IMPACT 1 The Braes of Badenoch

- Held every year for the last twenty or so years a 'pre-worlds concert' has promoted in Glasgow by the Glasgow Skye Association. It has become probably the most prestigious pipe band concert event in the world and many of the world's top pipe bands have featured in the series.
This year it was Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Peter Parkes MBE presenting its 'IMPACT' concert. The band was in cracking form and played a rich and varied programme of music to a capacity audience. A few days later the band went on to win the Grade One World Pipe Band Championship.
It was a great privilege (and a challenge) to be asked to video the concert with a view to sharing a series of video extracts from the concert. This is the first of those videos which will lead up to the releasing of the double CD of the concert. Fittingly, it is of the same March, Strathspey and Reel set which features in the previous video on this channel of the band winning the Worlds Grade One.

This is my own soundtrack recorded using two omnidirectional microphones as a spaced pair on the front of the stage.
The whole thing just bounces and flows....truly brilliant. These guys are so relaxed and you can her it in the tunes....quite possibly one of the best MSRs I've ever heard.
Definitely my favourite MSR to play!
What a beautiful recording.It has been a while since i have heard an indoor recording of this quality, pipes ,drums, drones, bass and tenors all combining to give a Rolls -Royce listening experience. In my humble opinion the bass drummer is magic.
