Tips for changing a hoof bandage - Secret got hurt - Equine Care

Secret is a Thoroughbred mare that managed to get a piece of wood stuck in her hoof. I'm not sure how, but she ended up needing the emergency clinic to remove it. Here's some tips for changing a hoof bandage.

Love the duct tape strips vs continuous wrap. I never thought about that affecting the expansion of the hoof. She did a super job standing still for that whole thing! What a good girl.

Good morning. Thanks for the weather and Secret update. (First thought, for outdoor protection, what about those clamp-on booties, used as substitutes for shoes?) Liked the thoughtfulness behind your bandage removal technique.( On a cow, one hoof trimmer said they can be on soft ground, collect odd bits and be o.k. but when they come in on a hard surface, as to a concrete floor in a barn, then is when the rocks, nail bits, etc. can get jammed in hard.) With her leg cocked, she obviously was calm and not worried as you worked. That is quite a production. You are always progressing on projects. Enjoyed your stall additions.
