screwed up in my history of those years,i had a job at a factory and one night my black co worker was singing mo town so i started singing cream ,ect he was teasing me and i said i listen to black music, jimi hendrix ,well he about fell off his forklift laughing so hard ,he shouted hes not black , man --hahaha thanks cant wait for 1968 another year that may be as good or better than 67. also i would have added DONOVAN, (my opinion). Because of the concept of the album they insisted it be released in the same version worldwide at the same time. I was going to do 1966 but it was to close to your list. I think I'll do this years, a few different ones on my list.

I think there will be more variety in our lists in the 70's.

    Two thoughts:
-elegance is simplicity and vice versa; and
-Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields are pretty much outtake singles from Sgt. Pepper. As gret as the LP is, imagine it with those songs too. That would make it untouchable as the greatest album ever

Richie. Good job and some very great music. And you have the guts to admit you didn't get into the Velvet's Banana yet but you were very young so understandable. I guess I have to admit I don't like Aretha Franklin's vocals or songs much. The albums from 1967 I would add are "Buffalo Springfield Again" and Art Lee's Love "Forever Changes". I agree that Jimi's Axis Bold i great. On England's Experience, what did the heck could they substitute for Purple Haze or the Wind Cries Mary.

I love Aretha’s vocals on her late 60’s albums. By the early 70’s she began to lose me. Too much hootin’ and hollerin’. To be honest not many got into the Velvet Underground in the 60’s. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

@@vinylrichie007 I suppose there are few if any artists I like purely for their vocals as it has to come with the overall sound I like. Many songs by the Velvets I don't like if too experimental or raw but Sunday Morning and There She Goes Again I immediately liked.

Mr Fantasy is a great album. Don’t lick the stamps Disraeli Gears another top shelf album. The song you spelled out I use to try to pronounce it. (Swab-ler). You are right about Are You Experienced. It’s so FN awesome. You showed 10 killers.

I wish I had some stamps to lick. Cream and Jimi Hendrix were so hard and heavy.

Every album a great choice. Are You Experienced blew my head off at the time and cemented my transition to hippiedom. I still remember the first time I heard it in a little coffeehouse in upstate NY.
It occurred to me recently, when I’m streaming music randomly, that I don’t fast forward through most any song by the Doors. They MAYBE made 2 bad songs in their career with Morrison. Unlike you, I am a fan of The End. Took me somewhere, lol.

I think the Doors debut is better than Strange Days but I like When The Music’s Over morel than The End. Once Axis Bold As Love came out I was hooked.
