For a small time hobby beekeeper with a very basic filtering system this was really interesting. All I have is a stainless steel double screen filter, coarse and fine, and I don't even know what micron either of them are so I am sure I could perfect my filtering and get a cleaner final honey less prone to crystallising. I will look forward to the next video 😀
Great question. I don’t think any of the main manufacturers would build a bad one. Personally I’d go with either Thomas, lega or Carl Fritz (swienty sells them). I can price any of them up as we are agents. Paradise honey would make a good one too I would have thought. I suppose it’s down to personal preference really. If it’s a leading brand it will be a good one.
Hi gruff, just checked google for raw honey, your honey came up on the first search as unpasteurised RAW honey, but once I clicked on link, the word raw isn’t mentioned, I know about the terrible law that prevents us beekeepers from using the word raw, have you managed to find a bit of a loophole?!? Great videos as always👍
Unfortunately no, I’d love to put it on the label. Trading standard informed us years ago to remove it. Although the public still look for the word raw. Big shame.
Hi 👋🏼 So does using low heat not kill all the raw goodness?, I like unpasteurised/ raw honey for the health benefits is there a certain temp you can use to make filtering easier without destroying that goodness, also as a hobby beekeeper can I put raw on my labels, to sell outside my house, im autistic and just trying to get info clear in my head, also gruff how and what do you use to package your cut comb please, many thanks
Hi, High heat would certainly damage honey. Low heat no. You think on a hot day what temperature the top of the hives can reach on a 30+ degrees day. It would get pretty hot in the hive. This does not damage the honey. Unfortunately you can’t use the word raw at all. Even for cut comb. It’s a shame. I use plastic containers from maismore for our cutcomb 😊
Great video thank you for explaining as saw one of these at Abelo and didn’t quite understand how it worked . Looking forward to the Apimelter and your candle making vid soon. Could I ask about your super clean walls ? Have you video how to convert a barn into a honey room so it can be as clean as yours ? If budget won’t stretch to a honey sump or Apimelter , could I just have a heated coil like in your video and a series of those 200ym filters in buckets ?🪣
You could but you would need to start with a 1000, then 320 and finally 200 otherwise it would block instantly. When I get the new honey house sorted il do a video on the construction 😊
What do you do with melted out honey? I was considering labelling it as cooking honey and flogging it because obviously after going through the melter the flavour changes and the enzymes break down.
If it is hawthorn honey it will be solid in no time. It is strange that I never used to have a market for this honey and fed it back, but nowadays people are demanding it.
You are probably correct but I have one customer who insists on semi sugar honey who buys a kilo every month or so, she has a skin condition on her face and swears by the therapeutic properties of the semi manuka honey that she liberally spreads on her face, I don't mind a sale is still a sale, and I don't care particularly what they do with it lol. @@gwenyngruffydd

Thanks Colin
Informative video there 👍
Thank you ☺️
Thanks I’ll
Have a look. 👍
What Water heated sump would you recommend, and do you sell them?
Thanks.

which water based sump are you thinking off?
A Thomas one I think
Uncapping method has a large effect on wax generation and filtering. Wondering how much honey you have run to get the wax currently in the system.
Very true. Wax is worth more than honey though 😊

Hi. Do you sell this filtration system. I cant find it on your website. Before I google it just wanted to ask. Lots of time till I extract next time.
Not this specific one. But we can supply anything from swienty, lega or Thomas. The 3 of them makes really good kit.

Not necessarily, all depends on your melter.
I sell mine and it goes very fast. But I jar and label in a different way. Sell at same price.

It’s nice to have a different flavour, people say honey from trees have more minerals too due to the deep root system
