I lived in Hua Hin for 11 months in 2021/22 and have to say that the city was perfect for me to survive the pandemic.
It is quieter in Hua Hin than in Pattaya and the city is more than just a beach. There are hundreds of gated communities and senior residences in the hinterland on the other side of the mountain.
But from there it's a 10-15 minute drive down to the city.
There are two large shopping malls and also a supermarket for imported food.
There are also enough hospitals, including a Bangkok Hospital, but that's not cheap :)
On the beach you often feel undisturbed; it is not as overcrowded as in the south of Thailand. It's a good thing that the supposedly "best" beaches are in the south. Then the tourists can step on each other's toes and fight over the deck chairs :)
The nightlife is there and it feels like there are more bars than tourists, I keep wondering how they can all survive.
In terms of rent, Hua Hin is cheaper than Pattaya. Massages etc are more expensive, more on a Bangkok level. Many restaurants are a little more expensive but still cheap for many of us.
There are also two immigration contact points. As I said, up behind the mountain, that's where the big immigration is. But for the past two years I think there has been an immigration branch in the basement of the Blue Port Shopping Mall.
In contrast to Pattaya Immigration, which is more of a "war zone" and extremely overcrowded, there are hardly any waiting times in Hua Hin.
You can easily take the bus from Hua Hin to Pattaya, twice a day. Of course you can also take the train. Now also significantly faster because the route from Bangkok to Hua Hin has already been completed.
There used to be a fast ferry at the pier at Khao Takiab. There the boats went from Hua Hin to Pattaya but the provider did not survive the pandemic and stopped the service.
Hua Hin also has an airport but I don't know which routes you can fly from there other than Chiang Mai. I have already flown the route from Hua Hin.
In the south of Hua Hin, Pranburi should also be mentioned. Pranburi has something that Hua Hin doesn't have, a pormenade. So a very, very long road along the beach. You can also cycle there because there are cycle paths. As mentioned, the beach at Pranburi is very spacious and there are still a lot of building sites available. There are very nice and expensive hotels there and it is much quieter than in Hua Hin.
Ohh and before I forget it, there are many high class greens (golf clubs) in Hua Hin too.
There is also a small zoo und a waterpark in Hua Hin near Holiday Inn Hotel.
You can enter the rooftop-bar of Holiday Inn too. Its a great view.

Hua Hin has been Bangkokian backyard for 100 years, the former king residence, peaceful, safe, great street food, close to several hidden tourist places only known to locals.

Where’s all the tourists? It sort of reminds me of how bare the beaches were when you were visiting Dominican Republic, you were in 4/5 Star Hotel and now you’re staying at a $14/night hotel? This place doesn’t look appealing to me, IMHO. I’d rather stay at Hilton and be more comfortable in an excellent hotel. 7pm is a little early for people to go to the bars in Thailand, even in Bangkok they all go out later at night, that’s probably why there was no people watching for you.

    • @mino5931

Normaly there are not many tourists in Hua Hin. Its normal that you see many "empty" bars. There are also many more "bar areas" than Soi Bintabaht / Hilton.
You can go to Soi 80, Soi 88, Soi 94, Soi 112. There are some "bar hubs" too, they call them "Wonderland" and I dont know how many Wonderlands we have now, 2,3,4 ?

The thing that doesn't impress me about Thailand, and makes me not want to go there is the constant bombardment on tourists from the local peddlers. Sorry, but this is not attractive. You don't find that in Japan.
Edit - Also, you gotta fix that low light jitter.

    • @mino5931
      @mino5931 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

I've recently been to Taiwan (very good) and Japan (rather). I can't understand what people like about Japan. The only interesting thing for me was/is Hanami, the cherry blossom festival. Mount Fuji is also great if you want to get up in the morning, in the middle of the night, and go on a group hike to the summit to see the sunrise.
Since the economy has been weakening, traders in Japan have been “harassed” more often or people try to lure you into bars.
I think I'll only come back when things get better in Japan and in some districts you feel like you're a street prostitute in Bangkok.
Dozens of women are standing around everywhere because they are engaged in prostitution out of financial need.
